Seriously though, Grubsheet is pleased for him that Charlie Charters has won his court case today because I wouldn’t wish a stint in Naboro or Korovou on anyone, let alone someone so obviously unfit for prison life.
The judicial finding of a probable abuse of process on the part of FICAC has wider implications beyond just Charlie. It will affect a great many cases to come because it goes to the heart of the integrity of the corruption watchdog under its current leadership.
This is essentially a finding of corruption against FICAC itself. An abuse of process is also an abuse of office on the part of the FICAC Commissioner, Lavi Rokoika. And this is a stunning blow to her integrity and her ability to do the job properly, just as the CoI allegations nailed Barbara Malimali.
Old “Long Loaf” Charlie will doubtless be celebrating and Grubsheet will also make a point of raising a glass of Old Peculier Yorkshire ale to toast him, not least because there but for the grace of God go I were I stupid enough to ever set foot in Fiji again.
