Lynda Tabuya may have survived losing her ministerial position over her drug-fuelled sex romp with Aseri Radrodro because she has the Prime Minister over a barrel but she has become a vexing problem in diplomatic circles.
The penalty for marijuana use in China ranges from 15 days in prison to a bullet in the back of the head, depending on the amount involved. So coupled with the sordid details of what happened in Room 233 of the Windsor Hotel in Melbourne last August, you can imagine the consternation behind the scenes at the Chinese Embassy in Suva at the prospect of Lynda Tabuya’s presence in the official photographs for the planning of the 50th anniversary celebrations of diplomatic ties with Fiji.
The Chinese Ambassador, Zhou Jian, cannot exclude her because the Minister for Bonking and Weed is a Fijian government minister. Oh dear, oh dear. But what does it do for China’s reputation to have the official representative of the Chinese government and the Chinese Communist Party appearing with someone found by her own party in Fiji- the People’s Alliance – to be a drug user and stripped of the deputy leadership of the PAP?
The Chinese can control what is in their own media so Zhou Jian doesn’t have the same problem as representatives of the democracies in Suva in being photographed with Lynda Tabuya. But still. With drug use at record levels in Fiji’s schools, how can the Fijian Minister for Children remain in her position when she boasted of smoking “weed” and her own party has found the allegations against her proven? And how can the Fijian government seriously expect the representatives of other countries, and especially those who take a hard line on drug use, to continue to have anything to do with her? Oh dear, oh dear. Or 哦亲爱的, 哦亲爱的, as the Chinese would say.
Of course, the Chinese are used to overcoming diplomatic hurdles so here’s what happened at the official launch of the anniversary celebrations. Lynda Tabuya was there because no-one can stop her while she remains Minister for Women and Children. But in the story about the function that appears in today’s “Beijing Sun” – the slavishly pro-Chinese Fiji Sun – she is excluded from the main photograph altogether and appears in a secondary photo looking uncharacteristically awkward and out of place.
Had someone just had a word in her ear asking/telling her to take a lower profile? Or did she realise herself that it might be better for everyone if she was absent from the main photo to avoid embarrassing the others in the picture – not only the representative of the People’s Republic of China but someone even more important in local terms – the Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa?
Did Ro Teimumu tell “Madam” to stay out of the photo to protect her own reputation? We’ll probably never know. But one thing must be clear to anyone with half a brain and a fraction of appreciation for the importance of Fiji’s ties with the rest of the world. You simply cannot put forward a drug user and adulteress to represent the nation and embarrass the representatives of other countries, along with our own people, and especially at a time when the drug threat to Fiji’s young people has never been so acute.
Lynda Tabuya must go and go now. And everyone knows it except the besotted Prime Minister.
哦亲爱的, 哦亲爱的 (Oh dear, Oh dear)

…Absent from the main picture. Did Ro Teimumu Kepa (front row, second from left) tell her to make herself scarce?

Today’s Fiji Sun front page. A “classroom crisis” with drug use in the nation’s schools while the “weed”-smoking Minister for Children is on the diplomatic circuit. Something’s gotta give.

But the Prime Minister is still in Lynda Tabuya’s thrall.

He’s just a man, after all.

“A problem for us” but not for the comely Minister for Bonking and Weed.

But what about a politician involved with drugs as Minister for Children? No problem.

是的哦亲爱的。困境!
(Translation) “Yes, darling. Dilemma!”
It is a national disgrace that Lynda Tabuya is still in office. She should be publicly denounced and disgraced for her unmoral behavior and her drug use. Why is she allowed to use weed and not be put in jail like any other person would be? This government is absolutely corrupt and an embarrassment and disgrace!
I agree, however the amount of people using marijuana -there’s not enough space in the prison system for them. In the 80’s it was around in Fiji but not common (as I saw-never tried it. Never will. My job required constant random drug testing anyway). Our jails are full and with politicians arriving too……we need another jail. In the west. Or between Ba and Rakiraki. Actually we need at least two new prisons.
My opinion only.
When she won the election, she was compared to former NZ PM as the Jacinda Ardern of Fiji.
Would have been prime minister material in future.
Now, after her brutal sex and weed, she should bow her head in shame and go back to her village in exile.
Can’t put her in Prison either. She will be hot cake there.
Faar doh koro auntie.
Remember in parliament last year
“Where’s the proof ”
Proof is herself
Sa dina
That’s karma at its best
I doubt Lynda has half the brain to realize she needs to exclude herself from the photo. She continues to embarrass both herself and Fiji on a national and international level.
It could have been Ro Teimumu to give her the wisdom or could have been someone from the Chinese Embassy.
The only thing we see these days is government ministers on a repetition saying there’s a drug problem. But what is the government doing about it?
The best thing would have been to clean its house first, make an example of the minister for drug use and sex scandal. Sack her and yes prosecute her.
When a bad example or precedent is set, it’s set for the whole country. This coalition has set many bad examples and I don’t think there’s any coming back from the darkness that shrouds Fiji now.
It is clear from the photo that the diplomatic community has decided Lynda is a liability and is to be avoided or not given recognition. I wonder when the PM will wake up! The Chinese have and I suspect other diplomats have also.
She will become a ‘not to be invited’ person.
Drug problem was there from past many years now
Previous government allowed this to happen by rubbing shoulders with drug king pins
They allowed drug to flourish in domestic market and was catching small time pushers to show they are in action
Big sharks were free and were swimming in shallow waters without being noticed but those that were connected knew the sharks are there
Even a Cocain dealer was mixing around with former president and business people at Defense club until he and his son were caught by NZ police
This government now trying to dig into things but is too late
Problem has gone past breaking point
Now the son of business tycoon is caught
Also drug is passing down the line
If dad was using than ofcourse next generation will
Karma is a bitch
God help Fiji
That’s how drug dealers camouflage themselves
They mix with prominent people
They eat curry and drink whiskey together
Two big dealers were caught by NZ police and both were same kind
One was a pharmacy king (drug) and other was a wholesaler
Ask the neighbors of Caubati and they will tell you that a private club was operating there, until cocain was found in the same house
People of Fiji needs to fight this pandemic together and hard
Future of our children lies with all of us
Now or Never
Chotto matte (Japanese) ….chodo matte (Fiji)
