# KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON. BECAUSE AT LEAST THE ITAUKEI ARE NOW FIGHTING EACH OTHER AND NOT THE REST OF US

Why would the Prime Minister call for calm while refusing to rule out the abolition of the secular state that would establish the primacy of Christianity and marginalise other religions? It isn’t as if Hindus and Muslims have taken to the streets to demand the right to equal treatment by the state – something they have enjoyed for a decade – but which Sitiveni Rabuka wants to take away.

Rabuka is doing so because he is pressing the very same buttons he pressed 38 years ago when he used the minorities as a scapegoat for his rape of democracy in the coups of 1987.

Rabuka throws a grenade into the national space and then calls for calm, with the implicit message that however provocative his conduct, we’d better not react or things will be worse for us. That the dog whistle might be heeded and the iTaukei supremacists he leads might be tempted to really teach us a lesson.

Don’t take my word for any of this – an impertinent kai valagi luve ni talatala daring to call out the bleeding obvious. Because Praise God, we now have a prominent iTaukei calling out the Prime Minister in the form of the Unity Party leader, Savenaca Narube – sparing any member of the minorities from a figurative (or actual) clip around the ear.

And Rabuka doesn’t like it – sooling his protégé, Filimoni Vosarogo, to play the role of attack dog against a fellow iTaukei telling it like it is.

Savenaca Narube

Bravo, Savenaca Narube, for standing up to the Snake. He is the first iTaukei political leader to do so and has made moral pygmies of the likes of Inia Seruiratu and Jone Usamate at People First, who should have been the first to condemn Rabuka but clearly don’t have the courage to stand up to the indigenous and religious supremacists.

So far we have seen Mahendra Chaudhry and Premila Kumar confront the Prime Minister but they are “Indians” and, well, they would do that, wouldn’t they? But here is a respected iTaukei – the former governor of the Reserve Bank – marching to the front to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the minorities. And we all owe him a great deal for doing so.

Read on to witness what moral courage actually looks like. And how Narube’s intervention has incensed the Prime Minister and his supporters.

Why? Because the old iTaukei versus the rest isn’t working anymore. And the last thing they need is conflict between the iTaukei over their hidden agenda to establish iTaukei supremacy and the Christian faith in Fiji once and for all.

From the Fiji Sun

But amid the dog whistling, the Prime Minister’s golden boy, Filimoni Vosarogo – the man thrice found guilty of professional misconduct as a lawyer – is the attack dog Rabuka has delegated to try to bring Savenaca Narube back into line.

He has the audacity to accuse Narube of being “irresponsible” when the irresponsible stamp is writ large in capital letters all over Sitiveni Rabuka’s forehead.

From CFL-Fiji Village

From the Fiji Times

Come on, Fili. Who is really doing the fracturing? It’s your relative and master, the PM. He just doesn’t like being called out for it.

Sitiveni Rabuka has failed the test of leadership while Savenaca Narube has shown us all – iTaukei and non iTaukei – what real leadership looks like. And for that he deserves our gratitude and thanks.

Sad as it sounds. Just goes to show how simple the mentality of people who need to write an entire page of journalism and post it in a local newspaper, all in the name of a few comments calling for CALM! I would hate to think what the narrative would be had he called for arms, perhaps the opposite. Such is the logic of these ppl.

Clearly The members of the opposition are not familiar with parliamentary process. The woman demanding public disclosure is totally unreasonable in her expectation that government release a document to the public before it is presented in parliament. She has no idea of political procedure or due process for that matter. This is the very reason the opposition should be nowhere near an inkling of political authority. They never knew it, how to do it and , clearly, they still dont understand it.

You clearly have no appreciation of the context of all of this – the language of the dog whistle Sitiveni Rabuka has always employed in which calling for “calm” can actually have the subtext of incitement.

There was no actual unrest or even strong statements from politicians representing the minorities. But calling for “calm” sends a message to Rabuka’s supporters of heated opposition to the agenda he is trying to implement on their behalf and that they must be ready to fight it.

You also seem obsessed with procedure without asking yourself why a report would be presented and publicised a month before the parliament even sits, creating a vacuum which is inevitably filled with conjecture. And more pertinently, why the prospect of the abolition of the secular state – highly provocative to the minorities – is allowed to fester and poison the national debate.

