What game is the Chief Justice, Salesi Temo, playing? He writes to the DPP, Christopher Pryde, giving him 14 days to respond to a request from the Acting DPP, Nancy Tikoisuva, to suspend Pryde for misbehaviour. Under the constitution, that would, or at least should, result in the setting up of a judicial tribunal to hear the recycled allegations of financial misconduct that Tikoisuva has made against the DPP.
Yet this is what the Chief Justice has told today’s Fiji Sun:
What does this mean? That the Chief Justice isn’t planning to again charge Christopher Pryde with misbehaviour? That he is going to ignore the request from Nancy Tikoisuva to set up a tribunal to investigate the allegations she is making?
Or is the man who kept the DPP waiting for 21 months for justice with the first tribunal that exonerated him, cut off his salary and called him a thief just playing with Christopher Pryde like a cat plays with a doomed mouse? Requiring him to answer a whole lot of allegations that the Judicial Services Commission have already examined and dismissed just to mess with his head and prevent him from resuming his rightful role as DPP?
Once again, the conduct of the state on an issue of vital national importance is scandalous. There is no transparency, no accountability, no explanation. Like mushrooms, we are kept in the dark and fed bullsh*t.
It isn’t just Temo. The Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, is up to his old trick of playing Pontius Pilate and washing his hands of the Pryde matter.
Rabuka still doesn’t seem to understand that the Judicial Services Commission headed by Salesi Temo has sole responsibility for the ODPP. Yet he keeps referring to the Constitutional Offices Commission as if it has some role when it has none, as he has done again in today’s Fiji Times.
We are being hoodwinked by two old fools who shouldn’t be there. They are doing everything possible to prevent Christopher Pryde from returning to resume his role as DPP having been exonerated of misbehaviour and reinstated, as the law prescribes. But they have neither the decency to uphold the law nor any respect for the Fijian people to level with us about what is happening.
Confused by the Pryde saga? Well, here’s what’s happening as far as Grubsheet can determine:
1/ The Chief Justice has written to the DPP giving him 14 days to show cause why he should not accede to the request by Nancy Tikoisuva to suspend him for a second time for misbehaviour and set up another tribunal to hear the recycled allegations against him.
2/ Christopher Pryde has been forced to delay his return to Fiji as he begins the “onerous” task of tracking down documents going back to 2012 to prove his innocence after the extraordinary ordeal he has already faced. And then we have the Chief Justice giving the Fiji Sun a one-liner that “there will no other tribunal”. You mean no other tribunal other than the one you intend to convene for Christopher Pryde? Or no other tribunal for him?
3/ Incredibly, none of it matters. Because the DPP is now under active investigation by the Fiji “Independent” Commission Against Corruption on a complaint by Nancy Tikoisuva to her friend – the FICAC Commissioner, Barbara Malimali -about the same allegations she has taken to the Chief Justice. And this is where things get really sinister.
4/ FICAC is no longer independent. Evidence is emerging that it has been used as a political tool under Malimali and all of this will eventually be exposed. But in the meantime, it has the power to charge Christopher Pryde and send him to trial irrespective of what happens with Salesi Temo and the JSC. And it has the power to prevent him from leaving Fiji with a stop-departure order until that process is complete.
It isn’t about good governance or the urgent need for Christopher Pryde to clean up the debacle at the ODPP and work with the new police leadership team to tackle the shocking breakdown of law and order. It is about thwarting the supreme law and stopping him from being reinstated at all costs. Because they don’t want anybody independent as DPP and they don’t want a white man.
Welcome to Fiji. Where one week, the President and Head of State can reinstate you after judges exonerate you and then a group of mutineers intent on protecting their jobs do the secret bidding of their masters and recycle allegations that have already been dealt with and you face a fresh inquisition.

