# LORD OF ALL HE SURVEYS. ZHAO FUGANG: CHINESE AGENT AND ALLEGED CRIME BOSS

Posted on March 25, 2024 10 Comments

The sensational allegations against the owner of the Yue Lai restaurant, Zhao Fugang, are sending shock waves through the Fijian establishment after they were revealed last night by the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and 60 Minutes (see previous story).

We are still waiting for the 60 Minutes story to be uplifted to YouTube but in the meantime, there is a great deal of further information and context in a story by the OCCRP – the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project – the global NGO that worked closely with Australia’s Nine media organisation on the Zhao Fugang story.

The OCCRP has previously produced a report on the activities of the Grace Road “church” in Fiji. It now joins Nine media in shining a spotlight on China’s activities in the country through the shadowy Zhao Fugang – a naturalised Fiji citizen with tentacles throughout the establishment whose exposure is now a massive problem for the Coalition government.

While the OCCRP has been conducting training at the Fiji Times and might have been expected to work with Fiji’s supposed newspaper of record on this extraordinary story, there is, predictably, nothing in today’s edition of the paper. (see below). When will Fiji’s mainstream media finally step up and take advantage of the supposed “new era of media freedom”? Yeah, I know. Stupid question.

Back In August 2022, Grubsheet identified Fugang Zhao as a suspected Chinese agent of influence in Fiji, which he has now admitted. No local media bothered to follow up the story. https://www.grubsheet.com.au/chinese-whispers-chinese-burns/

Where’s the story, Fred? Maybe tomorrow?

It was loaded onto YouTube pretty quickly. How many more grubs will they let into Fiji just so people can receive “goodies” as Rabuka put it. The China and Grace problem and the filth they bring make 1987 look like a little party Man up and kick them out. God “protects all” remember? Hypocritical bunch of wimps should move to China with them. Then they’ll really know how simplistic their minuscule brains are working. They should be protecting our “separate entity”. No. We don’t believe you. You are lackeys to China. NO WONDER YOU CANT GET ON TOP OF THE DRUG PROBLEM!! Bring in your old buddies Australia, New Zealand and the USA (if they dare to come). CANT possibly be worse than China’s dirty grip.

GD they won’t let you holiday in peace!!!!

Rabuka and Pio are way out of their league dealing with this. In the end what will be done in Fiji will depend more on how it can be twisted to make them look good in public whilst pocketing the benefits in private. Beggars can’t be choosers as they say, and Fiji is a beggar nation, sadly. This is a huge “watch this space”.

“A delegation from the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) that will comprise representatives from each province, including Rotuma, will embark on a tour of three Chinese provinces this month.

Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu will lead the delegation on this ‘strategic visit’, fully funded by the Chinese government.”

Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu is a drug lords business partner. The same drug lord who was big and caught by other Police that Fiji Police. Biggest drug bust ever. Remember Rabuka said that the media was sensationalising the subject.
Rabuka needs to pull his head out of his arse. He is a complete waste of space PM.

OMG ! Talk about naive, drastically naive. And the Chinese Association in Fiji which embraced these guys need to take a good look at itself.

If Pio and the PM are way out of depth, perhaps the Great Council of Chiefs can respond??
    Holding my breath, waiting.

PS. You poor sod GD, denied a break again.

It’s OK. I said at the start that I would make an exception for this story, which I had the heads up was coming, and for the sentencing on Thursday of Frank and Siti. Enjoying my holiday nonetheless.

    God help us !
The second half of the article says they have nothing , Australia and New Zealand that is, and WE, little Fiji, are out of our depth ? !!!!!!!

New Zealand and Australia, two of the 5 brown eyes, boast having the most sophisticated surveillance abilities on the planet, yet they have nothing ! So what do they want from us Joe Citizens ? Guy Fawkes guy, stick ‘im up high !
Fiji Citizens, Fiji Citizens , calling all Fiji Citizens – China man bad. You are all being called to voluntary service as honorary Sherlock Holmes detectives. Mr Zhao is a naughty naughty boy.
Get a grip on your sanity Australia and deal with these issues diplomatically and through co-operation with China and stop being a running dog for USA Inc ( Estd 1871).
Corporate msm is running this propaganda operation in conjunction with ASIO and big brother CIA. China, from being Australia’s best friend on the planet is now enemy No 1. China warned Australia that they should reconsider this stupid policy as they will have to react to such an attitude with equal measure. Can only hope the professionals co-operating behind the scenes will get the job done.
To those playing propaganda hit pieces, you risk blow back.
There is a lot of stupid. but not endless.

Have a good one GD .

Ian, you need to take your own advice and get a grip on your own sanity. To prefer a nation of unelected gangsters to democracies like Australia is genuinely demented. Australians can change their government. The Chinese cannot. End of story.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
