So Magistrate Yogesh Prasad (any relation?) denies Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum permission to travel to Singapore for further medical treatment.
Oh well. At least I get to keep my own kidney in my rash bet that if he was allowed to leave, the ousted AG would return. (see previous stories).
The learned Magistrate disagrees.
Slacker says
That’s why Indians are migrating out of Fiji forever.
Vili Wadali says
Stop being a fool.
Indians, like all other races, migrate for greener pastures.
Slacker says
In the case for Fiji, Indians migrate out of the country because of racism against them from native Fijians.
Vili Wadali says
What abour racism against indigenous Fijians by ASK and his kai India cohorts during the 16 year reign of Fiji First? Bill 17…etc. Batao!
Ratu Imperial Vulagi. says
Vili Wadali, do you care to ‘batao’ where/what all this “racism” against indigenous Fijians during 16years of democratically elected “reign” of government was? Some detail please, or dare I say it, batao !
Come to think of it, I for one did not see protest after protest in the streets against racism or for that matter the world or the UN condemning Fiji and isolating it like they did the illegal first Rabuka government. In fact, for once I saw a very united Fiji, very much what Ratu Mara wanted , Fiji what the world should be. Remember?
Vili, don’t fart if you can’t handle the smell.

Correct indeed! The pastures are especially greener when, amongst other things, you get equal rights and equal citizenry! Thankfully there are no R Mugabe’s, S Butadroka’s or the likes of Fiji’s current ethno nationalists in leadership in the UK, Aust, NZ, Canada, USA ie nations with a Westminster style based or Western democratic countries.
These are the types of countries immigrants flock to for residency …not to Mother Russia or China or North Korea for good reason, and some Fiji anti-western fruitcakes praise and adore these latter type of countries!
Dejected says
Indians migrate to greener pastures, earn, buy their land, safe from greedy landowners.
ITaukei migrate to go pluck fruits or wipe bums in the carer industry. And rent.
Go figure!
Rajendra says
Fiji indian population has declined to 13%. Fact is more are migrating everyday. I taukei leadership are falling apart. I think ffp should join hand and call for vote of no confidence in rabuka I’ll conceived Gov’t.
Everything everyday is falling apart. The economy is on the verge of collapsing and baiman will f**k the economy like Nigerian.
The prime minister is getting old like old rodden rat about to kick the bucket. Judiciary with corrupted magistrates and judges taking directive from justices minister rather been neutral.
People need to wake up and kick this govt out.
Moce mada Fijian.
Vili Wadali says
The learned magistrates decision was a fair one. Lets leave it at that.

The ref is only fair when your team wins, whether it wins fairly or by other means that doesn’t matter to you. In another game with the same ref if your team loses you will abuse the ref and call him/her anything but fair!
Sadly I doubt if you are learned enough to comprehend this critic.

