# MEMO PM: IF YOU WANT A FUTURE IN POLITICS, YOU’D BETTER STOP PLAYING VICTIM AND LEAD

Posted on January 2, 2025 57 Comments

Quit dithering and do what is right

The Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, is on the front page of today’s Fiji Sun with an astonishingly self-indulgent piece in which he ruminates about whether he will lead the People’s Alliance into the next election. Self-indulgent because he is ultimately responsible for everything the Coalition touches turning to sh*t – whether it is the current scandal about Lynda Tabuya‘s latest sex video or defying the Constitution and not accepting the exoneration of Christopher Pryde.

The PM’s current performance is pathetic. As Grubsheet readers portray it in our comments section, it is either “oh I didn’t know about that” or “you have to file an official complaint before I order an investigation” or “there are not enough hours in the day and I am tired from lack of sleep”. Or some other attempt to deflect responsibility from his own role in having to do something, anything, to keep the ship of state on course.

Here’s the thing, PM. How about showing some leadership by insisting that the report by the Tribunal that investigated the allegations of misbehaviour against the DPP that reportedly exonerates him be released, as the Constitution requires. You and your little cabal of the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, and the Chief Justice, Salesi Temo, are sitting on it because you haven’t got what you wanted – a guilty verdict. But if you think you can get away with a fix, forget it.

Situation terminal

And it is high time that you face up to the fact that Lynda Tabuya has lied. Correction. You know she has lied but you don’t have the moral courage to back up your dismissal of her from the cabinet by also insisting that she be expelled from the People’s Alliance and expelled from the Parliament.

Here’s the proof of just one of Lynda’s lies. No, not the fact that her sex video wasn’t for the benefit of her husband, Rob Semaan, but for her newly-exposed iTaukei lover from the British Army. It’s proof that Lynda Tabuya lied when she told the Electoral Commission and FICAC that she has been divorced from Rob Semaan since 2016 so she wasn’t required to have declared his millions as head of Fiji’s biggest construction company on her electoral income declarations.

Here’s you with Lynda Tabuya and others at a pre-Christmas gathering just days ago:

And here’s Lynda’s husband, Rob, with members of their family at the same event.

Yep, that’s him.

So they are lying about being divorced and it is an extremely serious matter that deserves to sink not only Lynda Tabuya but her “bestie”, Barbara Malimali, who blocked a FICAC investigation into the allegation that Tabuya lied when she said she had been divorced for eight years and didn’t have to declare Rob Semaan’s income.

So Prime Minister, just get on with getting Lynda Tabuya out of the People’s Alliance and the parliament. Otherwise you don’t deserve to lead the Muanikau branch of the Jack Daniel’s Appreciation Society, let alone the nation as a whole.

And kindly comply with your legal duty to release the Christopher Pryde report and reinstate him as DPP.

Now.

POSTSCRIPT:

Before the last election when we were still on speaking terms, the Prime Minister’s chief propagandist, Matt Wilson, said that he had told “SLR” that “Graham Davis is a very dangerous man”.

Rabuka better believe it. Because my New Year’s resolution is to dog him all the way to the next election and make sure that he goes down in Fijian history as the most cancerous and destructive force in the nation’s history.

As I remember it after a few drinks, there were other resolutions of a more personal nature but that’s the principal one. Seriously. How many other people are fed up with all the excuses?

NOTE:

A number of personal attacks on the Semaan-Tabuya family have been disallowed in the comments section. Please confine your criticism to Lynda Tabuya’s conduct and that of her husband, where relevant.

Their children are out of bounds for the legitimate examination of Lynda Tabuya’s conduct as an MP.

There is little doubt that the change in regime that took place in December 2022 couldn’t have happened without Grubsheet and Graham Davis.

Without paying a cent, NFP and PAP had the best PR specialist in this part of the world , working for them.

However, it is important to note that at that time , Grubsheet was publishing on Facebook. For 80% of Fijians, their entire universe online is Facebook.

With Grubsheet no longer publishing on Facebook, it’s readership has been slashed by 75% to 90%. That is huge!

If Graham Davis is to be able to achieve his resolution of bringing down rabid racist Rambo and paedo Naiqama unless they mend their ways, he will need to restart publishing on Facebook.

He might feel that he has an axe to grind with Facebook but the reality is that as a mass medium, Facebook is very powerful and the most effective in a country like Fiji.

Facebook was and can still be the biggest tool in GD’s arsenal to repeat his 2022 feat. No one can write better than GD, and nothing can spread those powerful words better than Facebook in Fiji.

I don’t know where you get your figures from. “Readership slashed by 75-90 per cent?” You have no way of knowing that. And I can assure you that my readership figures are perfectly healthy.

