#”BROWN OWL”. NEITHER WISE NOR JUDICIOUS

Posted on October 22, 2020 16 Comments

A “war of words”, the Fiji Times called it on its front page on Tuesday – the Registrar of Political Parties and Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, going head-to-head with the leader of the National Federation Party, Biman Prasad, in a public squabble over the allocation of party funding. Saneem accuses Prasad of breaching the … [Read more...] about #”BROWN OWL”. NEITHER WISE NOR JUDICIOUS

# THE AG’S MANSERVANT AT THE FIJI SUN HITS BACK

Posted on October 21, 2020 13 Comments

There's nothing like free publicity and I got it in spades today from the Fiji Sun, which is clearly stung by my criticism of it for completely ignoring the Taiwanese government's account of the attack by two Chinese diplomats on one of its representatives in Suva and running only the improbable Chinese Embassy account.  The Sun dedicates … [Read more...] about # THE AG’S MANSERVANT AT THE FIJI SUN HITS BACK

#FIJI SUN. NUMBER ONE FOR CORRUPTION

Posted on October 20, 2020 18 Comments

I was being far too generous in my assessment of the Fijian media last week in describing the Fiji Sun as a travesty of a newspaper. It is, in fact, a grotesque parody of a newspaper - a propaganda rag not only for the FijiFirst government but the Chinese Communist Party which the Fijian people can no longer trust and should boycott. In the wake … [Read more...] about #FIJI SUN. NUMBER ONE FOR CORRUPTION

#THE FIJIAN MEDIA. AN ELECTION MIDTERM REPORT

Posted on October 15, 2020 36 Comments

A free and vibrant media is as much a pre-requisite for a healthy democracy in Fiji as upholding the principles of multiculturalism and a multi-faith society that I canvassed in my last article. And two years out from the next election – which will be critical for the maintenance and strengthening of that democracy - it’s worth examining the … [Read more...] about #THE FIJIAN MEDIA. About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
