Anyone reading today’s editorial in the Fiji Sun might be excused for thinking that Grubsheet has taken over the paper. It pronounces Sitiveni Rabuka “no longer fit to run the nation” and lists a series of offences that has led the paper to the conclusion Grubsheet reached a long time ago.
For the first time, there is reference to the “drug-fuelled sex encounter” between Lynda Tabuya and Aseri Radrodro. Now where have we seen that line before? Certainly not in the two Fijian daily newspapers. But there it is, written not by Grubsheet but the Fiji Sun‘s Ranoba Baoa.
This is a “must read” for every Fijian, not just a withering editorial but a historical punctuation mark. It is the day the mainstream media in Fiji began to turn on Sitiveni Rabuka and his government – unquestionably a “red letter day”. And it will be causing a huge amount of consternation in the Prime Minister’s Office and in the People’s Alliance, which is taking a hammering over Lynda Tabuya’s obscene parliamentary orgy of salary hikes and increased benefits.
The Fiji Sun blames Sitiveni Rabuka’s “back and forth decisions and public blunders” for having lost the confidence of the paper and the nation. But the Prime Minister has also became a chronic liar – Captain Lasulasu Jhoot. The Sun puts the latest outrage on its front page – news that the parliament’s emolument increases have already been gazetted, passed into law, when Sitiveni Rabuka has spent the past few days insisting that they are still to be debated and suggesting that they are not written in stone. They are and there’s the absolute proof on the Fiji Sun‘s front page.
It is yet another nail in Sitiveni Rabuka’s political coffin. The chief pig at the parliamentary trough is also an expert at telling porkies, not the little white lies that are the staple of politics but big porkies. Monster porkies. Lies so blatant that they have become very easy to expose. And that anyone with half a brain can see through. Sitiveni’s trousers are ablaze and the flames are consuming his credibility as the nation’s leader.
Today marks the day that one of the main newspapers has told the Fijian people that their Prime Minister can no longer be trusted to lead. To look after their interests and “run the nation”. And it gives chapter and verse why – far from a definitive critique but devastating enough.
It is all downhill for the PAP and the Coalition from now on. When it was just Grubsheet and Fijileaks, they could ignore the criticism. But the contagion of disillusionment and censure has finally spread to the mainstream media in Fiji. And it is genuinely the beginning of the end.

Proof the Prime Minister has lied.

But while the Fiji Sun has turned with a damning editorial, over at the Fiji Times, Fred Wesley is still talking about everything else other than the issue the whole nation is talking about.
Reflections on a paper that has lost the plot.