I stand corrected, I have never seen a person in an acting or actor position USURP for themselves so much power beyond the boundaries/ambit of an ACTING ROLE to:
1. File complaints or charges against the substantive position holder i.e. DPP the substantive and the full, ORIGINAL source of positional authority upon which the acting or actor role (ADPP) is created against/from. A real-life example unfolding, of the Potter and the Clay analogy.
2. Dear Fijians amidst the noise surrounding this matter, ask yourselves as to where does the ADPP draw the authority to file charges against the DPP from? Or put another way and this is the litmus test.If the DPP position is made redundant. Does the ADPP position stand on its own? We all know the answer. The acting or actor position can no longer be offered to any promising candidate as there is no substantive position to be appointed into. This being the reality, logically therefore the ADPP cannot be the chief complainant against the DPP. It lacks decorum, prejudiced lacks logic and form. Never done. The highest threshold of the existence of a conflict of interest alone is obvious for all to see.
3. Please fellow Fijians do not ever think to follow what the acting/actor DPP is doing. When respectfully you are appointed into an acting position this is a sure enough step towards a career move to the next or substantive level. This is the key role or purpose for acting positions and position holders i.e. the determination of one’s fitness to assume a substantive post. Not the opportunity to usurp.
4 In such context i.e. 1,2 and 3 above, fellow and dear Fijians we are indeed being, amidst the process, of being hoodwinked. We are taken for the fools we are not.
Even if the allegations hold water. The very fact that the ADPP is the complainant renders the whole complaint null and void.
The writing is on the wall already i.e. the instigator or complainant will in the end be the scapegoat. The ADPP is but a pawn (the least powerful piece) for Machiavellian minds diligently at work. If the attack instigated via the pawn succeeds fine. If not cut all ties, present the pawn to quell public outcry. Recede into the shadows.
The so-called Fresh charges are untenable. Procedurally unfair and tainted period.

Those seeking to remove Christopher Pryde are driven by the agenda of the current Government – iTaukei is the only race in Fiji that they want in control of Government and its institutions such as ODPP. If people cannot see that they blind!
At the same time the CJ and the Justice Minister are still smarting from having their charges being dismissed by the Tribunal. So the CJ aided by his loyal lackies at the ODPP dredges up new charges against Pryde. Using the same file used by the Tribunal! One can only conclude this isn’t justice. This is revenge.
With regard to the referral to FICAC of alleged acts by Christopher Pryde, it would seem, from media reports, that the same charge put by the CJ to the Tribunal is going to be recycled. If true that would amount to double-jeopardy!
Can someone clarify? The allegation is he paid himself more than his entitlement? If this is the case, I am sure there was a sign off from someone above CP authorising payment. Fiji cannot be that lawless that someone in CP’s position just transfers the money to himself or authorises finance to do so ( and if this happened, someone should have reported him then).
If payment was approved, there may he grounds for allowing it depending on circumstances considering it was authorised. You cannot review/ overturn every administrative decision that was made in the past.
And why is the head of the DPP ( being the acting DPP) doing accounting work, calculating back pay. That’s usually something to be done by the finance team and signed off by a finance director and someone I assume above the DPP role. This certainly is not the acting DPP or am I missing something as I have no actual knowledge of the structure of the ODPP in Fiji.
What surprises and puzzles me about this case so far is to do with those “particularised” allegations (the complaints against Pryde) which he says goes back to 2012 which hasn’t been leaked or made public, by either parties (CP or Justice Temo)? Why? Those might be either some very serious or credible evidence of “smoking gun” or simply a “fishing expendition” by the people at ODPP to gather evidence of some petty malfeasance committed by CP whilst he was employed and thus getting rid of him.
My guess is that the alleged “smoking gun(s)” (particularised complaints) could bring an end to this never ending drama by either Pryde saying they are all a bunch of lies against him and don’t return or Justice Temo discrediting Pryde by publishing those particularised allegations of charges against Pryde thus discrediting him. Yup, the answer lies in the strength or the weakness of in those particularised allegations/complaints (smoking gun) against Pryde!

First of all Nancy can’t ask for a tribunal. She can only file a complaint.
Second, there will only be a tribunal regarding the allegations against the DPP if the President thinks it is required. Well, the chess pieces are in place. Pryde will surely be dismissed this time as the last time the allegation was made, there was a different person at the State House.
The Presisent will follow what his predecessor Konrote did and fire Pryde. Good luck to Pryde fighting his case in Court after that. It will just render him penniless. He should resign, take him money and bid sayonara to Fiji. He is not wanted there anymore and go and write a book about this drama.
