#ER, CORRECTION. LOOK WHO GETS A MEDAL TODAY

Posted on October 6, 2020 10 Comments

Just as I was starting to think that the 50th anniversary of Independence medals are going to worthy recipients based on yesterday’s awards ceremony, look who pops up today? Fiji's Queen of Nepotism and Conflicts of Interest, Nur Bano Ali - the aunt of the Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum. You can read all about Aunty Nur in Part 2 of … [Read more...] about #ER, CORRECTION. LOOK WHO GETS A MEDAL TODAY

50the anniversary medal recipients

Congratulations are due to the 32 distinguished Fijians who received 50th anniversary Independence medals at a ceremony at State House in Suva yesterday (Sunday Oct 5). In one way or another, they are all deserving recipients. Yet a striking feature about the list is the obvious fact that the Fiji College of Honour, which devised it, appears to be … [Read more...] about #UNUSUALLY INDEPENDENT. THE MEDALS LIST

Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum and Frank Bainimarama

RULE BY FEAR, THE INFLUENCE OF THE AG'S FAMILY AND USP. We demonstrated in Part 1 last week how the Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, has breached accepted standards of corporate probity in countries like Australia and the United States by stacking the board of the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) with individuals who support him. And … [Read more...] about #A TANGLED WEB OF SECRECY AND CONTROL (PT 2)

#COMING ON FRIDAY. THE USP DEBACLE

Posted on September 29, 2020 26 Comments

An extract from the next instalment of A Tangled Web of Secrecy and Control: The Fijian Attorney General's action in cutting off Fiji’s contribution to the University of the South Pacific is extraordinary. It is a slap in the face for regional solidarity and the principle that has underlined USP right from the time it was founded half a … [Read more...] about #COMING ON FRIDAY. THE USP DEBACLE

#THE “AGEING DRAMA QUEEN” PRESSES ON

Posted on September 26, 2020 66 Comments

There’s nothing like a Prime Ministerial attack to boost one’s readership and I am indebted to Frank Bainimarama for propelling Grubsheet Feejee – within a month of its resumption – into the frontline of the national debate in Fiji. In one grumpy outburst written for him by Qorvis and the Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, the Prime Minister … [Read more...] about #THE “AGEING DRAMA QUEEN” PRESSES ON

#A TANGLED WEB OF SECRECY AND CONTROL (PT 1)

Posted on September 24, 2020 29 Comments

Few Fijians realise the tentacles of influence that the FijiFirst government has established to control a range of state-owned institutions and enterprises through a network of business associates of the Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, and trusted members of the civil service. It is a complex web of high-level relationships with the AG … [Read more...] about #A TANGLED WEB OF SECRECY AND CONTROL (PT 1)

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