Even if you don’t understand what is happening, rest assured that Rabuka’s supporters do – the promise of the state siding with Christianity if not a Christian state. Which is why Savenaca Narube has intervened to accuse him of trying to inflame iTaukei opinion and calling his bluff.

Could not agree more with you GD about the true meaning of “remain calm.”

This newest call for ‘calm’ comes when there is – as previous zero potential for possible unrest-there is none, zero, zilch. Why the call?

The ‘calm’ narrative is used each and every time this bastard returns to government.
A snake occasionally sheds skin, it remain as ever a snake.

‘Remain calm’ is simply gaslighting. It has long been used as euphemism to call for preparations that it’s time to mobilize and terrorize. Sure as a snake speaking with a forked tongue to message the base.

This trade-mark double speak by this evil bastard has long been the first go-to card in his playbook. It is solely used each time to signal to his hard core extremist nationalists base, the gcc, the pulpit that it’s time to rally the troops.

We’ve seen and experienced the results of this phrase from his vile racist bigot before. The bastards have form.

The idea is to first instill fear. Organize rallies in public squares followed by a match through the streets. It gets out of control in no time. Herd behavior equals predation.

We’ve seen this play before and learnt to not underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups riled by base instincts. The mob are driven by greed for their ounce of silver and by pure hate. They are used as willing props.

Anyone else that fails to see that to “remain calm” is a ruse is blind as a bat.
Or part of cabal and/or a group flooding the zone with messaging across various platforms online trying to push a different narrative and cyber bullying.

The evil snake knows well too that gumption nor compulsion remains in the rfmf to stand their ground re: Section 131 ‘overall responsibility to ensure at all times the security, defense, and the well being of Fiji and all Fijians.’

The snake thinks he has neutered rfmf with his TRC charade and current “constitutional review.” He is acutely aware his goons are in control and will only step in to “restore order” to maintain the status quo.

The pre-sages have been set in motion with the metaphoric speck of snow to later snow ball to its damaging mayhem of destructive hateful violent and inhumane conclusion.

The general lawlessness, targeted violent crimes against persons and property is happening now. There’s information available across different sources and public platforms that illustrates this.

As an example, this piece is shared here verbatim for those who may not have seen it:

12 POINTS ON NFP AND THEIR GREED FOR POWER
#NFP sold Indo-Fijians to Rabuka. That is the whole story.
        1. #Biman did not “work with” Rabuka. He chose him. 1987 man. 2000 memory. NFP signed anyway.
        2. #They took the seats. We took the fear.
        3. #Land is being emptied the slow way. Lease expires. Farmer gone. NFP still talking Master Lease like talk is a title deed.
        4. #They want the word Fijian taken off us. iTaukei keep “Fijian.” We become Indo-Fijian only. Passport stays. Belonging dies. That is how they kill our citizenry without touching the stamp.
        5. #Temples smashed and robbed. Samabula. Sigatoka. Nadi. Labasa. Suva. Murtis broken. Fires lit. Cash stolen. A mandir is not “random crime.”
        6. #Taxi drivers beaten, robbed, one murdered in Tavua. Nadi. Lautoka. Wainibokasi. Cunningham. Labasa. Men going to work and not coming home whole.
        7. #Shops and homes hit. Knife. Threats. Theft. Assault. The same community, again.
        8. No new future for our children on the farm or in the jobs that used to feed us. They leave. That is how you empty a people without a deportation notice.
        9. #Tourism talk is now “especially indigenous.” They do not need a ban. They change the language and squeeze us out.
        10. #Biman got Finance and Deputy PM. Then FICAC. Then he stepped aside. NFP stayed in the coalition. We stayed in the target.
        11. #Girmit Day is a photo. It does not fix a broken Shiv, a cut taxi driver, or a dead lease.
        12. #NFP will run the next election alone. Remember why. They needed distance from the man they put in power.
        #Biman_did_not_protect_Indo_Fijians.
        #He rented us to PAP.
#The rent was our land, our safety, our temples, and the right to say we are Fijian.
        #Share it raw. END QUOTE.

Again, these aren’t random crimes excused away with the fallacy of drugs, family breakdown, HIV, etc.

The fact that no police presence in communities not patrolled frequently to the vulnerable unprotected at the mercy of thugs with the inept head of the police speaking gibberish. Compliant donkey and a willing participant who owes his cushy job to the snake.

