Lynda Tabuya’s attempt to play victim and turn the spotlight from her “brutal” sex encounter with Aseri Radrodro into a call for more online safety has backfired in spectacular fashion, with her incriminating text messages reaching hundreds of thousands of new readers in New Zealand.
Her interview with Radio New Zealand in which she tried to deflect attention to online harassers like an unnamed “person living in Sydney” (Grubsheet) has caught the attention of Cameron Slater – the influential Fiji-born Kiwi journalist and activist whose website, the BFD, is widely read and who is alternately respected, loathed and feared for his forthright coverage of politics and business.
Cam Slater has taken the blowtorch to Lynda Tabuya – publishing the texts in full to a much bigger audience than that of Grubsheet or Fijileaks and causing further embarrassment to the Great Temptress just when she is looking to the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, to exonerate her.
Trying to cast herself as victim has only made things worse. Cam Slater calls it a classic case of the Streisand effect *, when an attempt to deflect public attention away from a particular issue backfires and increases awareness of the information someone is trying to hide. You could just as well also call it the Heineken effect – after an ad for the famous Dutch beer – in which knowledge of a sex and drug scandal like the one that has enveloped Lynda Tabuya reaches parts that it normally wouldn’t reach. And all thanks to hubris and poor judgment.
Poor Lynda. Now she is running around New Zealand with a whole lot more sideways glances and whispers than she would have got if she hadn’t tried to play victim. Can it possibly be true that she has been with a fresh paramour in the form of Filimoni Vosarogo, the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources?
That’s the latest rumour which Grubsheet is anxious to quash simply because this is all too much to deal with. I honestly thought I was unshockable after half a century as a journalist but events in Fiji have really started to test my limits. So please, Fili, tell us it isn’t true.
We’re still waiting for an announcement from the Prime Minister on the future of the Minister for Bonking and Weed. Some reports have it that influential members of the women’s lobby in the People’s Alliance are accepting her claims that the images and texts are fake while others think clearing her will only increase the government’s woes. Which way will the PM go? We can be sure it will be in the direction of expediency rather than principle.
Grubsheet understands there is no interest in Lynda Tabuya at FijiFirst. As many people in the military, the civil service and politics have discovered to their cost, Frank Bainimarama is ruthless in dispensing with anyone in an extra marital-situation or with the slightest whiff of sexual impropriety about them.
We don’t need to list their names here but it is inconceivable to anyone who knows him that he would accommodate the Great Temptress. For a start, Mary wouldn’t let him. So for Lynda, it is Sitiveni Rabuka or political oblivion. And if it is Sitiveni Rabuka, it could be oblivion anyway. For both of them and certainly for the reputation of the People’s Alliance and the Coalition government.
Trying best to hide the truth but it getting more clearer. She has no political future. Disgrace to those who voted her in.. her global trotting on tax payer funded trips will end soon.

….some people think you need to get in a drug and alcohol treatment program and others think you need a mental health program

While I think it is necessary for a public figure to explain matters of public importance, Lynda Tabuya should have taken a lesson and kept her trap shut.

The first sign of fakeness I ever saw from Lynda that gave me an “off” vibe was during the ATS workers lockout in Nadi when the corrupt Riyaz Sayed Khaiyum was on the board. She was in a car travelling to the workers locked out and she asked the guy holding the camera if it was recording. When he gave the OK to signal it was recording, she suddenly burst into this different character, talking about the workers and the lockout. Next minute she was taking pictures with the workers and “showing her support” but it seemed all just a show to kickstart her political ambitions. And as revealed in her texts to Aseri Radrodro about taking over Sodelpa and praising Mere Samisonis death as a blessing, its not hard to believe that she is very calculated and conniving in whatever she does. A great actor/pretender she is. You can fool some people Lynda but you cant fool everyone. To conclude I would like to leave Lynda this parting quote from Spartacus (Gods of the Arena) which I think is very apt considering how riled up everyone gets now whenever she delivers one of her fake speeches – “Words fall from your mouth as Shit from ass” – please Lynda, Do the honourable thing and resign or shut up.