No line up of his supporters surrounding him as he walks to his vehicle, how the mighty have fallen. A very bleak future ahead for him if he does get convicted. A lesson to all , in life always be humble , caring and honest as you never know what’s around the corner. Ethics and honesty must always be the guiding principles in life.
Even though I never agreed with him, I do feel sorry for him especially his young family.
Meme says
How much humbleness does Rabuka show then with his immunity pin? Shame shame shame.
Quite Contrary says
Re your final sentence ” Never agreed with him”…
This is a very profound telling statement.
This represents the Contrarian stance of Rajiv and unfortunately most of the other detractors of the FF govt. Even good policies were disliked, challenged – opposed – just because these people never agreed with the personalities in FF rather than the merits of the policies or vision.
So such contrarians who never got behind in support of the previous govt in nation building but generally obsessed with personal battles, racist or religious prejudices…these people helped sink the progress of the nation. By having a constitutional dislike of everything from Fiji First, and dare I say just for the sake of disagreeing or as Rajiv puts it – by never agreeing with anything from the other side.
In comparison those voters who had previously not agreed in principle with Rabuka , because of his past actions, did give him a chance and voted for him on the merits of what he was offering in the lead up to the 2022 election. That trust is now found to have been misplaced. However those who voted for Rabuka, especially Indians who had been the brunt of Rabuka’s ethonationalism previously, demonstrate they are not Rajiv, that they did consider Rabuka’s election offering on merit and did not just disagree with him for the sake and desire to never agree with him. Unlike the people like Rajiv… who helped put the nation on the reef when the previous years post Speight and his anarchy could have been a longer lasting prosperous Fiji, the Star of the Pacific.
John says
Will not everyone will line up to suck up to ASK the way you do to Dick. Aka naidoo
Fjord Sailor says
The aim is to either kill him before he ends up in Sing Sing or get him into prison and deny him the right to timely medical services so he’s knocked out.
Either way, this government and its heavily racjally biased and prejudiced legal system are grubs if they’re denying a bloke medical treatment.
No big secret the docs in Fiji don’t have the skills or knowledge around modern medicine to treat current diseases. In their world, everyone can be treated by Panadol or just told to drink hot lemon juice.
Doctor Wo says
Mr Sailor
Doctors are good as any other doctors you find around the world
Problem is if you only have Parecitomol and Antibiotics, then what else you can prescribe
Doctors work 12 to 15 hours in government hospitals and get 8 hours of pay that is the amount a hospital cleaner gets in overseas
Under paid medical staff
Many of the medical professionals has migrated and many will go
These professionals are highly regarded in hospitals around the world
Blame the government and successive ones for neglect mate
Never Give Up says
So now the magistrate is a qualified doctor who can dictate how important someone’s medical treatment is or not.
He must have the same qualifications as Biman Prasad.
No Hope says
Despite what people say about him he did a lot for the progress of Fiji and had a strategic mindset. During his time investor confidence was high. Economy is now in shambles, investor confidence bleak, daylight thuggery ongoing by judiciary and governments, high racism, drug issues, high crime rates, etc etc.
The iTaukei people are so much blinded by hatred for this guy that they choose to discount all the wrong doings by this government and kookoo of a prime minister, his Minister of weed and bonking. President is globe trotting and Commander is in hibernation mode.
The best and brightest are getting away as fast as they can coz this coalition government is like a sinking ship. Those in power are milking left, right and Center. Baiman will go down in history as rhe biggest bakewa of all times.
What sad times we’re in.

Rabuka is clever
What other things are happening is beyond his control
Sorry if I may offend anyone
But that’s my analysis
Corrupt to the core says
ASK was around in government for 16 years. He cared for the poor mostly.
Rabuka has been around for 37 years. List me one thing that Rabuka has done for the poor apart from the coup immunity status he carries.
We have a lot of unpacking to do in this country. That includes what leadership is worth having and letting go.
Compromised law says
Is the magistrate same as Puamau who deliberated on Bainimarama and in that case we know how this is all going in Fiji lala law land.
Racism says
How about magistrate puamau’s decision vs magistrate yogesh’s
I have one observation and I am not being racist but I state my darring observation.
Puamau of itaukie decent tried favoring Bai twice.
On the other hand Yogesh of indofijian decent put the bullet into another indofijian. If I have the money, I look for best doctor I can hire in a best hospital.
My observation is that with itaukie, there is unity in everything. They safeguard and defend each other even though one is wrong and cheated his/her way up but with indo Fijians, they ready to bite and kill each other. If one wrong, judgement of guilty passed on fellow indofijian, rest of the indofijan starts celebration as well as laughing ridiculing, name calling etc. There is no unity and wrong is never defended by indofijian thus no unity but isolation rules in indofijian.
I wish to hear others view on this. Positive contribution not derogatory contribution. Researching on psychological aspect of thinking from indo Fijian and itaukie perspective. Whether ideas converge or diverge.
Wtaf says
I have more respect for an ethical Indian or anyone than an i-taukei cheating and safeguarding each other to stay in power. Your answer is in your own statement. Shite. Just shite. Grow up.

