# THE USUAL FIJI-STYLE DELAY. BUT WAS IT REALLY NECESSARY?

Barbara Malimali’s judicial review ruling that was due this afternoon has been pushed into next week and will be delivered by Justice Dane Tuiqereqere on Monday.

It will now coincide with the verdict by the Chief Justice, Salesi Temo, in the case against Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Mohammed Saneem.

Justice Tuiqereqere said he was 90 per cent into writing his judgment but needed the weekend to complete it, having read the entire CoI Report.

There was no explanation as to why his chambers could not have telegraphed the delay to the media and interested parties earlier than when the verdict was actually due to be delivered.

In the meantime, a letter has surfaced today from the former prime minister and Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, to the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, eviscerating him and the government for its handling of the CoI Report.

To be read in conjunction with statements from the Opposition leader, Inia Seruiratu, and his People First colleagues, Premila Kumar and Jone Usamate, that we published in our previous article.

The pressure on the government is building and threatens to dog the Coalition all the way to the election. For Sitiveni Rabuka, the option of doing nothing but be buffeted by events is no longer viable if he wants to avoid serious electoral damage in the election countdown.

NOTE TO MY READERS:

Unfortunately, Grubsheet will not be able to cover Monday’s events – two of the most important developments in recent times

I am having surgery under general anaesthetic in hospital on Monday and will be out of action for some time after that. My regrets.

Suggest you keep one eye on the mainstream media and the other on Victor Lal’s Fijileaks – www.fijileaks.com

Dane will come to heel quick smart and that will give Boka Temo the additional confidence to convict Aiyaz.

I suppose Temo needs the weekend to convince Tuiqereqere to give Malimali back her job.

Or, Malimali needs the weekend to “convince” Tuiqereqere to give her back her job, just like she tried to do in Tuvalu…

So,here is how, I think, it will all play out:

    1. Baiman Chopsuey and Kamsahamida Kamica have started praying from this afternoon till Monday for Malimali to win so that she can go back to FICAC like a D8 Bulldozer and reverse their prosecution file. But that current FICAC lady acting commissioner is stronger and bigger than the eye glass she wears! Maybe stronger than Winston also.

    2. Malimali have started to count $2m in her mind that she thinks will be awarded to her Monday. Tanya will have coffee with Malimali at an open area coffee shop and Malimali may put on her FB.

    3. Sadly for Kai and Sunnim, Saleshni won’t spare them on Monday….a 2 year do the time coming for them. Though he may feel himselft a victim of political witchhunt, Kai should also reflect how much he was arrogant to unfairly punish so many people. He should have stayed from Nurr $500k Rewa Dairy scam Aunty, thief accountanto uncle Zarrin and fisherman oldy and wannabe smart uncle mahmoooood, sanjaaay kaba korrupt, Fayee yeeeee crooked mad lay, musaa drug dealer and so many other crooks such as now deceased airport man faiz kahn

    4. And here is the interesting part, Rolex Rambo will close down FICAC and transfer it to Police department when he feels Malimali is adamant to come back. In the process, he will free Baiman and Kamsahamida kamica just days before election…

EDS NOTE: PARAGRAPH 5 REMOVED FOR LEGAL REASONS.

Thank you GS for your article. FBC’s story is maybe 5 sentences worth. It’s a real shame. The free media are complicit with hiding the decay.

Wishing you a speedy recovery and best of health.

Good luck with your surgery and wishing a speedy recovery.
The letter is written in plainest English and in simple terms. So hopefully, dotty old PM gets it.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
