So sewage – raw excrement – has leaked into the operating theatres of the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva and patients there have died, according to a truly shocking report in the Fiji Sun.
Grubsheet can scarcely believe that the place where I was born and later got my teeth straightened (sort of ) by a kindly British orthodontist in Viti makawa is now not a vale ni bula – a house of wellness – but a vale ni mate – a house of death.
The greatest travesty of all is that Fijians who have money can afford to get treatment overseas or at the increasing number of private hospitals where money speaks. While the nation’s low income earners are at the mercy of a substandard health system in which the chances of recovery are increasingly akin to a game of Russian Roulette.
Maybe you’ll survive, maybe you won’t. But the rich in Fiji will always have a better chance of survival. And so will the governing elite, who will be taken care of at the taxpayer’s expense in Australia, New Zealand, India, China or anywhere else that has better facilities and expertise than Fiji.
Shame on the Coalition government that promised so much and has delivered so little. Shame on its predecessors for not making the investment in the CWM that ordinary Fijians deserved. Shame on every politician and the supine Fijian media for uncomplainingly accepting this two-tier system of healthcare and the appalling obscenity of one standard for the rich and privileged and one for the poor.
This government is sick. The whole system is sick. And sh*t literally seeping into the operating theatres at CWM tells us – as if we didn’t already know – that the nation as a whole has gone to sh*t.

The following is from someone who has done more than anyone else to try to maintain standards at CWM.
Judy Compain deserves our thanks for what she and her fellow volunteers have done over the years. Because we can only imagine how much worse conditions would be without their efforts.

Oh, and pay the money back, you double-dipping amoral Piece of Sh*t.

PS. And if you think that’s “brutal”, wait till the election campaign.

GD, this woman owns kalabu and quite a few other people as well.
No matter what we think she will be back in parliament and a minister in the next government – she has a history of jumping ship.
As for the shit seeping into the operating theatres? Perhaps junior Pedo has left his mouth open too long.
While there is a revolving door of the influential and wealthy getting good medical treatment overseas for themselves or their family and not in Fiji , improvements to health services will have no urgency because they are not personally invested in Fiji’s public health services.
One can only feel for health workers who front up every day to work under disgusting conditions and patients who live in hope that a government will actually care about them enough to fix the chronic problems .
This is indeed news, and a really sad one too for our country and people. But don’t worry as we can be sure someone will still blame the weather, the past government, or the alignment of the stars.
Look back over last 3 years- when has anyone from this Govt taken responsibility for the mess? Meanwhile, real people wait. Real lives are affected.
Leadership isn’t about excuses…..it’s about fixing the mess.
At this point, the sewage isn’t the only thing overflowing. So are the excuses. 💩🇫🇯
I understand the Australian government contributed millions of dollars to upgrade CWM Hospital, yet it’s unclear where that funding has gone.
The current coalition government appears disconnected from the struggles of ordinary Fijians. Instead of prioritizing healthcare and essential services, their focus seems to be on inflated salaries, frequent overseas travel and generous allowances.
It’s deeply concerning that in a small nation like Fiji, there are over 40 Ministers and Assistant Ministers—an excessive number by any standard. Despite this bloated structure and questionable spending, the Prime Minister continues to defend the size of the cabinet and the frequency of international trips.
One has to ask: where are the results for the people? We must continue to hope and pray for the future of our beloved Fiji.
Such things would not have happened in colonial times.
Fiji wallowing in shit. It’s the product of shit leaders— Rabaku, Manoa, Bill, Baiman, Lynda— the shit in CWM theaters is representative of your shitty leadership. You are all Tatti or Peka. Go and down yourselves in a bucket of shit.
What a disgrace.
I can remember that hospital in the 1950s and ‘60s. It was so clean you could eat your meal off the floor.
This hospital is the front line of everything and on which history will pass judgement.
No excuses, fire the minister and keep firing them until one of them fixes it.
Use the money you save on their ministerial salaries to pay for whatever needs to be done.
And Rolex Rambo thinks the $200K spent on his chief – the pedo President’s – world tour is money well spent. Yet the hospitals are turning into shit.
Heaven help us.
As much as we should not trivialize this shitty situation, one cannot ignore the fact that this government has been an utter and abject failure, never before seen in Fiji.
How far we have fallen as a country.
One cannot however, ignore that Baiman and Sweet Manoa are largely responsible for the dire situation-they both must stop talking shit and please stop shitting your pants about the FICAC charges.
It is beginning to spill over guys! Stop your BS!
It’s the process of De-Colonisation. That’s #1 on the nationalists agenda isn’t it to put everything right in Fiji.
It wouldn’t be off the mark to suggest that some, or most of Australian funds for upgrade of the CWM Hospital have been used for other government purposes. Wouldn’t put it past these rogues whose equal priority #1 is to enrich themselves and clock up as much air miles, sightseeing and free chow as possible while electoral campaigning.
Donor govts and agencies need more stringent financial controls/accountability on how funds are used and compliance with the intended use of the funding assistance. As a responsibility to their own taxpayers as well as to the recipient population. But that could possibly be a hard task while enjoying the south seas tropical lifestyle as demi-gods and pleasing their hosts in local high society.
Funds for hospital upgrades should be used exclusively for that – not lost and misappropriated in the Govt’s consolidated accounts which is the big bucket money goes in and then out .