Racism: Don’t ” favour ” or judge against just because of race or ethnicity, province, same village, south indian vs north indian, Bau vs Rewa, went to same school or competitor school alumni etc.
Retarded thinking but yes these archaic thinking exists.
Ashamed says
To Racism: If the Commonwealth or Olympic games were to be held in Suva, the nation would be an international embarrassment. Not for a low medal winning count.
It would be because in the greatest of Fijian traits as described above by Racism, the Indian spectators would clap and cheer the Indians, the Fijians would cheer and clap for the itaukei or other Melanesians / Africans only.
The rest of the non Fijian / non Indian athletes from around the would be on their own.
Contrast this to the previous Commonwealth Games in the UK or the Olympics – the Brits as the host nation and the global audience cheer on athletes of any country that need encouragement orvkack support, especially of smaller countries. Not so in Fiji – we are not mature enough or have not overcome an inferiority complex to be big enough to be gracious or complementary. Skin, caste and tribalism is the primary determination of allegiance.
just an observer says
So what would you say of Salesi Temo sentencing Bai to prison?
Beemar says
Magistrate read right through his bullshit. The fake Dr’s signature, no monthly medical check-ups, a Dr’s note from a GP? (come on), judge even got an expert opinion from the Chief Surgeon.
Yeaa….nahhh… Navua Hospital for you, pal. You’re not fooling the learned magistrate, Yogesh Prasad. (Biman’s cousin brother?)
Pundit Ji says
When ASK took control over Fiji, and with what was happening in last 16 years during his rule, everyone had one discussion around the grog tanoa
“if a new government will come into power this fallla will go to prison with his puppet ”
Whoever would have formed the new government, this would have been the most likely scenario of what is happening today
He was so powerful with military backing and Qiliho as PC
Almost like a private security who were all listening to one man
Those that read “Things Fall Apart “by Chinua Achibe will have a clear picture about dirty politics
Charlie Charters says
There is a delicious irony of course that it was your pal Christopher Pryde’s woeful decision to prosecute the late Hank Arts and the Fiji Times for alleged sedition, and then object to one bail variance after another that Arts submitted, that provided much of the case law the magistrate quoted in denying ASK his own bail variance to travel overseas for medical attention. Martin Luther King will have been observing the arc of the Moral Universe finally bending towards Justice in the Arts > ASK > Pryde case with satisfaction.
Of course, this was a timely reminder of what poor judgement Pryde showed again and again and again in his decision to prosecute or not prosecute. Especially Pryde getting out repeatedly the old Sedition hammer to go against regime enemies or random inconvenient voices of dissent.
Wadan Narsey – who you are fond of quoting when he attacks this Govt – observed in a 2018 article: ‘Christopher Pryde will be remembered in Fiji’s history as yet another expatriate “Flotsam and Jetsam” who drifted into Fiji waters, eagerly serving and benefiting from illegal military coups and governments with little respect for basic human rights or freedoms, while making grand heroic pronouncements.
‘Sadly, Fiji has no shortage of these expatriate Flotsam and Jetsam which drift to our illegal shores, rapidly rising through eager service to illegality and immorality, while trashing our human rights.’
Graham Davis says
Seriously, Charlie, is that the best you can do? This is the same recycled, regurgitated prejudice against Christopher Pryde that you have been running since he came after your mother-in-law.
Wadan Narsey was wrong in 2018 and he is wrong in the retelling 6 years later. If it wasn’t for Christopher Pryde, the killers of Vilikesa Soko would not have been brought to justice. I was there when he faced down an attempt by Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum to pervert the course of justice and persuade the DPP not prosecute a key member of the PM’s security detail. Do you think a local would have dared to do it given the prevailing circumstances?
But of course, this doesn’t suit your narrative or Wadan’s. No matter. The distant sounds of the tom-toms of the past. And guess what? The Coalition – for all its chronic self righteousness – hasn’t done a damn thing to alter the laws of sedition under which Hank Arts was prosecuted. So the same threat remains. Maybe direct your ire where it is most deserved.
Jackson says
Ahaha
So you had first hand experience when ASK telling not to prosecute key member of security force
Who was Soko?
Unfortunately he died, that shouldn’t have happened, but he was no saint either
That prosecution was just face value of the judiciary
There were many other cases swept away
