The clamour for the removal of the Minister for Bonking and Weed for defying Sitiveni Rabuka and doubling down on her call for the death penalty for drug traffickers now extends to two of the country’s veteran politicians – the former prime minister and Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, and more critically in terms of the politics of the vanua, the Unity Party leader, Savenaca Narube.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY: The Methodist Church – Fiji’s biggest and most influential denomination – also condemns Lynda Tabuya for her proposal, saying she would be personally accountable before God for any deaths under such a policy ( see below)
In Tuesday’s Fiji Sun, Chaudhry and Narube join others, including the newly independent Ketan Lal, in calling for Lynda Tabuya’s scalp. And while there is speculation that Sitiveni Rabuka is enabling Tabuya by publicly castigating her and secretly giving her the green light (see the comments on our posting last night), having someone of the stature of Savenaca Narube turning against her among iTaukei is increasing the pressure on the PM to act.
Tuesday’s newspaper coverage confirms that Lynda Tabuya’s defiance of the Prime Minister has given the death penalty saga fresh legs just when the Coalition desperately wants media attention to focus on Sitiveni Rabuka as elder statesman at the Pacific Islands Forum summit in Tonga. Well so much for that. As Grubsheet said in our previous posting, the Queen of Tarts is making the PM look completely impotent.
He castigated her for publicly floating the death penalty proposal before first referring it to cabinet. But as with everything else, Lynda Tabuya doesn’t give a damn. It is all about her and whether the Prime Minister comes out of this bizarre episode looking weak is neither here nor there for someone who has been out of control ever since Rabuka enabled her antics in Room 233.
Will the intervention of Narube and Chaudhry be enough to force Rabuka’s hand? Probably not. The government is already in a shambles. So why would it be remotely concerned that the PM has been humiliated and its hypocrisy has been exposed by the “weed”-smoking Minister for Women and Children calling for drug traffickers to be hanged?
It’s all in a day’s work with this rabble.
Today’s story on Page 3 of the Fiji Times is noticeably less strident, giving their pin-up girl more opportunity to sell her mad idea.
It is no longer about the proposal itself but Lynda Tabuya doubling down on it after she was castigated by the PM.
Journalism 101, you dummies.
And yet another reminder of the letter of termination Lynda Tabuya received from the Prime Minister as deputy leader of the People’s Alliance. It still hasn’t been published in Fiji.
Yep, the new era of “media freedom”. Freedom for the media to deprive the Fijian people of information they have a right to know.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY:
The Methodist Church in Fiji ( not “of” Fiji) joins in the condemnation of Lynda Tabuya, saying she would be personally accountable before God for any deaths arising from her proposal.
The Methodists are the biggest and most influential church in the country and this is a significant intervention.
Vili Wadali says
I agree with you. Narube and Mahen dont have the numbers or the gravitas to sway public opinion. Same as Ketan Lal who is the class clown.
Here is Suva Lynda’s remarks is being shrugged off as her personal opinion. There will be no public hangings at the newly refurbished Sukuna Park.
TonyS says
The Newly refurbished Sukuna Park in Suva- Minister for Bonking should be given the Honour of ‘Opening the Park’ , after all, Experience really matters, eh ?
High as a kite says
She says, “so it is the call of myself as a line Minister….”
Who English you Tabuya?
Dumb as dumb can be is the only trademark of this Collision Government.
Should have thrown her out long ago with Aseri.
Clowntree has gone total bonkers.
Waste of votes says
The sad as old man Rabuka is in Tonga today. Living his life.
The poor i-taukei will survive back at home.
Draunimoli tea and bread will do.
Lynda is busy stitching another shit of hers. Typical.
This is the change Fiji wanted.
Guru Singh says
SLR is the shoulder Lynda cries on, his embrace provides comfort – he is after all her “leader”
Don’t believe for a moment she will be fired
Sad Observer Scared for Fiji says
It’s creating a nice smokescreen distraction from Rabuka’s attendance at the PIF fresh after a strategically timed 10 day ego manipulating China trip. The Coalition wouldn’t want too much media focus on that.
Only me says
An extremely frightening thought to have death penalty in Fiji, the way the world should or shouldn’t be. Imagine this group of thugs sentencing innocent people or people they have a grudge against. Imagine what a field day the DPP, Temo gang would have. They will be answerable to no one. They will make the person going to the death chamber a torturous hell. It is quite frightening indeed.

Graham. If you study carefully what the PM has said, while engaged in his overseas function in Tonga, as per the Fiji Sun article 26 August 2024 – ” “I am hoping that the next Cabinet meeting on Tuesday (tomorrow), the acting Prime Minister will bring up the issue with the Minister who made the statement.” – he has, true to his crafty nature, left it to the Acting PM to deal with it. And who is the Acting PM? Manoa – the other Ahab, who has already gone on the public record in full support of LT, both violating cabinet protocol on this matter, and Manoa will go on the defensive. No action will be taken against LT. So there you are. LT once more gets away with her out of control juvenile actions. And the public is being played big time, yet again.
You know Graham on that vote when they agreed with LT to rob the public treasury which moved with such extraordinary speed to be legitimised, I was hoping to at least find someone among the People’s Alliance in Parliament asking to vote against on the grounds of conscience (the Constitution 2013 allows this). To my dismay, none was found.
All PA MPs voted along Party lines, and the only one who could have stopped it was the PM, but as usual choking with emotion in Parliament, he sold the public another lie to defend it, while having the gall to paint himself as such a saint for settling on a decrease in salary. Truth be told all of them experienced a massive increase, since they were on a reduced salary package as that’s what they campaigned for during election. But how quickly they thought of a way, to claw back what they promised the public to give up while on election campaign.
And now LT says they will work harder with more pay – that’s not what they said during the election campaign. Come next elections such statements should be played back to the public, over and over again, to help them be more informed with their votes, and get the calibre of politicians who will put public interest first and uphold public integrity and morality.
I am saddened for the people and our beloved nation. They deserve far more in relation to leadership.

Anonymous -I am saddened for the people and our beloved nation. They deserve far more in relation to leadership.
Do they deserve better? They demanded change. The voters heard the one and only thing that made sense to them and only cared for: racism and intense hatred for ASK.
And here we are, with a recycled bottle collector treasonous thug and his equally brainless support cast.
The senile treasonous thug is an avowed one trick pony. We can say racism is all he knows. But that would be just the half of it.
The other half sang from the same hymn sheet to the T: the voters loved the dog whistling: vulagi; kuini of tatti said do not celebrate on Sunday because that “is our holy day.”
Never mind kuini of tatti latter turned into a holey day in rm 233 smoking bong and bonking all night. Tarti said she couldn’t walk straight the next day because the woman basher had ripped her a new one in room #233. You couldn’t make this up if you tried.
One other loser slut from Lautoka repeated the vulagi trope and was rewarded with a board appointment.
The voters swallowed everything they heard except their pride and voted for change. They voted en mass -as high as 70% – for ethnic hate and ethno-nationalism. To the people it was an easy choice to make.
Yes, voters deserve this government.

Gives Steve another opportunity to give her a mighty spank and try to prove himself better than Aseri.
In any other country, she would’ve been a gonner when she was asking for Diwali to be silent, asking for evidence from 1987 brutalities, fundraising and spilling money prior to elections, committing adultery on multiple occasions, taking illicit drugs, suggesting people be killed, etc.
Obviously her skills on the knees are A-Grade which has old Steve high on adrenaline.