These are all hallmarks of instilling a doom and gloom scenario to weaken any opposition and to toe the line “or else.”

Mixing law, constitutional issues with moral claims by invoking religious bullsh!t, god given rights, god’s chosen people, with claims of owing the air and the seas has helped win consent and acquiescence from the itaukei electorate by the projection of racism as power is dangerous.

If I understand correctly parliament sits before the end of the month, not a significant amount of time to mull over a report. I don’t see how this process is “provocative” unless you presuppose its contents which, in itself, is not reasonable behavior.
Sure, the job of any opposition part is to kick mud in the face of authority by using the public as an excuse, just political play 101 in action. What is “required” is civil, sensible, protocol and calm as mentioned. Perhaps why the comment was made in the first place. You might argue the PM is pandering to his followers but you cannot assume that is the case. Perhaps he knows the mentality of disquiet that already exists amongst the population hence his words are literal in nature!
Either way, in my opinion he has done nothing wrong by appealing for calm. The government is just following procedure. Not a heck of a lot anyone can do to change that!

The parliament sits on September 28 and the only “mulling over the report” is being done by the leadership. As I understand it, it hasn’t even gone to cabinet yet and certainly not to other MPs. Otherwise it would have surely leaked.

I “cannot assume that the PM is pandering to his followers”? Are you kidding? He has had a lifetime of doing so. He has “done nothing wrong by appealing for calm?” Does the captain of an aircraft or ship appeal for calm if they are “just following procedure” and there’s nothing out of the ordinary occuring?

I’m suggesting that your comments are rooted in naivety. This guy has form and lots of it. But I agree with you when you say there’s “not a heck of a lot anyone can do to change that”. That shouldn’t stop the likes of Savenaca Narube, Premila Kumar and Mahendra Chaudhry from trying.

I can only assume the “calm” is aimed at members of the bickering opposition who have their nappies in a twist because the report hasn’t reached their desks. We all know FJ has a history of inside “leaks” and the delay of release is intended to prevent this type of thing from happening, highly considerate and mature political posturing from a government if you ask me. They are aware that the opposition will only seek to weaponize this “delay” further by claiming that its contents are malicious in some way.
It would be wonderful to have a few pages of the draft so that the temporary stall on social media platforms can hit full speed once more but this is precisely the type of thing few governments in this day and age seem to be capable of addressing. Social media undermines the very narrative which it is meant to project. Perhaps Ai will serve it’s purpose by ensuring that integrity of thought errr’s on the side of caution in future rather than a blurrrttt here or there taken to extremes.
Don’t get me wrong . I’m not condoning any behavior on either side of the aisle . I can only hope that sanity prevails in any case and there is a positive outcome but let’s give this some context. Instead of blaming the past for predicting the future , let’s use the present to determine some sensible logical reasoning for the present.

BS. The honorable MP was elected to do exactly that and paid to do so.

The others are no slouches either, both have years of experience and knowledge in governance and the economy to say the least.

People’s lives and safety and livelihoods are at stake as you sit being a pedant at best if not dogmatically holding the line in favor of disenfranchisement and alienation of up to forty percent at worst.

It is remarkable that people like Rabuka’s cousin, Vosarogo and others jump to the PM’s defense in perceiving or preempting a situation which the ordinary law-abiding Fijian would not have even dreamed of. Rabuka’s track record would in itself send a red flag and he has succeeded in making an apparent ‘non issue’ into something controversial which the public has the right to know about.

Kudos to Narube for calling him out and clearly it has had its effect, judging by Vosarogo’s reaction. Of course the Government wouldn’t have the spine to react to Chaudhry and Kumar, leaving it to cronies like Rabuku to peddle the legal angle.

Indeed, why can’t the report be made public for a thorough analysis, deliberation and discourse. Even the President has said the report belongs to the people. And the current MPs are not the only source of knowledge and wisdom on such important issues. If anything, they have already breached the fundamental markers of ethics and trust by voting themselves the massive pay rise whilst most of us are struggling in poverty, exacerbated by issues such as corruption, drugs, health, law & order.

We have 4 Universities, a myriad of actors in higher education, think tanks, community leaders, churches, religious bodies, civil society and individuals who are well positioned to analyse the report and provide views that would inform the wider public.

Why is Rabuka and the Coalition being so lamu?

