# GOVERNED BY THE GREEDY AND MORALLY CORRUPT

Posted on May 24, 2024 21 Comments

Whoopie! A big “up yours”, Fiji. On a new salary of $200,000 a year plus perks.

So Parliament has approved the motion introduced by the Minister for Bonking and Weed, Lynda Tabuya, for the nation’s fat cat MPs to receive unprecedented salary increases and allowances that will cost the taxpayer millions when an estimated third of the country lives in poverty and struggles to put food on the table.

40 MPs voted for the motion to increase their salaries and allowances on Friday evening, 7 MPs voted against and 5 abstained. The NFP opposed the motion but Biman Prasad couldn’t hold back the tide of greed and self interest. ( see below for how the bastards voted. A lot more on this to come).

Lynda Tabuya – the Queen of Tarts – enters Fijian parliamentary history as someone with no conscience and no moral compass. She should know the daily struggles of many of the nation’s mothers to clothe and feed their children. But the multimillionaire fashion plate, adulteress and drug user doesn’t give a damn. Nor does she care that by voting for unconscionable pay increases, our MPs are triggering a wages explosion in which every other sector of the economy is going to demand more and which will destroy the Fijian economy. (see our previous posting).

Greedy and corrupt. Both of them.

Grubsheet can scarcely believe that with the honourable exception of the NFP, the nation’s political parties have acted with such appalling self interest and with total disregard for the common good. Where was the Prime Minister’s leadership on this issue? Non existent to the point of wickedness.

One of the blackest days in Fiji’s political history. The only saving grace is that the pubic backlash against this orgy of self indulgence and self interest is going to be white hot. And these self-serving bastards will eventually pay for their greed as soon as an election is called.

The PM looks madua today as well he should. Decrepit and operating in a complete moral vacuum.

Social media has erupted in the wake of the vote.

How the bastards voted. You know what to do, Fiji. The cold shoulder and expressions of disgust to their faces. Followed by the boot.

Funny, the merit of this idea stems from comparison of minister salaries to Permanent Secretaries. PS are recruited into the system and they have qualifications to match the job they will undertake. They are interviewed, go through an extensive process competing with candidates who are equally capable. They have and are part of a performance evaluation process and can be fired if it’s a case of underperformance/ incompetence.

Has happened a few times already!

These ass showing, drug taking, cheating, corrupt ministers were part of political parties who form a government with qualifications or experience that do not reflect the requirements of the job for everyone in cabinet. They are elected and not recruited into parliament. Apart from a few with actual degrees and masters (credentials that are actually notable) some probably are dependent on their PS to do all the work of the Ministry.

How do you justify paying someone $200k FJD for work for which there’s absolutely no accountability and no performance evaluation and zero governance???

Where’s the benchmark on achievements to date of this government to show performance in line with salary increases??

Fijians .. this is daylight robbery!! They smile at you, and are picking your pockets. Please stop being stupid!

Your hard earned income, of which tax is on average 5-10% or more, will now be used to pay for incompetent, self serving politicians.

March on the streets, ROAR, demand for a change, an actual change, fire these clowns!!! Bring them down before you are brought down.

    This Coalition needs to burn!

Obviously nationwide Public Consultation on the remuneration “adjustments” would have been a waste of time and may not have had the desired outcomes!
Doesn’t the govt beat loud drums about listening and consulting the “people” on matters of public interest.
On the bright side the increases weren’t backdated and the MPs and executives who have benefitted have a couple of months to salivate on how they will spend the extra perks before they come into effect.
Not sure if the adjustments are effective from 1st August to Dec 31 or without end. Or is there to be a further review in the next year .

Time to spare a prayer for Biman

First tricked by advisors to make laughable tax decisions heaping misery on poor while giving the super rich tax holidays – making Fiji international laughing stock

Now tricked by PAP as plan all along was $ for a few

Biman is now a lamb chop on a skewer being roasted from both ends

Disappointing that PAP, FFP and SODELPA did not oppose this but voted themselves this increase. I f you listen to Inia Seruiratu on the floor, he was all over the map going on and on and mumbling blaming this as a Government initiative in which his party fully participated but he made it seem like it was not their making yet he did not have the balls to say clearly if he supported or opposed this only saying that he declares his interest.
The PM and Leader of Opposition failed big time on this .