I also don’t think you understand where I’m coming from. I may have had a mass audience with 30,000 followers on Facebook but I am less interested in numbers than who I am reaching. My target is people who are discerning and think. And you can tell from the quality of the comments here that I am reaching people who are not only educated but are engaged enough to sit down and actually commit their ideas to a keyboard.

My own life is also much less complicated. The bane of my existence on Facebook was having to constantly monitor the “comments” section there for inappropriate content (f**k off you white “c**t” etc) whereas here I can filter them at my leisure and remove the loony, defamatory or obscene.

Even more importantly, I have regained the ability to have my articles “googled” by Internet search engines. If I write a piece on anyone, it comes up in a Google search. So that if someone types in “Lynda Tabuya”, for instance, my articles on her come up with those of the mainstream media. This doesn’t happen with Facebook. You write something there and it gradually disappears into history. And you can’t go looking for it again in the same way.

So to summarise. It isn’t about how many people are reading Grubsheet, it is about who they are – thoughtful people, intelligent people, educated people, decision-makers perhaps. And certainly those who care enough about the future of the country to log on to a place where I am trying to provide a perspective they won’t get elsewhere and who can then contribute their own ideas, not just with one liners but for as long and as often as they like.

And it is about being back in a space where my articles have a permanent presence on the Internet rather than the fleeting and ephemeral single hit on Facebook. So yes, I might have lost numbers. But the question is whether I have lost influence with the people who really matter rather than the mob.

I don’t “write down” to my readers. I respect their intelligence and assume they are smart and committed. And we all appreciate the comments that are coming thick and fast on Grubsheet.

People tell me they keep coming back to individual articles to read what others have been saying about them over the hours. So I am perfectly happy where I am, with also none of the downsides of being in the bear pit of Facebook. And with Big Brother, Meta, as the ultimate adjudicator. Here I run the show. And also try to be entertaining.

So again, a big thank you to my readers and to every one of you, a Happy and Prosperous New Year! I especially appreciate those of you who have sent their thanks and best wishes to me over the festive season. We are all hoping for a better 2025 and an even better 2026, when this government faces the people and its own moment of truth.

With all due respect, it would be great if Grubsheet made a comeback to FB and X. Even if you just post the links to articles on your site and restrict comments.

After all, it’s the gullible masses that determine who is put in or out of power. The same gullible masses who believe everything they see on the socials. The same ones who need to be enlightened as to the disinformation and misinformation being circulated in the mainstream media as well.

Wishing you the very best for 2025 GD. Lots of prosperity and good health.

GD we are with you on this Christopher Pryde matter (and on a number of matters that you write about) but we think you are letting the man down.
The reasons for suspending Christopher Pryde is so woefully bad. He cannot be suspended for talking to ASK, just because Siromi did not like it and who has an inferior complex.
It is also evident that ASK clarified to the Tribunal during its hearing that Christopher Pryde and he did not talk about any cases pertaining to ASK.

The reason why Sharvada Sharma was suspended is not the same as Christopher Pryde.
Unfortunately by you saying it is the same, you are undermining Christopher Pryde. Christopher Pryde should not have ever been suspended.
Sharma on the other hand, if you see all the documents that were filed by his lawyers in Court and by the lawyers on the other side, did in fact have a number of serious allegations against him.
Also Sharma decided to follow the Judicial review path. So there has been no Tribunal. In Pryde’s matter a Tribunal in fact was appointed. And that Tribunal has given its findings to the President which has to be made public. There are no two ways about it.
You perhaps want to draw parallels between the matters but they are extremely different to each other. Maybe you are doing so you can justify your opposition (which meant support for Rabuka and Biman) to JVB and ASK during the last elections. In fact it was the then JSC chaired by the then Chief Justice Kamal Kumar which suspended Sharma.

Please get over the wrong call you made regarding your support for Biman and Rabuka. We can all live with our mistakes but we cannot let them affect or cloud our analysis of the present.
You are doing a good job with all your reports of the goings on but please don’t tarnish your reports because you want to justify your wrong call. And in this particular instance by doing so you are saying Pryde is like Sharma. Please don’t undermine Pryde.

By the way the Ditoka bloke who is now the official secretary to the president is a former lawyer with the AG’s office and then was with the Parliament team. He was removed or asked to remove himself from the Parliamentary staff because he was undermining the then Sec Gen to Parliament, Vini Namosimalua and had also shown political bias.
The bloke has been made OS because he was Lalabalavu’s choice. A transparent system does not work this way.
Anyway the point is that this guy if he is a lawyer worth his salt, (btw he is extremely arrogant), then he would advice Lalabalavu to stick to the Constitution and have the findings of the Pryde Tribunal immediately published. By the way he is Minister Ditoka’s nephew.
Sorry we cannot reveal our names as some of us are still within the system. And believe you us, there is no so called freedom as a public official under this Government. The previous guys were fair more liberal and just especially in constitutional adherence.
    Thank you.

