# MISHRA’S MISHMASH

Posted on November 15, 2012 15 Comments

The controversy at the University of the South Pacific over Dr Marc Edge was meant to dissipate when he was stood down as the Head of Journalism and the role was assumed by his immediate superior, the oleaginous Professor Sudesh Mishra. But Professor Mishra has made a mistake that is fatal for any academic of standing - misrepresenting the true … [Read more...] about # MISHRA’S MISHMASH

# OVER THE EDGE

Posted on November 14, 2012 50 Comments

What the cognoscenti in Suva have known for several days was finally revealed in a statement today from the University of the South Pacific - that the head of the USP's School of Journalism, Dr Marc Edge, has been unceremoniously dumped. Dr Edge has been the subject of at least one formal inquiry at USP - with evidently more to come - after … [Read more...] about # OVER THE EDGE

# SUVA, CITY OF DREAMS

Posted on October 28, 2012 103 Comments

A quiet weekend in Suva has got Grubsheet thinking about the state of Fiji’s capital and the city where I was born at ten minutes to midnight far too many moons ago. The reflection stems in part from a couple of days in the company of a childhood friend who I grew up with in Fiji and who now lives in Papua New Guinea. We both recall a splendid city … [Read more...] about # SUVA, CITY OF DREAMS

# VALE A PIONEERING FIJIAN FEMINIST

Posted on October 19, 2012 13 Comments

Many women activists in Fiji will remember Ruth Lechte, one of the founders of the local YWCA and a forthright campaigner on behalf of women's rights and other political causes. She was a formidable personality who also turned her offices on the first floor of the old Suva Town Hall into a campaign headquarters to fight the French nuclear tests in … [Read more...] about # VALE A PIONEERING FIJIAN FEMINIST

# THE SDL FINALLY COMES CLEAN

Posted on October 18, 2012 74 Comments

After all the prevarication, denials and, yes, blatant attempts to deceive, the former governing party, the SDL, finally acknowledged this week what everyone already suspected – that one of its key platforms is the declaration of a Christian state. These people continually treat their fellow Fijians as idiots with the shortest of memories. But who … [Read more...] about # THE SDL FINALLY COMES CLEAN

# SALUTE TO A JOURNALISTIC PIONEER

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