And the Minister of sex and drugs has left herself widely open for accusation of blatantly lying by posting and commenting on her long ended letter to the public.
She says the salary rise is not effective. It will be out for consultation so public can suck it up now and wait for that time to arrive. “If you don’t want to be informed that is your ,,,,,I have done my job….process”.
It is all out there in black and blue for public to decide how very amateurish, silly and misleading she is.
Previously I used to buy the Fiji Times and not the Fiji Sun.
Today, I bought the Fiji Sun, not the Fiji Times.
And if I could read Hindi, I’d buy the Shanti Dut as well.
Agree with all of your assertions bar one….SR is not a good liar at all. He lacks the mental tracking & short term memory not to trip himself up each day or at times from sentence to sentence. The only people who would not pick up his lies are those with similar cognitive issues.
Reading & appreciating all of your articles, I’ve had so many “surely people will get what’s going on now” moments that I’ve lost track!
Thanks Graham!
Agree with most of what Fiji Sun states but this is the very newspaper that did not speak ill of Frank and Aiyaz but always propped them up despite all wrong doings by the duo and now the Fiji Sun enjoys media freedom thanks to Coalition Governments removal of the media laws.
Bloody hypocrites
Reflecting…… question’s for Fred “lamulamu” Wesley to have pondered over in his editorial…
Had Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna been alive would he have endorsed Rabuka’s 1987 military coups usurping a democratically-elected government?
Was Rabuka’s coup’s a betrayal of all that Ratu Sukuna worked so hard for towards making Fiji the three legged multi cultural tool he envisioned?
Methinks Rabuka and his ethnonationslist communalist’s insofar as Fiji’s political landscape is concerned is concerned, are the betrayer’s in that regard.
Or is the question for the Fiji Times irrelevant?
Just asking!!
And the Fiji Times covering up for the Collision Government and choosing to focus on the Fiji First drama instead. Govt propaganda paper
This clown has lost the plot. PAP coalition govt has become a laughing stock and circus. This is what happens when you have bunch of incompetent leading the nation. We never saw such thing under the leadership of Fiji First govt. Internal fighting, backstabbing, nepotism, racism, ministers having adultery affairs and weed on govt funded trips, so many ministers on corruption charges with FICAC, compromised judiciary and the list goes on. We have PM who keeps shredding skin like snake changing statement every now and then. Has incompetent AG giving him poor advice in regards to constitution and law and poor PR communications team leading to further humiliation and embrassement. This govt needs to go before it causes further misery on the poor and suffering people who are living on very low minimum wages and there is mass exodus on skilled people through migration. RBF latest inflation rate has jumped to 7% highest in 10 years caused by high cost of living mainly through increase in VAT and we have Minister of Finance who has no clue how to run modern economy and faces serious allegations of abuse of office by Lynda and is dodging media to respond to serious allegations to clear his name for sake of transparency and accountability
Fiji Times have entered into a lucrative multi million dollars contract, plus hundred of thousands to FCL, Fiji Village. This is the reason they won’t criticise Rabuka until he is thrown out
Dont forget Fiji’s disgraceful vote – s at the UN regarding the counterfeit Jewish State. The Talmudic Satanic cult State and its Zionist ideology can never be supported by Christians of a pure heart. Support if Israel is anti-Christ. Simple, judge by their fruit. Hate death and destruction. Imagine sitting in a Cabinet meeting and being surrounded by lies.immorality. greed. This is the stench that leads our country. It is the curse of the Westminister system that curses not only Fiji but also the fascist West. New elections under this system will continue to destroy our nation. The RFMF MUST STEP IN AND STOP THE SHAME AND INSANE DESTRUCTION OF OUR NATION. We must rid our representative system that does not allow honest citizens to participate in our governance. We need an interim governmet tasked with putting in place A OneParty State. Putting in place the Constitutional Assembly. Making law for Section 121 of the Constitution – District Guardian Councils. Before proceeding to putting in all our assemblies and ultimate Central Committee. A 2 year process.
The toad is now starting to look like a donkey. And, as the well known saying goes “A donkey will always remain a donkey, you cannot change it into a horse”. It is like putting lipstick on a pig. That is very relevant to the PM and all those surrounding him. If Baimaan and Jai Ram Reddy think and thought the donkey had changed, they were deluding themselves and there are many hundreds of thousands of Fijian voters who have been idiots with them. There is no one else to blame or complain to except themselves. Remember the exuberance in Dec 2022. How long was the pretence going to last? The vast majority of Fijians are idiots – that is undeniable. And then they all wonder why they are where they are and the country is where it is! Why are people leaving in droves?
The people of Fiji are “un-sudharable”. That means they are not capable of improving.
Dear Mr Davis. Can you please put better photos of the government and opposition opportunists. The photos posted against the articles I am sure gives a lot of people nightmares.
That’s the idea. I have nightmares about the state of the nation. Why shouldn’t you?
Once again this guy Rabuka has lied. His lies, deception and selfish behaviour is beyond immigination. He is the man who started the rot in Fiji 37 years ago and I wonder why he is in politics. The other day he said the salary vote in Parliament was just for discussion. Now we understand it has been gazetted. Who is he fooling? He has made so many mistakes and yet majority i-Taukeis will vote for him next time. Give young educated Fijians to run the country. He is a laughing stock. We need a stong leader who can look the welfare of all its people.
Thanks to PM Rabuka for the Girmit public holiday we had earlier this month … one of the few pre-election promises he did not break.
But the statesman whose life is being celebrated today would be, as you often say Graham, “spinning in his grave” following the unprecedented pay rise that our legislators recommended and approved for themselves. In comparison, Ratu Sukuna reportedly lived a simple life and died penniless. So he was fit to lead, unlike our current PM as the title of your article suggests. Vinaka vakalevu then, Indispensable Lynda!
Rabuka is the worst Prime Minister we have ever had in our history.
He and his govt have put Fiji on a quick path to Fiji becoming the Haiti of the Pacific.