You have got hold of the wrong end of the stick. The treatment of Christopher Pryde and Sharvada Sharma is the same in that the Constitution was ignored in both instances, first by FijiFirst in relation to Sharma and then the Coalition in relation to Pryde.

You say the “previous guys were far more liberal and especially in constitutional adherence”. They were not. And a terrible injustice was done to Sharvada Sharma that resulted in him being vindicated by a judge and awarded more than $3-million that the Coalition refuses to pay. So they are both as bad as each other.

    January 2, 2025 at 3:59 am

It’s starting. For the PM to publicly state that he is prepared to step aside should the PAP want a new direction in 2026, is the not so subtle way to say that he’s going to be pushed.
It’s probably becoming apparent to the PAP that he’s a political dead weight and has the potential to destroy PAP altogether come 2026.

The other observation is that Lynda is possibly manoeuvring her way back into the PAP hierarchy. She looks comfortable enough in the photos and even with habibi in the same environment.

So Rabuka knows that the writing is on the wall for him and PAP if he doesn’t get out of the way.

There is the law of the jungle in Fiji so the DPP saga is going to drag, unless, some clear thinking individual/s convince the evil trio that there is no way out but to reinstate Mr Pryde.

So the circus clowns begin their next act. It is really so laughable but tragically sad as we watch Fiji being destroyed bit by bit by these imbeciles.

I can bet my bottom dollar that Rabuka will not stand for election again in 2026.

    Why?

He cannot stand to be defeated again and finally go on his second and final political retirement with a heavy loss, personally and professionally.

He can not stand to be blamed by his supporters that he is the biggest reason that the party will lose in 2026.

The biggest question is: Who will be the next leader that will have the same political pull as him?

    I think of NO ONE!

Just like SVT in 1999, PAP is following the same path in 2026.

Sounds familiar? All iTaukei led and dominant parties always die a natural death. That is a feature of how iTaukei live their lives, almost nothing is sustainable!

Katakata ga va kuro kava! (The enthusiasm and energy turns on fast and also turns off quickly).

My bet is that Rambo will contest 2026 and serve another term as PM.

Wanna bet your vale on it? No, I didn’t think so. This government is on the skids. And it is all downhill from now till election day because they are grossly incompetent and unable to properly govern.

Now we have a fresh crisis in tourism with the rape of the Virgins – the airline staff – in Martintar within a couple of weeks of “Blinky Bill” and his matanivanua from Valagi proclaiming the country “safe”.

Watch this run big. Very big. Because it is one thing to ignore spiked drinks at one resort. But no-one wants to holiday where even foreign airline staff are assaulted and raped.

          I beg to disagree.

Vanua politics will win the day. The i’taukei will always vote for their own despite Rambo’s failings.

Under the 2013 Constitution elections are popularity contests.

Rambo knows all this and has strengthened the ‘CBM’ position in the equation. He will marshal his forces for 2026 and the ‘Vanua’ will play a key role in deciding the winner.

Yes, the iTaukei vote will be decisive. But why would they waste their vote on someone who has betrayed them?

The PAP is for the iTaukei elite and their kai vata, not for ordinary people and especially the marginalised and the poor.

The only leg-up they give is for themselves. Granting themselves massive pay rises on the pubic purse was proof enough of that.

            But do dream on.

What a loser of a leader. The country is still waiting for his reshuffle, now he jumps to another different topic about his readiness to step aside if his party wants to head in a new direction. For goodness sake make up yr mind about where you want to go. His government just released its major directions document – a national vision, 3-year and 30 year development plan, and because he doesn’t trust locals to do the job for him he brought in a string of foreign consultants to produce white papers snd policy documents for him.

Moreover, rising lawlessness in the streets, the drop in purchasing over the festive season leading to a huge carry-over of Christmas stock and the PM going missing in action when floods hit the western division over the festive season are signs all is not well in the state of Denmark.

You are absolutely right, GD the PM should get on with governing or get out, my goodness is this the best Cakaudrove and QVS can produce? You will be doing a service to the people of Fiji by yr decision to hound this dude every step of the way to the next election.

That’s because Rabuka is the eternally petulant child of Fijian politics, both by logic and action. He flees where actual leaders stand in. And lead.

In 1987, when he couldn’t handle the rejection of the iTaukei-dominant Alliance Party, he took over government with a gun.

