# HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! TO BIOLOGICAL FATHERS AND STAND-INS ALIKE

A special shout-out to all Grubsheet readers who are fathers or anyone who is acting as a surrogate father to any young person, whether it is grandparents, uncles or extended family or friends.

God knows our kids need positive role models more than ever in these challenging times. And this is a day to celebrate your role in making a difference and reflect on what it means to set an example to your own children and those around them who may not have father figures in their own lives.

I don’t know about you but being a parent was both the most challenging thing I’ve ever done and the most satisfying. I have three sons after my own father had three sons and his father – my grandfather – had three sons as well. So the civilising influence of women has always come from outside.

Will any of these guys follow the family tradition? They’d better get a move on because there are still no grandchildren in sight. They’re clearly having far too good a time.

From left to right, Myles, Luke, their wayward Dad and Tom.

A blessed Father’s Day to all.

—————-

And a reminder that Father’s Day isn’t just about fathers these days but other role models and mentors, who are often filling in when biological fathers aren’t or can’t be present in their children’s lives.

    Happy Fathers’ Day all.

ps Today’s ABC headline could equally apply to Fiji.

“The roots of Indonesians’ fury with their political elite run deep.

The recent protests across Indonesia, and across the globe, wasn’t just sparked by public outrage over the generous perks awarded to MPs — but from deeper-rooted problems with the country’s democratic system;”

This is quite relevant for Fiji. Hopefully GD in his inimitable style will pen a comparative analysis. It will give our greedy and self serving ministers something to chew and choke on, and may also inspire and empower the masses to take stronger action to keep the bastards honest.

Happy, happy, happy Father’s Day to you dear Graham!🎉. This is one of the best posts I’ve seen on your page in a long time.

I don’t always agree with you re politics in our country but I admire your tenacity and dedication in keeping the tab and spotlight on Fiji’s affairs from afar.

Thank you for celebrating “fatherhood” on your page which I think needs emphasis a whole lot more particularly in this day & age with the many challenges that mothers face in raising a family.

As the wise say, “everything starts with the family” as a happy family means happier children, which leads to a happy, stable and healthy society/nation. In other words, if you want to destroy a country, destroy the family… as that is the primary building block of society.

One just needs to look at the kids and young adults on the streets here in Fiji: homeless, sniffing glue, doing drugs and engaging in all kinds of petty crimes to survive.

The family is “sacrosanct”and ought to be respected and defended esp. by the fathers, as heads of the family.

Fathers need to learn and understand the deeper meaning of the critical role that they play in a family! Gird up your loins, pick up your blerry damn cross and raise your family well!

Narcissistic, corrupt and selfish clowns should never be allowed to wreck families, as more often than not it’s always the mother who has to pick up the pieces of their broken family and raise the kids on their own.

The cries of innocent, vulnerable children and young teens of a broken family rises to the heavens! And when all is said and done, selfish fathers and family-wreckers alike will have to account for their misdeeds and their roles in contributing to a dysfunctional society.

For today though, we celebrate our hero, courageous, faithful dads who stuck it through thick and thin for their families. May God bless you all abundantly on this Sunday.🏋️‍♀️💐

    Happy Fathers Day, Graham!

Thanks for continually exposing those dreadful fathers and grandfathers (and mothers too) in Cabinet, including the PM who has landed in Honiara together with his new Information Minister. And after that, both travel again as part of the Group of 17.

Wishing you the best with becoming a grandfather during election year, 2026, at the earliest!

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
