# ANA V BARBARA. AND BOO BOO TO YOU*

Posted on December 15, 2024 12 Comments

The Ana-Barbara showdown reduces the criminal justice system in Fiji to a Hanna Barbera-like cartoon for kids and is highly damaging to public confidence in our institutions of state.

Seriously. How much longer can this go on before the Coalition government brings an end to this sorry farce?

I had planned not to post this weekend but have been sent a copy of the police complaint by the Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa, against the FICAC Commissioner, Barbara Malimali.

As we’ve seen repeatedly, the daily newspapers in Fiji are not in the habit of publishing source documents so you can evaluate the merits of the SOE’s complaint for yourself. But the broader story is front page news in today’s Fiji Times, with the leader of the Unity Party, Savenaca Narube, joining the Opposition leader, Inia Seruiratu, in calling for Malimali’s removal.

Today’s Fiji Times front page….

And what on earth is “Car crash Barbie” on about now. Violence is a “parasite”?

And what has this got to do with corruption? You are completely off your turf. And your rocker.

It is all too much. A blessed Sunday to all.

——–

* A catchphrase of the Hanna Barbera cartoon character, Yogi Bear, to his friend, Boo Boo.

All the gravitas of Sitiveni Rabuka and his Attorney General, Graham Leung, who are allowing this saga to fester.

I see a catfight looming. Just like Paul and Tyson, perhaps these two could let off some steam in a ring?

In the Coalition leadership we have enablers of misconduct, law breaking and getting away with it, corruption and above all poor leadership. No wonder there’s Malimali is holding on. What a shame.

I say again, Rabuka is not a leader. In no way was he ever or will be half of what Bainimarama was. And Biman, he’s a coward. No other word to describe him.

Let the jingle bells ring this Christmas. As we celebrate the birth of Christ, so must we mourn the death of morality in Fiji.

The PM was not aware of this issue between Babara M and Anna M.

He has yet to be ‘officially informed’ and will await a briefing from the AG before deciding.

The PM wishes everyone to keep faith in his Government. We are on your side, he says.

He wishes all and sundry in Fiji a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year.

Why the delay in PM being informed of the so called BM saga?

I see the delay as an excuse as once BM goes down and out, PM and his MPs also go out thus; the delay!

Stop making excuses as we the public have read what is written on the walls as it is very clear and precise!

This is the technological era and we can also distinguish what is true and what is false!

The sad thing is that I’m hard pressed to think of a current Fijian leader who is “smarter than the average bear.”

If corruption and collusion is this rampant and officials have ring fenced and created exception to rules for themselves and their inner circle(s) than Fiji is in bigger trouble than we all thought… unfortunately “gangsters paradise” will become synonymous with destination Fiji and the Fiji government.

It appears that because of the blatant and undeniable conflicts of interest which surround this government , its officials and preferred partners / advisers – that as a result the wheels of justice, consistency of rules and processes as well as urgency of attention placed on these frequent reports of collusion and corruption seem to selectively slow down and most instances appear to have come to a complete halt, or turned a blind eye to all together.

Where is the Prime Minister ? Why isn’t he showing leadership and taking control ? He is looking like an old man who has lost the total plot and just trying to feather his nest for as long as he can ! Is he mentally all there or has he checked out all together ? This is not looking like a leader who has all their mental and professional faculties together … where is the accountability?

The coalition is a government in crisis and the crisis appears to have permeated into the institutions of state and its key office bearers as well.

Does the PM have any ounce of integrity and leadership left in him ?

With the unprecedented mess that we all have to put up with he should just resign and his cabinet should too – because they have proven that they can not manage the country , yet alone themselves . Stop wasting taxpayers time and money – we deserve so much better than this.

Where is the Public Service Commission ? Why haven’t we heard of any disciplinary actions on bad behaving officials or public statements issued on code of conduct and standards of behavior ?

Can it be assumed they are all in it together ? They are all covering up the mistakes , the errors in judgement, the incompetence, the silliness , the lies , the under the table deals and the conflicts of interest which appears to have every last one of them scratching each others backs ?

It looks like there are just lies everywhere
That childhood ryhme .. “liar , liar .. pants on fire”

In the case of Fijj Government and institutes of state it appears Everyone’s pants seem to be on fire.

This is a new all time low for Fiji

Third-rate prime minister, third-rate deputy prime ministers, third-rate ministers and assistant ministers, third-rate permanent secretaries, third-rate appointees in every aspect of life everywhere, third-rate Acting CJ, third-rate people in a Third World country. So what do you expect the final result will be?
    Which bit is not true.

So all the ducks are being lined up for shooting. I will wait and see how Ana and her team will be shot. Barbie girl will laugh the last. Mr Green is assisting set up the stage.
Why will Ana lose out when she is the one with some integrity?? Because Barbie got support from PM and AG. This get not afford justice and truth. They can not afford baimaan got to prison, W. Koto being prosecute, AG exposed without a pair of it, presidenti stripped of position, army komanda being replaced for being biased towards one race, C Pride back as DPP. No that is to much of risk. This is inspite of support from useless, shameless G16 in parliament. They scraped into parliment riding on the back of FB and ASK.
I am sure if Jesus came down on this xmas, Rambo will tell him to go back. If Rambo claims he is the true saviour to save iTaukies from vulagis most of them will agree. Some confused ones will request for advise from GCC.
Go Barbie go, toso, whole govt is behind you!

BREAKING NEWS: Australia issues travel warning for visitors to Fiji stemming from methanol poisoning at a resort on the Coral Coast. Several tourists in hospital in Sigatoka.

    Typo.
Should read ‘stemming from Government poisoning of Law and Order and the Institutions of Government. Several Ministers hospitalised in St Giles Hospital in Suva.’

This is the same resort that bars (pardon the pun) locals from their premises.

Now we can sit back and watch tourist cancellations.

There is indeed a thing called ‘Karma’.

As they say here in Fiji “good luck”.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
