The nation has never needed certainty more than it needs it now yet the Prime Minister and his Coalition colleagues are wallowing in indecision and incompetence, so much so that they are keeping us in ignorance of certain things that should, by now, be set in stone.
Is it true that Sitiveni Rabuka sent his Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, to ask the Great Council of Chiefs to lobby for the election due by the end of the first week in February to be delayed?
Is it true that those at the Elections Office charged with holding the election still don’t know whether it will happen? That rumours abound that the government is talking about having a referendum, not an election, in which the first question will be “do you agree that the election should be delayed”? And if the answer to that is “yes”, there won’t be an election until Fiji has a new constitution?
Who knows? Because that is the lunacy that prevails four months out from what should be polling day under the 2013 Constitution – which the Supreme Court ruled a year ago is inarguably Fiji’s supreme law – yet the government simply refuses to confirm.
It is a basic failure of leadership – an absolute disgrace – and the uncertainty all this is causing is not only deeply unsettling and divisive for the nation as a whole but threatens international confidence in Fiji and the nation’s economic welfare.
This national drift cannot continue. The government must end its prevarication about the timing of the election and on what basis it will be fought. And it must do so NOW.
Why? Because with the entire world in a state of chaos, for Fiji to be in the same position is unforgivable. It is self-indulgent, reckless and totally unnecessary. The nation desperately needs proper leadership and stability yet Sitiveni Rabuka and his colleagues seem totally incapable of delivering it. And while this uncertainty continues, they have forfeited their right to even be considered for another term.
Make no mistake. The stakes have never been higher and the evidence for that is how Viti lailai – Little Fiji – is now dangerously adrift, wallowing rudderless in turbulent seas that threaten to engulf the entire world.
It’s all in the following disturbing article in the Times of London by a top American journalist, Gerard Baker, that I urge you to read if you don’t read anything else this week. Because if his predictions are borne out, Fijians will not escape what is coming – at the very least, the prospect of winding up as economic road kill.
As Rolex Rambo and his colleagues fiddle and fret about a new constitution, they seem to have no idea of the danger all around us. They better get a grip on reality real quick. Because they are placing the nation in the worst possible position to be ready for the shocks to come.
We desperately need stability and certainty at home to even begin to cope with a world that is hurtling towards catastrophe. And the Coalition is failing in its principal duty, above all else, to provide that stability and put the national interest first.

I am ready to vote. I want the creator of Fiji’s coup culture out. First he stops the local elections and now, with less than five months to go, he has taken no genuine step to announce the election date. “Fiji time” is not a good enough answer here.
The Constitution is good enough for now. The next government can carry on that work. In fact, a new government may do a better and more holistic job, give us a second opinion and consult a much wider section of the population. There is no reason to hold up an election for this.
This man and the coup culture he created have affected my life since I was born. I want a change. I genuinely cannot recall a single good thing this government has achieved. Not even one.
I want to vote. I want to vote as soon as possible. I want the people of Fiji to decide who leads us. With every passing day, I pray for the demise of this government at the ballot box.

This government came to power and decided that the most important thing to do beyond all else was give a tax holiday to billionaires.

The last thing Fiji needs is sell outs.
Under Rabuka, it is for everyone and his dog under his ethnonationalist agenda. I-Taukeis are his priority at whatever cost. Of course being a relative, record of wheeling and dealing, even facing serious charges and sucking up to him and his cause are the ‘merit based’ criteria to enable success and highest position in the current Government. This extends to special consideration of his henchmen/women from his time as the kingpin coupist. That of course is an entitlement to loot the national purse.
Just look around how he is rewarding people like Tabuya, Radrodro, Peter Wise, Charan Singh, Ajay Amrit, etc etc – this list is endless. He recently promoted Ditoka as Foreign Minister and already he is proving a major embarrassment. He shamelessly failed to support other Pacific leaders in their call out to Australia on its hypocritical climate (non) action. And Tabuya has been elevated to keep the climate change and environment chair ‘pretty’.
They are showing the rest of the Pacific the 2 fingers when it comes to regionalism and working together, smarting from its arrogance of establishing bilateral treaty and selling Fiji’s sovereignty.
Recently, unknown to many, Ditoka transformed the PIDF from an organisation for the Pacific Island countries without Australia and NZ, to his own agricultural marketing agency. Rather than pursuing climate diplomacy, PIDF is now selling his agricultural products, in partnership with his Chinese business friend, to other Pacific countries. There have been zero consultations with the other Pacific countries who are part of PIDF and indeed contributed funds under its charter.
It is only under Rabuka and our sleeping media that such an outrage can occur.
Back in the so called “dark days” of Fiji, people clamoured about Bainimarama and Aiyaz doing the same thing and using excuses to defer elections or circumvent legal frameworks to keep themselves in power.
Rabuka and his other racist goons used these wild rumours to fuel fire and drum up enough votes for themselves, promising they would never do such things.
Here we are in 2026, nearing elections and we find Rabuka doing everything and more to ensure the elections are not held and that his party can hold on to power for the unforseeable future.

It may be able to push all this through with the support of the former members of FijiFirst it bought off with cabinet positions but that is also an abuse of the parliamentary system and two fingers being shown to proper process.

This regime is void of any ‘ethics’, democratic principles, and accountability rules governing civilised governments and societies. Rabuka and his goons lie through their teeth, are untrustworthy and one should not be surprised with any moves they make it, be it deferring elections, forcing the racist elements in the constitution and driving Fiji down to economic ruin.
The recent announcements of the Permanent Secretaries, all i-Taukeis of course, are examples of the continuing arrogance and indifference to any principles or values a government should uphold.
Peter Wise, having been sacked for sexual and predatory actions, is drafted back after lying in wait for a while.
Solo Mara who was charged with financial mismanagement while Ambassador in Washington, was a rewarded with the top job at PIDF. He was later charged with corruption at PIDF which also included installing a solar system, bought as part of an externally funded project, at his villa in Pacific Harbour. He lay in hiatus for a few months and is now appointed to lead our foreign and trade policies including being Fiji’s face at international meetings.
Clearly Rabuka and Rokovada, his chosen chief at PSC, have no shame. They talk about appointees bringing their long experience and unblemished record to public service!
Could Fiji stoop to anything lower than recycling convicted and compromised individuals with the top civil service positions. It is bad enough with Ministers like Tabuya, Radrodro, Charan Singh etc, but now this disease is well entrenched in the civil service.