While the above salient points have been well made, there is but a one word answer for the weak, half-assed scrutiny by donors after the disbursement of funds: China.
All donor partners have one aim, which is to keep China out of the Pacific
Perhaps a little late in the day for all donor partners, as demonstrated emphatically recently by PNG, Vanuatu, Solomons just prior to Forum gathering in Honiara.
Much to Albo’s chargrin, shock, and embarrassment, these nations balked at signing Ablo’s ‘negotiated’ defence pacts.
The pacts were solely designed to keep China out but forced Albo to down play the refusals to sign saying there will be more discussions. Red faces aplenty.
Donor partners all coordinate amongst themselves to work in concert to dangle carrot$ in the Pacific. In exchange, the donors will look the other way as recipient states continue on their usual corrupt, incompetent, and shambolic governance, and spend the money as they wish. No accountability required nor expected by donors.
And the Pacific islands states know well these bribes will never stop.
As long as China is kept at arms length by the Pacific states. Alas, for the donors, China is now far too wealthy and has contributed far too much development assistance to be kept out completely.
When the gravy train turns into a shitstorm.
#ShitiveniRabuka.
Hey, let’s send all the government ministers overseas on fat per diems so that they can advocate for good health from there.
Also Fijian voters enjoy noodles while the bastards in parliament loot the country to death. Vinaka Rabuka, Biman and Tabuya.
The buck stops with the Prime Minister. But he is too full of himself. He loves to alight from his brand new taxpayer-funded Landcruiser to be welcomed in traditional ceremony with his natives seated at his feet. He’s still living in the 1960s-70s. All he cares about is his pomp and ceremony, traditional welcomes, basking in adulation, showing off his medals but delivering shit — literally.
But a shit PM will deliver shit after all.
Rabaku is the servant of the owners of Fiji Water, the GCC, his paramount chief the president, Lynda Tabuya, Australia, the US, China and business interests. His voters and the taxpayers of Fiji are the last on his list.
He just milks taxpayers to the hilt through his equally stupid and self serving former finance minister Baiman Prasad, the 15% vat genius. All talk before the election, no action after elections. The two shits are heads and tatti falas.
The voters must bury Rabaku and Baiman in their own shit next election or they have only themselves to blame.
Jeez ! And look at this, the Minister is immediately deflecting by talking about “the purchase of a mammogram machine” and “pilot programmes for Pap-smears”.
WTF! I know you’ve been telling us for years GD, but has the place really gone mad this time? Hey Mr Minister of Health, we are talking here of raw sewage in your operating theatres, you know, the kind that spreads bacteria and kills patients .. and staff alike.
And you are talking about a new toy you bought, or likely donated by another overseas government to the beggar Fiji Government because all your money went into 50% pay rises for your gang and party time in Australia for Independence Day in Fiji or even reimbursing Ministers for expenses they never made. And the Minister of Finance, to appease his bosses, never budgeted for repairs to the old lady CWM where I too was born.
But then he wouldn’t know would he, because he’s from Labasa.
Who cares about SHIT in operating theatres when we got a new mammogram machine coming next year.
Who gives a SHIT about people dying due to lack of basic health care. At least our minsters get to spend Fiji Day overseas on tax payer funding and our Pedophile President gets a world tour.
Who gives a SHIT?
Is the PM here or has he left for Japan?
