# COMING SOON…MR SWEET’S* POLITICAL CAREER TURNS SOUR. BUT HIS BATI ARE FIGHTING BACK

Posted on July 3, 2025 14 Comments

Manoa Kamikamica is getting off very lightly so far in the mainstream media in Fiji over the devastating findings against him by the Ashton-Lewis Commission of Inquiry into the Malimali affair. But his once promising political career is dead in the water as the police now investigate him for the alleged corruption exposed in the COI Report.

Mr Sweet is putting on a brave face of business as usual. But he is already being frozen out at the top.

The Prime Minister has not only chosen to exclude the Trade Minister from the delegation of ministers that have accompanied him on his Australian visit when trade would normally be a top priority. In his absence, Sitiveni Rabuka has pointedly withheld the position of acting prime minister from Kamikamica and given it to Viliame Gavoka – the sole Deputy Prime Minister untouched by scandal.

Biman Prasad is also being investigated by the CID on the same allegations that FICAC decided warranted him being charged with abuse of office before a posse spearheaded by the Chief Justice, Salesi Temo, moved in last September 5, removed the former deputy commissioner, Francis Puleiwai, and quashed the charge.

Manoa Kamikamica is in big trouble. And Grubsheet will be examining why in an upcoming article. But in the meantime, Mr Sweet and his forces are fighting back.

The Deputy Prime Minister has already launched a personal attack on me – falsely branding me an alcoholic – for previously reporting that his conduct makes him unfit to succeed Rabuka as prime minister. And that was before the Ashton-Lewis findings.

Now his storm troopers are also being marshaled, attacking not only Grubsheet but the Prime Minister. Not a great tactic for an heir presumptive and hardly likely to persuade Rabuka to meekly go.

With friends like these, as the old saying goes.

Charming stuff.

Soon, the “white boy” will be outlining the case against Mr Not-so-Sweet.

Stay with us, as the mighty Vijay is fond of saying.

* Kamikamica means “sweet” in the Fijian language. Bati are a chief’s warriors.

Imagine if Don LaFontaine would have used his voice to advertise Grubsheet articles.
“coming soon” voice was one of its kind.

The media are laying off Manoa for two main reasons: one is because they are dumb and another is because they are being paid by the current government.

Why bite the hand that feeds you?

Stanley Simpson, who is Manoa’s personal friend, has been bought off as well. We in the media industry are questioning how the government allocation for Mai TV was bigger than for Fiji Television, which is a bigger media company, much older, employees, more people, and which is actually producing news. It is Stanley’s connection with Manoa.

Not only is Stanley a mediocre journalist but a corrupt bastard as well.

He is also the President of the Fiji Media Association. No wonder the media industry is in such a shitty state.

Stanley S is the most useless journalist ever. Full stop. A man who is a leech, like his kailoma family in Savusavu.

Even his own are turning a blind eye to him now on his FB page. Smarter people can see right through his corruption.

Oh dear 😳. The message from “Pure Fiji ” is vile and not surprising. Thuggery is the currency in fiji.

Let’s call out the police investigation for what it is and not put too much hope in it…they are most likely to conclude insufficient evidence in consultation with DPP. The only achievement of the CoI report is reputational damage.

The PM and his delegation’s official visit to Australia is a junket to watch the Wallabies v Fiji match in Newcastle on Saturday. Everything else is just window dressing to justify travel allowances while the average Fijian struggles to buy daily bread.

The PM’s performance at the Press Club address was mediocre at best and vain. He failed to articulate his strategic long term vision for the prosperity of Fiji. Rather, with his begging bowl he was selling labour that extends from PALM workers to ADF to professionals (now that their ex students loans are gratis). So Fiji’s vision of revenue is remittances. But who will keep the home fires burning?

Fijians should be concerned about the performance of the PM. He could not remember questions, did not understand what was being asked let alone provide coherent responses. So much so that journalists in the room appeared to not bother asking hard hitting questions. It seems that PM has lost his faculties. See for yourself https://youtu.be/JFFSQpv-ihM?si=FPvHOgtRzea-daxV.

What a mess in Fiji! Should it start thinking of ceding again?

C’mon White Boy….Mae na mae time…the challenge is on. Dig up as much shit as you can to bury Sweetums and DD Baimaan. There is no time than now. Maybe opportunity awaits WB for the wide open corruption in increasing amounts of public moolah for Gandhi Ganesh and his cronies living it up in fancy branded diploma mills at Pacific Polytechs all around Fiji. HECF and FICAC needs to be mobilised. What say Alex Forwood?

Graham, if look at the media in Fiji, no-one is following what this racist government is up to and there is no political commentary as well 🙄 to ask and follow up with the questions. So sad. Fiji going downwards every single day 😢

In fact, it is shocking, shocking that no Fiji media representative went with the delegation to cover the entire visit-including rugby, the Lions in Canberra and Wallabies in Newcastle. Freebies for all.

      Go Wallabies!

I think what is happening in Fiji is Kai idia and Kaiviti’s way.
Last 30 years that’s how Fiji has gone to another level.
Drugs, corruption, lasa tuba, crime, festivals, rugby, rain ,wind and sunshine.
    Rich,average, poor and beggars.
Bai was in Australia and got VIP service and same goes for Siti.
    I don’t see any difference.
    That’s the way system works.
You can’t fight against the system, just live with it.

Having watched the the National Press Club’s invitation to Rabuka, Australian journalists know nothing about what is really going on in Fiji.

No questions about ethno-nationalism/supremism, the CoI report etc. was put to Rabuka for answers.

One idiot even ventured to ask him about introducing AFL in Fiji !!. Rabuka replied to that question with big grin on his face.

And that was confirmation that his visit to Australia was in the main to watch the Fiji vs Wallabies rugby game on Sunday!! (No Sunday ban here for the hypocrite).

Rabuka had his military madmen coupist’s entourage in attendance at the NPC…all sitting there with the Australian journalist’s…and no hard questions asked.

Mr Davis – you need to take criticism when it’s given. The crap COI report is just a document with findings that may or may not be investigated. You seem to think the findings are true and tested in court- it’s not. Police may investigate and guess what, nothing will happen. Pure Fijian is stating the facts – there is not much you or your fiji first contributors can do about it – Manoa will be PM one day and our people will elect him. His silence is not acceptance of guilt but rather a common sense approach not to give oxygen to your misguided stories about him and his family. We will collectively ensure that Manoa wins this fight – Vinaka

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
