# GRUBSHEET ON FACEBOOK

Posted on October 2, 2021 9 Comments

Grubsheet continues to post Fijian-related material on its Facebook page even as the main long- format site is in recess until the lead-up to the Fijian election sometime between July 2022 and January 2023. We are continuing to break stories, many of which the rest of the Fijian media ignores, and in a very short space of time, have built a Facebook readership of well over 100,000 a month, with some stories attracting more than 30,000 views. These are significant numbers in a country of under a million people.

A great many Grubsheet Facebook stories are also being shared and republished elsewhere, including New Zealand’s Asia Pacific Report. So that the actual reach makes Grubsheet an important contributor to the national debate in Fiji and a vital part of the mainstream Fijian media, which continues to labour under the burden of Fiji’s draconian media laws.

The more important Facebook pieces will eventually be uploaded to this website and join the catalogue of material dating back to 2011. Readers will notice that having once been a strong supporter of the Bainimarama government to the extent of going to work in Fiji as its principal communications advisor, its assault on the independent institutions of state, its harassment of opposition figures and the cronyism and nepotism that has come to be the hallmark of the government have resulted in me becoming a voluble critic. I am hoping that a credible alternative emerges capable of winning the 2022 election and of putting Fiji on a more genuinely democratic and enlightened course.

Thanjs Graham and I am glad you now realize that Fiji is NOT a genuine democracy and kudos to you for exposing them and standing up for the rule of law , democracy and speaking truth to power.

Can anyone tell my why it’s necessary to have a new/different coloured voting card for the forthcoming elections? Did I miss something? (FT 2 Oct.’21)

It’s been coming but eventually you realized a long time ago that Frankie is another stooge cozying up to Khaiyum sniffing his rear end as REAR admiral.

The massive changes FFP is currently undertaking indicates that it’s a last hurrah like they know they won’t win the next elections, might even flop it intentionally since both stooges aren’t in good health at the moment the way power has taken it’s toll on them physically.

But what do I know anyways, at least Grubby has thoroughly elaborated everything wrong with the government ever since the sudden change of tone.

Keep the stories coming on Facebook, including the potential ones put up here.

Insiders views are always very interesting. Sometimes, small anecdotes reveal critical information about the way a government operates. In this regard, the failed flag change analysis on your blog was amongst the best and most “entertaining” stories ever; it was even republished overseas so keep them coming. I actually think it almost deserves to be republished to remind Fijians how things work under Voreqe’s rule: white lies, incompetence, wasting of time and money…

You should post something about the first “ovasis” trip in a very long time of rear-admiral (ret) Voreqe Bainimarama.

How developing tourism can help save the climate is something our shy military commander hasn’t yet explained us. If he had even half of a brain, he may have tried to bring all sun destinations together to discuss about the possibility of not allowing tourist visas for less than a month (at least). But no. There’s NOTHING intelligent coming out of him. Nothing.

What a joke. Fiji hasn’t taken ANY action (even a symbolic one) to protest against Europe’s hypocrisy. Nothing.

Fiji simply gave up Cop-23 to Germany for no good reason. Dumb. Not only he didn’t manage to put Fiji on the map, he litteraly swept us under Europe’s carpet.

We look like a colony’s colony now.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