Haha thrice disbarred – not once, but thrice disbarred – Vosarogo calling Narube irresponsible. What a effing joke. The last time I checked, Narube was never disciplined, let alone disbarred, his entire career.

The scariest thing is that Vosarogo is Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources. I feel scared for the iTaukei resource owners. As his legal background shows – thrice disbarred- he is not to be trusted at all. He is deep into China’s pockets with his children, getting benefits from the Chinese as well.

Thrice disbarred. You would have to be exceptionally dishonest to be disbarred three times, not to mention quite dumb.

Filimoni Vosarogo was never disbarred. He was disciplined by the Independent Legal Services Commission, found guilty, and fined. The distinction is important. Had he been disbarred he would not be allowed to continuing practising which he is allowed to do.

As for being in China’s pockets and his children getting benefits from the Chinese, that has been rumoured for awhile. However, no one has fronted up with proof. It is said that his son studies in China and Vosarogo’s wife travels there frequently but he is earning good money so it could be that he is footing all the costs himself.

FACT: Vosarogo was found guilty of professional misconduct not once but three times. It prevented him from becoming attorney general but guess what? The government wants to change that portion of the constitution so that lawyers found guilty of misconduct like Vosarogo and the loathsome John Rabuku can still be considered for state positions from which they are currently barred.

Divide and conquer. Rabuka’s goal is to create fractures/friction within the Fijian community then blame other ethnic groups for creating the issues. Use that to justify why Fiji must be cleansed of other ethnicities and win the next election on the promises of “ridding Fiji of the vulagis.”

Nobody is denying the public a right to know about the contents of the report but you MUST respect the sanctity of political process. A report of this nature will never be released to the public in the first instance. You still don’t seem to get it. Most of the comments are crying foul stating “the public deserves to know”. The public are always the last to be informed. It doesn’t matter when a report is tabled be it a month or a year before parliament sits. The government will never release such a report until it has gone through the necessary channels of government and parliament first. That is not a made up process, this is an International norm! If you choose to think otherwise then perhaps you are the ones behaving like apes! Check the comments earlier. I believe someone clearly articulated this process. Please respect it or else you are condoning the very thing you say you despise, a banana republic!

Why was this so important to do as the first and only private sector initiative?

Why would any government think this was a good idea?

Fiji Water actually provides Fiji with a multitude of positive economic benefits besides the obvious, putting the Fiji Islands on the map through it’s very savvy and effective branding campaigns.
If you want some specifics closer to home then the following might be useful:

While the overarching tax policy is designed for national economic stability, its spin-off effects create tangible benefits that flow directly to local iTaukei communities through employment, direct financial compensation, community development, and infrastructure improvements.

The most direct benefit is the creation of jobs. Fiji Water and its sister shipping company employ around 800 Fijians. At its bottling plant in Yaqara, Ra, this provides nearly 400 employees with “long-term career development opportunities”.

Crucially, this extends beyond direct employment. The nearby Vatukaloko people set up their own corporation to provide services like security, maintenance, laundry, and meals to the bottling plant. This represents a form of local economic empowerment, allowing the indigenous community to profit directly from the company’s presence.

As the original custodians of the land and water resources, iTaukei landowners are entitled to direct financial compensation and iTaukei landowners can receive significant financial benefits for the use of their resources

The Fiji Water Foundation serves as a major channel for community investment. Over the last 10 years alone, the foundation has spent more than $17 million on a wide range of projects nationwide. These initiatives, which directly benefit iTaukei communities, include:

Education: Building kindergartens and providing school backpacks for children.

Health: Funding new toilets at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital’s maternity and children’s wards and providing free heart surgery.

Infrastructure: Installing new wells for drinking water, providing clean water access to rural communities, and funding solar power projects.

General Welfare: Providing community grants to local organizations, training suicide prevention counselors, and providing relief during natural calamities.

Fiji Water’s investments have created broader economic benefits that indirectly support iTaukei communities and businesses. By investing in the shipping company Neptune Pacific Direct Line, it has provided a reliable export channel and offered lower freight rates, creating competition and benefiting other Fijian businesses that import goods. Additionally, the company has purchased land in Vanua Levu to diversify Fiji’s agriculture sector by planting lime and mangoes, an investment described as one that would “greatly benefit Fijians”.

