Like a pouting drama queen who told everyone she didn’t want flowers for her birthday and then complains that she didn’t get any, the Attorney General, Graham Everett Leung, complains that the Malimali Commission of Inquiry didn’t send him the advice from the New Zealand King’s Counsel, Professor Philip Joseph, that Barbara Malimali can be suspended when he specifically said he wasn’t interested.
What game is the AG playing? After all, it is Leung’s job as the government’s chief legal advisor to have given the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, the same advice.
1/ Is he madua – embarrassed – that he was ignorant of the law and that it took a foreign expert to tell the PM that the Constitution allowed him to suspend the FICAC Commissioner when the Chief Justice, Salesi Temo, said he couldn’t?
2/Or is he madua that he knew the true position all along but was too lamusona – scared – to contravene the mercurial CJ or give the Prime Minister advice that wouldn’t be welcome?
Either way, it is a farce for Graham Leung to pretend that he hasn’t seen Philip Joseph KC’s advice because Justice David Ashton-Lewis and the COI’s Counsel Assisting, Janet Mason, haven’t sent it to him. Grubsheet first published it two weeks ago on February 19 and it has been in other forums since.
I’ve since published it again and because Graham Leung is so damn thick – or wants to keeping pretending he hasn’t read it – we’re going to do so for a third time below so that he can stop playing the jilted lover and start taking notice of his constitutional responsibility. Which is to advise the Prime Minister that he has the power to suspend Barbara Malimali – as Professor Joseph makes clear – and get on with it.
Seriously. Leung was portrayed as a “new broom” who would restore integrity to the criminal justice system after the removal of his predecessor as AG – the Grinning Assassin and all round hooligan, Siromi Turaga. Yet as Grubsheet has had cause to remark before, that broom is as bereft of bristles as the hair on Mr Tasi Pori‘s head.
Everett – as his old mates know him – is a huge disappointment, even for those who grew up in the law with him and thought he had integrity. Instead, he has remained silent as all kinds of travesties – including the ODPP debacle – have been perpetrated by the rogue Chief Justice and his drink-driving matanivanua, the seriously dumb Chief Registrar, Tomasi Bainivalu.
As a former Australian prime minister, Paul Keating, said about one of his opponents: Graham Leung is a “shiver looking for a spine to run up”. A national embarrassment.

Oi, Dopey. Here it is again! And it has been since February 19. Read it. You might learn something. Or perhaps you already know but are like the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz – trembling under your desk at Suvavou House without the courage to confront the PM and the Chief Justice.

Scary, huh, Everett? Aren’t you supposed to have had the brains to recommend all this yourself? And now that you’ve been told the true position, the courage to remind the Prime Minister of his responsibilities?

