# CAN IT POSSIBLY BE TRUE? SOMEONE WITH INTEGRITY AND JUDGMENT AS ATTORNEY GENERAL?

Posted on October 30, 2025 25 Comments

The coconut wireless is crackling with reports that Luke Daunivalu – one of the finest Fijians of his generation – is about to be announced as AG to replace the hapless and perennially accident-prone Siromi Turaga.

If it is true – and pray God it is – then it is cause for national celebration. Because as well as having had a distinguished career as a government lawyer – including in the AG’s office – and been one of Fiji’s most successful career diplomats, Luke Daunivalu has a reputation for being a man of unimpeachable integrity and principle.

If – pray God again – the Prime Minister has been able to convince him to become the government’s chief legal advisor, it is extremely encouraging news amid the gloom of two senior ministers facing corruption charges and a government wallowing in dysfunction.

Fingers crossed that the rumours are true. Because we desperately need men and women of Luke Daunivalu’s calibre to save the ship of state and restore confidence in our institutions.

You are correct GD. One of Fiji’s finest and capable of being a great PM. For Fiji’s sake, the rumour has to be true!

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. We all thought Leung would set this shoddy lot straight and his record speaks for itself with his globe trotting and other shenanigans.

The role of AG in this disgusting government appears to be a cursed one as it turns good men into crooks.

All I can say from personal experience is that Luke Daunivalu is competent, hardworking, polished, humble and completely dedicated to public service.

An outstanding individual who I worked with when he was Fiji’s chief negotiator at COP 23. Internationally respected and rightly so.

Let’s hope you are right Graham. With Luke on board and with two of the shysters on the slippery slope to oblivion, we might see light at the end of the tunnel.

It just needs the rest of the crocodiles being disposed of and some honourable people to stand up and be counted and put in the hard yards to get the country back on the right track.

A gem of a leader and diplomat. Yes, one of the finest minds and so principled. Absolutely Fiji’s best sons . Luke is Fiji’s pride.

I tremble though, with all those crocodiles in the black sea, lurking in the shadows .

The light house Fiji so desperately needs now .

GD, agree with you about Luke being completely dedicated to public service.

Do not forget that collation of the unwilling are completely dedicated to self service.

Meanwhile in other news……. great council of coconuts to kowtow to vulagi-in-chief in London.

An all expenses paid business class trip when their lesser coconuts are crying poor and blaming Hindis for their poverty.

Guess they didn’t learn too much in China. Other than the food can be good, and the scenery great.

We won’t mention the wonderful benefits of foot ‘massages.’

Sorry for the cynicism – regardless of how much integrity Luke has, only a magician can make a measurable difference to Fiji under with the snake, CJ & President still calling the shots behind closed doors.

But I guess we all need to believe there can be magic at times like these.

Couldn’t agree more. Luke Daunivalu would be a breath of fresh air and let us hope he brings much needed integrity and fairness to the important role.

The previous AG was so compromised, even travelled to Baku with Biman Prasad as part of the COP junket, as a reward for his role in the Malimali scandal.

This would be a real test for him and will not be an easy assignment in a government which thrives on corruption, cronyism and manipulation. But Mr Daunivalu has had great experience in the UN system, rubbing shoulders with men and women of integrity, to know where and how to draw the line.

We do wish him all the best.

Let’s be real. At the end of the day, every civil servant must kowtow to the policies of the current government.

The real problem is perhaps two-fold – these technocratic types spend large amounts of their time abroad being part of bureaucratic organizations and living in expensive cities living a luxurious lifestyle. Second, he’d be more than pleased to have a job again that pays a hefty salary and benefits.

He’d otherwise be unemployable in the private sector or run his own business, Fiji being a small pond for the expertise and skill set they bring. A bureaucracy is where they are most comfortable.

At the end of the day, he’ll take his orders from a pedo, a snake, a baboon, and Santa Saleshni. No doubt the porn and weed queen will pay him a ‘courtesy ‘ visit to remind him of his place in the cabinet.”

In our excitement, we forget there is only but a thin veneer of ‘independence’ between all branches of government run by thugs, kaivatas, previously disbarred lawyers, drunks, porn making and drugs taking biatches, and convicted criminals.

You are quite wrong about his currency to get a job in the international system. He has been highly respected at the UN and elsewhere and could have easily turned his back on Fiji. And he has the competence and skills to be a valuable asset anywhere in the commercial world.

If he has not served in powerhouse Pacific countries like Palau, Niue, Cook Islands and Tuvalu that is a positive. But his biggest asset would be he is iTaukei.
My concern is, if he is such a nice person, he would be totally unsuited to the job.
Isnโ€™t the reality with this governmentโ€™s appointments in the judiciary that one needs to be a complete arsehole to be suited to a job?