Perhaps the increase was needed especially for opposition MPs who made a mere $50k a year for all the work they do but the timing was all wrong and the huge increase certainly not justified.
The optics does not look good and FFP, PAP, SPDELPA have failed, kudos to NFP for opposing

Will be interesting to see what impact this will have on the new national minimum wage.

Day of shame for Fiji’s Parliament.
Interesting that no one from opposition had the guts to stand up and speak on this issue and oppose this but left it to the Leader of Opposition to speak on their behalf.

Where was Koya, Usamate on this as they always seem to be trigger happy on all other issues but silent on this.

Biman and team NFP the only ones who hold the moral high ground on this.

Governance was thrown out of the door yesterday.

The 1984,wage freeze by then Ratu Mara’s Alliance Government saw the birth of Fiji Labour Party which went to gain a lot of success ( far cry from what the FLP is today) , will this be the impetus towards the formation of a new party under a young and able leadership, but who??

Let us all who voted for change celebrate tonight for the change left in our pockets ring louder than the bundles of notes in in the pockets of our parliamentarians.

This is a win of epic proportions and we as Fijians deserve no less. We are and will always be dumb idiots.

We will let the racist and the ethnonationalists politicians divide us and then crush us as they did today. We should salute our stupidity.

They made the itaukei hate the Indians. Now there is exodus of biblical proportion happening in Fiji. Next time when you go to hospital, dont forget to thank Rabuka and Lynda when no nurse is there.

They put the most loved PM in prison and now they know they got the elections office under their control as well.

They will win the next election as well. They know it. The confidence in them is clear.

Let us all Fijians celebrate the change with the coins left in our pockets for we are dumb as dumb can get.

Should have sacked Tabuya and Rodrodro.
How long is everyone going to wait to say NO, enough is enough.
You saw the lack of integrity, and self serving nature but didn’t PROTEST when they were bonking and doing drugs in RM 233.
The PM brought them back and nobody did anything. How sick is Fiji when this can even happen.
They had shown their true nature, lack of shame and morals and they were allowed to continue on.
Only Grubsheet exposed this and Cam Slater. Nobody else did anything!
How far will Fiji go down until the people have had enough.
Everyone has to be held accountable to someone , even the PM.
Better late than never, hopefully people will wake up before the nation is no longer. It’s unthinkable to give a pay raise when on the verge of collapse. these antics and lack of priority will erode all. Get a competent police force asap… get military trained people to move into polite force OR do something!! You need competent people. If there are none then you must train them. This is what should be happening not pay raises.

Sickening, pure & simple greed! Those salaries would be appropriate if the country had abundant mining wealth, & no poverty, which is sadly far from reality. Now we await for those well recompensed parliamentarians to offer a portion of their new income to the needy… but I’m not holding my breath ????

The arrogance of the Government and opposition is breathtaking! If the opposition had voted with the NFP the proposed increases would have been rejected, as they should have been.

The majority of Parliamentarians have no spine or is it they are ruled by money?

Why was it passed so quickly with almost no debate? Because it was the last sitting day prior to the budget. Why is that important? Being passed means it will be within the budget and so the actual costs will be buried in the allocation to Parliament.

Had it not been done yesterday it would have been a seperate item and costs would be known.

Meanwhile the average wage worker struggles on as inflation climbing to 7.1% and the price of commodities continue to rise. Do those in Parliament care? It would appear not!

Biman is laughing all the way to the bank! His got NFP to vote against the pay rise because he doesn’t need those peanuts ! His getting about $50 million to go to Polytech in the next budget to be past next month!

He wants to look clean hence they opposed the pay rise when in fact he is the biggest crook. Why bother with a few thousands more when he is a millionaire through privately owned Polytech being owned by his private friends Ganesh Chand and others.

All corrupt ! Frank must be sobbing in prison !

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