Just shows how entangled this whole mess is. AG was also the referee for Malimali, let’s not forget. Him and Vosarogo.
So they are all part of the game and the fraud that is unfolding. The plot just gets worse and smart Mason keeps running it on his fat face.
These lot are not incompetent. They are the epitome of corruption.
The Attorney General, Graham Everett Leung is merely mimicking his political master, the spineless PM.
The PM’s code of conduct is: “I am not aware; I have not been informed; I don’t have an official document or Noone has advised me”
And so the Attorney General has adopted the same code of conduct and acts accordingly. He therefore avoids, just like the PM. Essentially keep my eyes and ears shut and I can deny.
Part of the mantra of this Government to avoid making hard decisions at all costs! Delay at all costs and then blame others when caught!
As to confronting the PM and the Chief Justice on suspending Barbara Malimali , not a chance! GD your comment on Graham Leung is a “shiver looking for a spine to run up” is very apt.
Sorry both of you, that comment was first made in the NZ Parliament in the 70s by then Nationals leader Rob Muldoon in reference to the leader of the Labour Party, Bill Rowling.
Keating merely copied it verbatim.
I know, I was there. Hang on, “I have the means” to know. lol.
What’s the point of having an AG when simple advice has to come from overseas lawyers?
Because the local ‘advisers’ are dumb and bereft of intricate legal knowledge ??
Dua na tamata lamu lamu. He was against the appointment of Temo as CJ, as was his morally dubious friend Imrana Jalal. At least Imrana had the spine to speak out. This guy meekly stood by and did nothing.
Leung has zero clout and the big wigs in Government pay him no regard. Even SG Ropate Green cares little for Leung and his non-existent authority. Leung is a downgrade to the previous AG by a mile.
The guy is a want-to-be ethno-nationalist racist known for his anti IndoFijian diatribes.
Problem is, he is not an iTaukei, yet, is fully complicit in aiding and abetting Rabuka’s game vis-a-vis the COI.
Big time failure as an Attorney General because of his biased stance.
I think the second “madua” applies to him.
He deserves a new nickname. “Jellyfish”.
And his big ego that he expected to be directly sent the report, when it has been available publicly for almost 2 weeks.
A common trait with people of position in Fiji. Ego much bigger than their brains.
I think he is both and more.
Imagine an unelected A-G, appointed by a well known dickhead prime minister, talking about changing the Constitution as if he is a legitimate person who has the power to say these things. He says the Constitution was imposed. And who imposed a corrupt idiot like you on us? We do not want you either and you should be thrown out as well, I believe.
I say to this dumbo -, stand in the next election, get elected properly, become legitimate and then open your mouth. At the moment your words are that of some dickhead who should be ruling in a country in Africa.
So f*ck off please.
We all know that like many of our Ministers and MPs, these guys can be bought off cheaply. Remember how Biman Prasad, who has been bought off at record low whole-sale price by coupist Rabuka, paid for Leung to be part of the COP29 junket to Baku. Clearly a reward not to have him (BCP) charged by FICAC and continue to shelter under Malimali’s stinking skirt.
Leung, like Biman Prasad, is being used by Rabuka to peddle his ethno-nationalist and racist agenda. GL has nothing to lose as he was hand-picked for the role and his TOR must be to show shameless allegiance to Rabuka. Biman has lost it already and is now claiming he doesn’t give a f… to the Indo-Fijians as he was voted in by i Taukeis. It is hardly surprising the positions these selfish, unethical and shameless individuals are taking.
It is all about survival. Principles, democracy and ethics have no place in their actions.
He’s acting devious but in actual fact he’s more dumb.
A reject of the Pacific legal community hired by coalition coz he’s good at sucking n licking.
Is this ‘falla’ related to that ‘falla’ who walks around in a white cape carrying a crooked stick? Looks suspiciously like him. If this falla is as terrible at his job as you allude to GD, then what about that other falla?
That ‘falla’ with the crooked stick recently came out of hibernation and said pornography was bad for everyone but forgot to mention drugs, alcohol, robberies, bashings, snatching, pedophilia, incest, etc rampant in his diocese of Fiji.
Is that because he is very conversant with the topic, is friends with the Queen of Tarts or did he go to the same institution of higher learning as the first falla?
Can these Coalition stooges embarrass themselves even more? I wonder if they wake up every morning and say, what should I do to embarrass myself or the Coalition today and make myself look like an idiot?
Everyone knows they stuffed up big time here. Admit it and fix it!! Do your job we pay you to!
Compared with the previous regime, at least they were bold and strong with their responses. Right or wrong is questionable though!!
Incompetent is the more fitting answer and he isn’t fit to be AG. It’s obvious that he ain’t the brightest star that people thought he was. It also explains why he didn’t last long in other Pac Islands where he took up work.
This guy is an embarrassment and should have stuck to his private practice. Or better yet, dressed in a suit, hat, and walking stick, his true calling is in the profession of a PIMP – pimping for the Coalition and their biaaatches.
Beggars belief how inept and incapable this AG when compared to the previous FFP AG. Granted, the previous bloke has his fair share of issues he’s currently going through the courts with, Leung is about as useful as a sea cucumber that’s consumed Viagra.
It’s disgraceful to see the judiciary has become so heavily politicized and rife with corruption when it was once seen as a dignified and independent institution which held people to account for their actions.
Today, it has become the breeding ground for curs, rabble, harlots and brigands.
DO we do have any quality lawyers in fiji left?
Apparently Attorney General, Graham Everett Leung is qauri and had a fling with “Johnny (Rabuka) come lately “in Nauru. Outside working hours one assumes.
Then we have lawyer Barbie doll who is banned from practicing in tavulu for allegedly bonking the judge in her court case.
Is there lawyer left we can trust? Isa please pray for our beloved Fiji in the coming 1.5yrs.
In order for the devious to stay at the top in the Civil Service they have to play dumb..
Look at the timing of his statement, when the COI has stopped collecting evidence.
AG go and fool the bunch of crooks “ the GCC members”. The public are now more educated.