Such a relief that the word “idiots” does not appear at all in the body of this post, assuming of course that its author is the same “Idiots everywhere”. Perhaps, because Luke is not an idiot, while the rest of us still are.

Luke has to be thick skinned in order to deliver in that “pond” and, among others, play a constructive part in legislative reform execution that is the subject of the Justice Summit now underway in Nadi. By the way, just look at the guest list below, all are “crocodiles”.

Hint hint of Lynda’s imminent promotion to DPM is this morning’s Government FB post below that features most prominently the Information Minister, rather than the Justice Minister and/or the Chief Justice at the JUSTICE Summit. Great timing too, inaugural on the eve of elections.

Minister for Information Hon. Lynda Tabuya joined key leaders and stakeholders at Fijiโ€™s first ever Justice Summit 2025 in Nadi, a historic event uniting government, the judiciary, the Bose Levu Vakaturaga, civil society, and development partners to shape a more just and people centred Fiji.

Hon. Tabuya commended the Ministry of Justice for leading an inclusive reform process and highlighted that โ€œtrue justice is not only found in the courtroom, but in how we communicate, listen, and ensure every Fijian is treated with dignity and respect.โ€

The Summit also featured a keynote address by Hon Siromi Turaga, Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, who presented the Final Report on the Functional Status of Fijiโ€™s Law and Justice Sector, the 2025-2029 Reform Roadmap. These initiatives set out the pathway to address systemic challenges and strengthen public confidence in the rule of law.

These key documents were launched by His Excellency, the Acting President of Fiji and Chief Justice, Salesi Temo.

Hon. Tabuya acknowledged the collaborative spirit reflected throughout the discussions and paid tribute to all partners involved, including Australiaโ€™s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Judiciary, the Fiji Law Society, the Bose Levu Vakaturaga, FCOSS, SPC, UNICEF, and other civil society and faith based organisations.

โ€œThe progress we make in justice reform depends not only on legal frameworks but also on how we communicate those reforms to the people. Transparency, dialogue, and trust are essential,โ€ she added.

Yes, they are the crocodiles alright. Tabuya, Turaga and Temo. The Terrible Trio. .

What a ghastly line-up. And once again, the so called “Minister for Information” makes herself the main focus of the story.

If she is restored as Deputy PM, good. They will be an even bigger target in the election lead-up. A drug-taking, lying tart as number two in the government. How stupid could they get?

The contrast between that strumpet and Luke Daunivalu couldn’t be greater.

There is only one problem – the SG Green. Luke will not be able to achieve anything with an absolute dumbo. All major disasters have been caused by the SG while everyone blames the PM, President and CJ. As long as he is SG nothing will change. Dumb as *.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. What you see is not what you will get. Luke is a smart individual no doubt. Too smart perhaps! A further insight into his background and his personal views will surely awaken most.

For Rabuka to consider Luke for the AG job is not entirely based on competency – Rabuka will always appoint someone who he has control over and will toe the line with his sinister policies. Look at Leung – promises of a sweeping change. That was laughable from the beginning.

Luke will be that poster boy – seasoned public servant and diplomat. No doubt Luke will provide a great cover for the far more deeper and darker underlying motives of Rabuka.

If Luke does get appointed, time will reveal his true character and once again, the sinister motives of Rabuka.

You all celebrated the coalition defeating FFP with far fetched promises for change for the better.

If Rabuka truly wanted a change for the better, he would suspend Temo, appoint a new Chief Justice and suspend all those implicated in the COI report and not be selective on who goes – which is what he is currently doing.

Celebrate all you want – Rabuka never fails NOT to disappoint.

I will leave it at that.

I understand your scepticism and don’t blame you. Just for the record, that notoriously hard taskmaster, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, liked and respected Luke Daunivalu. That respect was earned, not automatically bestowed. Which should tell you something about the man and his qualities.

      Absolutely agree with you,
this regime with the demonic will,
      will, destroy this man.

He will become tainted and compromised amidst a cabinet
of the many who have sold their souls

SLR is akin to a hog farmer who has lost control over all his piglets, all with their snouts in the trough, squealing and shoving each other, growing in their confidence to usurp, subvert, liumuri. This little piggy,
      went to ………
      want to ……….

Pity, senile old hog farmer does not own the farm, he gave it away and can not get it back. All he is in charge of now is dishing out the mash.

This will be the end of this poor boy, end of innocence, end of integrity, end of his soul, fed temptation.
      Will he succumb ?

The only reason the new AG might be sworn in is because he is ready to serve the divisive interests of a few at the expense of many.

We know that in recent time the AG position is jinxed- musical chairs, if you will.

A person of Luke’s level of respect, dignity, intellect and integrity will remain only as long and until an international organization comes calling to lure him back abroad.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Governmentโ€™s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fijiโ€™s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimaramaโ€™s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheetโ€™s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fijiโ€™s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fijiโ€™s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