The company has also contributed to environmental protection, which is vital for iTaukei communities that rely on natural resources. The Fiji Water Foundation has helped establish a FJ$10-million endowment to conserve 40,000 acres of Fiji’s largest remaining indigenous rainforest, the Sovi Basin. It also supports mangrove restoration projects working with iTaukei communities.

On the fiscal front, since 2009, Fiji has levied a WRT on water extraction. In the 2023-2024 budget, this was increased to 19.5 cents per litre for companies extracting over 10 million litres a month (a category that only Fiji Water fits). This tax is projected to generate significant revenue, increasing from $73 million to $91 million.

Other Taxes and Tariffs: Fiji Water also pays millions in duties and other taxes. In 2025, the company stated it pays the Fijian government $100 million in taxes annually. Therefore tax revenue generated from the entity alone without the positive spin off effects I outlined above amount to a figure in the vicinity of 190-200 million dollars each year. Can you tell me another primary industry that produces this from an eco friendly source?

So to your point questioning and stating who exactly benefits from this tax holiday its evident that the spin-off effects permeate down to the local level, providing iTaukei people with jobs, direct compensation, improved community infrastructure, and broader economic opportunities that contribute to their wellbeing and development.

Hopefully that clears the air a bit for those that question tax holidays for investors in Fiji.

Providing any tax exemption for California’s wealthiest farming couple with a net worth of US $13-billion is an obscenity. It cannot be justified on any basis, including the fact that this privilege does not extend to other investors in Fiji.

It has come about purely because of their influence with the government through their lawyer, Richard “I have the means” Naidu, the head of the Fiscal Review Committee. And as sure as the sun rises, it will be examined with a fine tooth comb in the event of a change of government. Because the whole thing stinks.

Yes and it was these very same entrepreneurs that filled a void in the Fijian economy when very few other entrepreneurs could survive. The tax holiday is not the reason why they came to FJ. The tax holiday is an incentive to ensure long term , viable investment in the FJ economy. I know you understand very little about economics or business for that matter GD so I will keep this very simple.
It is totally senseless to point the blame at wealthy people for bringing this opportunity to the Fiji shores. The Resnick family were wealthy before they ventured here. As were most other wealthy entrepreneurs who have invested in FJ over the years. These people don’t come here because they want a break …they come here because someone they trusted provided them with a “globally competitive” business environment within which to operate. If your socialist narrative were to be played out long term for the same duration of Fiji Water’s existence the company would have closed down long ago…Furthermore most of any other investment in Fiji from clients of similar standing would have fallen by the wayside. That’s not a wild assumption that’s a known and proven truth. As the old adage goes “don’t bite the hand that feeds you”. It would take 1000 Baini’ schemes to fill one pocket of the calibre of investment that preceded his lame duck tenure. If you want Fiji to saunter on down the creek of Socialist led leadership the fruit is gonna look awfully tasty on the outside until someone takes a bite , spits the lot out and looks for another tree where the sap is sweet and the bats don’t bite!

“Mack” maybe you have already been drinking too much Chilean pinot. One moment you’re railing against Frank Bainimarama for his alleged role in the extrajudicial killings in 2000 and “Lowry” is supporting the tax break for the Resnicks at Fiji Water.

Then suddenly, you’re defending the tax break. Could you perchance be the same person, having forgotten to stay on your original patch? Both of you appearing to be separate but one and the same – a pro-government troll operating two email accounts? Because it sure looks that way.

I am going to be watching you (both) very closely from now on. Your writing style is suspiciously similar and neither of you have any history in these columns. In fact, you’ve both come out of absolutely nowhere. Or maybe the same professional service provider?

I didn’t come down in the last shower and know how these things work especially this close to an election. Is your little trip up the giveaway? Labasa?

  9. Lynda Tabuya the gift that keeps on giving says

    September 5, 2026 at 1:25 pm

The Pacific Newsroom highlights the absolute failure and dysfunction of the government’s propaganda arm, the ministry of information, under Lynda Tabuya, who spends more time out of the country than in it.

Useless leeches bleeding the taxpayers dry while achieving f**k all for the country. The blame lies squarely at the Prime Minister’s feet. Rolex Rabuka is the one who brought him. He is, of course, as useless as the rest of them.

    “On The Wire

Fiji seems to be developing a rather curious new tradition: when spokespeople fail to speak clearly, the wives of senior officials step in to do the explaining.

