# LYNDA’S PROBLEMS ARE ONLY JUST BEGINNING

Posted on December 27, 2024 48 Comments

Publicly humiliated and stripped of her cabinet position, the ex-Minister for Bonking and Weed has paid a heavy price for her inability to keep her clothes on and faces the ignominy of being the only People’s Alliance MP on the backbench of the parliament – her salary more than halved to $95,000* and none of the ministerial perks like official car and driver.

As a millionaire, the loss of money isn’t as important as the loss of face. Lynda Tabuya has been stripped of her dignity – tens of thousands of Fijians and counting aware of every inch of her body and the physical assets she has used to manipulate men and get on in life. How she is going to cope with the humiliation of appearing in public, let alone in parliament, is a question on many lips. Is she now going to resign as an MP altogether? We shall see.

But her dramatic expulsion from Sitiveni Rabuka‘s cabinet is just the start. Lynda Tabuya now faces the prospect of a lot more being exposed than her body as the wolves begin circling around this sordid affair. In her own party, the disciplinary committee that found her guilty of the sex and illicit drug scandal in Room 233 and stripped her of the PAP deputy leadership is convening again to investigate “that video”.

They have the power to recommend Tabuya’s expulsion from the People’s Alliance altogether. Under the 2013 Constitution, that would automatically mean losing her seat in the parliament. And even if she tries to cling on in politics, being expelled from the PAP and the parliament would not be the ideal springboard for Tabuya’s reported plans to go it alone with her own party in 2026.

Even more daunting, Tabuya and her “bestie”, Barbara Malimali – the embattled FICAC Commissioner – face a fresh probe into the circumstances in which Tabuya claimed to have been divorced from her millionaire husband, Rob Semaan, since 2016 and didn’t have to declare his income to the Elections Office when it now transpires that they are still very much married.

The Opposition leader, Inia Seruiratu, is calling for a fresh inquiry into Barbara Malimali’s decision to terminate a FICAC investigation into Lynda Tabuya’s allegedly false income declaration. And depending on how that inquiry goes, Lynda and Barbie could both find themselves behind bars.

Read on for coverage of Seruiratu’s call in today’s Fiji Times and the rest of the stories on “Turtle-gate” in the two dailies. We also have Vijay Narayan‘s story on CFL-Fiji Village this morning. For his reporting, Vijay has gained the privilege of joining Grubsheet and Victor Lal as Lynda’s primary media bêtes noires.

Now the two front pages and other “Turtle-gate” stories…

For the background to Inia Seruiratu’s call for an inquiry and why Lynda and Barbie could be in very big trouble, here’s what Grubsheet published on October 1.

# EXPOSED: LYNDA TABUYA AND BARBARA MALIMALI’S BIG LIE

* It would have been $50,000 had Lynda Tabuya not almost doubled the salary for an ordinary MP to $95,000 as Chair of Parliament’s Emoluments Committee .

The outrageous salary increases triggered a national furore and will be remembered by many with a great deal of anger as one of her legacies in public life.

WTF? An apt image of the PM in today’s Fiji Times.

Estes Nadakuitavuki, Lynda’s permanent secretary, should also resign or be sacked too. Civil servants should be neutral and outside politics, Lynda’s famous statement protesting her innocence from any wrong doing was signed by Shameema Ali and Nadakuitavuki.

She should not have done that as a civil servant. Her position has been u detained and she should join her fellow Kadavuan Tabuya and go back to Kadavu. .

The PM has to disband the coalition immediately and present a slate of fresh faces.

Quote of the Year: “This is not a decision I have taken lightly but one that is necessary in the best interests of the people that we serve.”

People that we serve include iTaukei and non-iTaukei, or “vulagi” according to Liliana. So, since Dec 2022, all other decisions were taken lightly, such as the nominations and appointments of law breakers as President, CJ, CR, A/DPP, and FICAC Commissioner, not in the best interests of the people that we serve.

More like Lie of the Year! So all are liars from Government House to the Judiciary, Cabinet, Parliament and down to PS Women. So help Fiji, Lucifer!

Our hopes for this government faded and died with its very first decision to give Fiji’s most successful foreign company a tax holiday after a process mired with accusations of nepotism and conflicts of interest. Shameful sell outs. From that first scandal they’ve lurched to the next and the next and then next and the next

GD, the whole of Fiji is in uproar but it seems that your compadre and partner in crime, Victor Lal, of the FijiLeaks fame, is yet to be ‘aroused’ (pun not intended) by LyndaGate. Lately FijiLeaks has failed to rise to the occasion (again no pun intended. This is no dick-measuring contest). I suppose that all tend to go a bit slow and soft with age. It’s all in good fun and humor😅. It’s the best way to deal with our grim situation. Maybe Limpy Lal will stiffen to attention after this. What say, GD?

