# COMING SOON. WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW ABOUT RABUKA’S ROLE IN 2000. BUT WILL HE TELLS US THE WHOLE TRUTH?

Posted on October 6, 2024 37 Comments

The plans for a Truth and Reconciliation Commission hide an uncomfortable fact – that many people involved in the events of 1987, 2000 and 2006 don’t want the truth revealed at all. Because it would expose a whole lot of hitherto secret agendas and unmask some of the plotters who have yet to be unmasked.

Coming soon, the precise details of what is so far on the public record about Sitiveni Rabuka‘s role in the mutiny in the RFMF in November 2000. As we’ll see, even what is available is an astonishing account in itself. But it begs the question as to whether a quarter of a century on, the Prime Minister will finally tell us all precisely what he was doing or whether the actual truth will remain concealed behind a whitewash.

But first, it is Grubsheet’s birthday and I am taking Monday off. A qase levu and relic of Viti Makawa heading for the twilight of my life. But still young enough to ask the hard questions and cause a great deal of trouble. Back on Tuesday.

Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? No, we didn’t think so.

Vinaka. The Qase Levulevu is the Cream Puff up at the Big House biting his nails waiting to see if he will get another term. And who says I haven’t started my own church? Everyone else is. 😉

    Happy Birthday Graham!

Thanks for being the go-to media outlet as our local journos shed tears but continue with the years since 2006. Wonder then what were the key experiences shared by Fijian journalists (following “13-14 years of working under media legislation” as a PINA official says) at the 7th Pacific Media Summit held in Niue 2 weeks ago. Perhaps, more fears and tears?

Rabuka and his cadre of f**k-wits are scrambling for the fail-safe PR countermeasures, while the rest of us are salivating at the scoop.

The scoop that RABUKA doesn’t want to relive. The adult diaper moment under the pool table.

Digressing a bit, Happy Birthday slugger.

    Happy Birthday, GD!
Thank you once again for your invaluable service to Fiji. Your contributions are not only thoroughly researched and evidence-based but also strike a delicate balance—culturally sensitive, yet adhering to the highest standards of objective journalism. Your work is a testament to professionalism, and we deeply appreciate it. Wishing both you and GS many, many happy returns of the day!

The majority of us stand firmly with you and your powerful pen. Your voice is the much-needed beacon, providing a platform for us all—an essential pillar of our democracy.

On another note, there are growing concerns that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission may become yet another tool to deceive the world. For it to serve its true purpose, the injustices inflicted on our country must be fully exposed, and the perpetrators held accountable. A genuine commission would require a root-and-branch investigation, demanding public admissions of guilt. Expectations are high, and we must ensure that the best possible outcomes are delivered. Our people deserve nothing less.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