The gap as Fiji’s Minister of Information, Lynda Tabuya on the taxpayer payroll is sending out rather peculiar messaging, while a minister’s wife finds herself defending her husband’s role. It is not entirely unfamiliar territory. We have seen similar scenes involving another senior Cabinet minister who was recently reinstated and even a diplomat based in America whose wife felt compelled to publicly defend her husband and counter statements appearing online.

At this rate, perhaps the Government should simply create a new portfolio: Minister for Spousal Communications and Damage Control.

It might at least save the taxpayer the confusion of figuring out who is actually speaking for whom.”

Has Frank ever been tried for the murderous cover up at the barracks? How about his sacking of Andrew Hughes , then commissioner of Police the day after his 2006 coup and the intimidation and threats faced by those involved in trying to bring about justice for the families of those affected.
This was followed by layering up decree after decree to hide his filthy fingerprints which Hughes had uncovered when the Police investigation into Frank reached its peak only days before the coup! To call that Fiji First is totally and utterly hypocritical . What that is is ..using the nation as an excuse to cover you own backside! Correct me if I’m wrong but sedition and murder are pretty serious crimes in most countries. Perhaps not in the old banana republic. Has the current admin’ murdered anyone in the lead up to this report release? Has Rabuka engaged in sedition and acted as a vigilante by using the constitution to cover up his criminal acts? Quite the opposite. He has only appealed for calm so restless mud slingers stop itching in their soiled pants.

Bainimarama’s critics are fond of harping on about the extrajudicial killings in 2000 of rebels who murdered loyal soldiers in cold blood but what about what is happening NOW?

How can you possibly post something so one sided under the circumstances?

To my last comment Graham. I am towing the line of leadership and pointing out the failure of much needed FDI and offshore investment under the previous admin’ . No, I don’t know Lowry but I did read that article and empathize with that tone. I also understand the economics of it better than the politics of it in fact.
My point being a Socialist mindset can be very destructive for Fj and it sure as hell was under previous.

Thanks. Yes , enjoying a drop of the Pinot. It’s a reserve .Central valley Did you ever try it?

The recent murder at the barracks appears to be the result of some deep seated corruption that exists within the ranks of the RFMF. The fact that a civilian with a very serious criminal record had been seen on the premises on more than one previous occasion should have the entire country “very concerned” and raises really serious questions about the integrity of the military.

There is either a serious undermining of trust and professional conduct on that base or some sort of rift amongst its members. If members of the military are colluding with known drug dealers and arms are involved it shows a total failure at the highest levels of security in the land.

A serious internal investigation should be carried out and the military should be made to conduct an official investigation of its own. If I am correct there is currently one member of the military in custody at the barracks as a result of the investigation to date.

Members of the public rely on these men for civil protection. This is inexcusable. Murder is a crime but it seems this individual suffered fate at the hands of people he was already complicit and party to by way of illegal activities of sorts that have not yet been disclosed.

This paints a very scary picture. Is the military, indirectly responsible for the surge in drug addiction in the country ?? By these accounts it’s certainly not an unreasonable assumption to make.

There could be no worse a time for rot to permeate the RFMF. With elections a few months away this has the potential to destabilize both public sentiment and national security. Sort your sh*t out!

The @Lowry is talking sh*t and thinks we are naïve. He can shove his trickle down economics up his arse.

This bastard is talking as if Fiji Water is providing charity in Fiji. Sounds like that stupid lawyer Richard Naidu in disguise. Richard’s lack of court experiences is on display as he is butchering and making a dog’s breakfast out of Biman Prasad’s case. The mediocre Richard is being exposed.

Everything Fiji Water does in Fiji is to maximize the extraction and increase its profits to the hilt. The tax break was not warranted at all. Especially in the face of a Vat increase for the rest of the citizens. The work of two bastards: Biman and Richard Naidu.

These two traitors sold out the resource owners and the citizens of this country. They are part of the National Federation Party misinformation campaign to win the election, then turn on the very people who voted for them. As I said, bastards of the highest order.

(Eds note. Believe it or not, this comment has been altered to remove even more intense abuse)

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.

(Feejee is the original name for Fiji - a derivative of the indigenous Viti and the Tongan Fisi - and was widely used until the late 19th century)