Honesty, integrity, and transparency are great and florid words that are best said from lips and secretly kept in books. In Fiji these words means nothing. The free flow of drugs, together with prostitutions including child prostitution on every corner of our streets is a great example. Big sharks are swimming with senior bureaucrats and senior politicians and have no regards to laws, yet from time to time we hear peasant users caught, harassed, and charged. Another example is the prevalence of nepotism and cronyism in the appointment of senior bureaucrats position without positions being advertised.
Talking about integrity, why is Rabuka reacting now during festive season when majority of the peoples minds are switched off from politics and current affairs. Rabuka should have sacked both Aseri Radrodro and Lynda long time ago but continued to carry them and let them loose to exploit the system, isnt it time now that Rabuka should also go? Where is transparency, integrity, and honesty!!!

Unfortunately social enjoyment took her by her neck.
It is very important how one should behave if you are a public figure ,especially when you representing people in Parliament.
Her actions will haunt her later in life.
Many prominent people smoke weed and go mad with alcohol.
A prominent lawyer was charged half a dozen times for possession of drugs.
Doctors smoke it and even the lawyers too.
She surely needs a psychiatrist for some assessment.
    She needs treatment here.
Best option for her is to take a break and get herself treated.
At the moment she is a dead women walking.
People are stoning her but please don’t stone her to death.

The positives are that Rabuka finally got his mojo back and that the party could potentially expel her.

    The negatives:
    1. Rabuka has done too much damage

    2. He seconded appointments that were outright wrong and controversial

    3. Rabuka is only doing what will benefit him and his cronies going forward. He does not have the country’s interest at the forefront

    4. Aseri is still a minister even though he was LT partner in crime in Melbourne. What’s his future now?

    5. Will Rabuka have the political courage to act on Barbie Mali2? She is part of this rot that is eating away at PAP. He can’t pull the plug on one minister and yet have no courage or integrity to do the same to other questionable appointments…
He should follow the example of Pio

    Positives
    1. Lynda is no longer minister and she will therefore no longer be the face of the very issue she was appointed to lead

    2. Maybe, just maybe, the PAP party might just garner enough courage to push Rabuka after this latest debacle.

Hopefully there will be enough backlash from the PAP membership and general public to expel Lynda.

Until then, Fiji is at the mercy of this rotten and corrupt cabal parading as the saviours of the nation. Absolute horse dung!!!!

By default, politicians and public figures do not have private lives.
Your taxpayer-funded benefits (including exclusive political access) are under public scrutiny 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
It’s a privilege that we give you. Not something that you demand.
No one presented a whale’s tooth to bring you into public office. Sega ni tuberi na kemu tabua mo curuma na bula vakapolitiki!
You were voted in by the citizens of Fiji to honour and provide the highest level of public service delivery that is commensurate with your parliamentary privileges.
    We trusted you.
But you betrayed that trust with the greatest disrespect that any government minister, and a Fijian woman minister at that (!!) could ever reciprocate.
Your real private/personal character has been revealed to the public. Those digital records will unfortunately remain in cyberspace for eternity.
There’s no need to hound the people who are sharing the video.
They did the people of Fiji a huge favour – imagine what other damage you could do in the future to wreck this nation??!!
Whether or not you were really recording it for your “husband” is another story. Is that another lie? We hope not. Either way, a man or woman of integrity in that position would have already resigned with that kind of stupidity and sexual promiscuity. You bring great shame to your family.
Why are you still prideful and arrogant, even at this stage?
Resign now and save whatever little you have left of your personal integrity. We already that there’s more out there and only time will tell.
People view you as sexually promiscuous, an unguarded and immoral woman, wife and mother and NOT FIT to be a member of parliament in my country!
There are many more deserving men and women out there who will do a much better job than you.
Eat humble pie and just exit stage left.
    Fiji does not need you.
The party does not need you.
    What an embarrassment!
Your political career is finished. And you have no one to blame except yourself. Absolutely no discipline. A low-value woman politician.
    Out you go!

It could have been anybody really trust worthy, (children, neighbours, member of GCC, etc) doing video recording. We really don’t know.
Secondly, being a role model, Minister for Women, we should be encouraged to the same, as long as it is kept private? About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