In 1999, when he couldn’t stomach the electoral outcome that banished his SVT into Opposition, he fled politics and joined the GCC.

In 2000, when he felt he didn’t like the RFMF leadership, he rolled up to the QEB in anticipation of a military leadership tilt.

More recently, when he couldn’t handle the SDL leadership, he fled and formed the PAP.

Rabuka and his declining faculties are suitable for PET collection and recycling, the one endeavour he actually excelled in prior to his return to politics.

I know your minions are reading this, Rambo. I hope they have the intestinal fortitude to spell it out to you as it is.

GD I’ve admired you forever ! As a former journalist too- your wit and the color in which you see things always excites me even in their worst form. Rabuka and his band of thieves : adulterers and whores : con man and con women and I say this as bluntly as I can are just a reflection of the kind of society Fiji has conjured up because of the nature of Fijians to be envious of those who do better than themselves including Indo Fijians and their own family members too- no puns intended ! It’s who Fijians are- vile and disgusting with all the fake ass attitude and entitled demenours.

Just know that Rabuka is in too deep with Lynda. Not only are they sexual partners for a very long time which is why he brought her into Sodelpa in 2018 after he became party leader- which he did without getting approval from the Sodelpa Board and AGM where any form of coalition or partnership needs that level of endorsement – he has used her and Rob to pay of hundreds of thousands of tax he owed to govt . He will always be in their pockets !

Lynda and Rob after stealing those millions from the fat removal scam in the US cannot surely reveal how much of that money they still have and what assets they’ve been able to take from their creditors.

Fiji may be a long way away from the US- but should Lynda have stayed married to Rob, they would have to declare all their assets. The plan then is to transfer everything to Rob and he keeps the stash for them! Mind you Lynda is the asset Rob is the mastermind willing to pimp the mother of some of their children. Note two of those kids are not Robs- one belongs to Seruvatu the lawyer !

Lynda and Rob planned to have her become PM. Rabuka has publicly said she can be PM. That would be icing on the cake for their scams. Even without being PM- PBS is earning million dollars contracts from the Fiji govt ! Just as Lynda pays off all her voters by buying their loyalty through cash or kind- her ACS ex school mates and her friends like Barbara Malimali are nothing but just a few thousand dollars to keep happy and declare her clean !

The rest you already know GD

I observe most of the time the source (GS) has been acknowledged in those copied posts, but not always. Jaioji Savou has done this. “Joe Ratu” as well. And I’m sure there have been other prominent fb users who have reposted. Where the original author was not acknowledged and having previously read GS and seeing the same content elsewhere tells me the article was copied from GS but without mentioning the original source. As well as being complimentary to Grubsheet for his efforts being recognized by other intelligent people who follow what’s going on in Fiji, it means some of your posts are getting onto facebook and hopefully being read by those who do not come to your webpage. Hoping the critical mass of the audience will increase to the stage of being enough voters to make another change of Govt next elections.

Fiji appears to be going savage. Whether this is bottled up rage, drug and alcohol abuse or anger from being in poverty, low wages and no work, whatever it is this Coalition did not make it a priority.

We all have watched the daily decline and yet the Coalition has still not brought in a new trained, intelligent and non corrupted police force even as we all are watching the nation go crazy. Why? Is it laziness or does it suit them to have their own people in the force to decide what gets buried?

It was very short sighted to pour millions into fiji tourism marketing campaigns while not seeing that tourism will be greatly affected if money is also not put into a new police force, stopping drugs, education and being accountable to what happens to tourists.

In my opinion, the PM should be personally checking on the individuals in the Pina Colada incident and making sure they get their lab results. To brush it under the rug will have serious consequences. Now there is another serious issue.

Locals and foreigners need to be protected and responded to when they call for help. Some police posts don’t even have vehicles yet Lynda Tabuya takes her pay raise!

Something sinister is cooking here GD.

My bet is that Rob S has got the Fijian Government by its neck and he is playing everyone in this scheme. Now remember that his and Lynda are scammers from overseas.

If this guy was a committed husband and who respected his children then won’t he come out in public and declare what his marital status is and how he is hurt or harmed by all the political menace towards him? Just think about it for a minute.

Why is he quiet? Is he using his Fijian wife as a political power money making porn? I have a feeling that he is.

Watch how he turns up to a Christmas function for PAP. The same party that has stood his wife down and now removed her from the ministerial post. Before this Linda relayed that they are divorced. Why is he there? What benefits him?

Rob is to be watched closely. He holds lots of cards and these are all the cards that can send Fiji government into a spiral of chaos and destruction.

I am sure that I am reading way too deep into this thread but I do have a feeling that the control sits elsewhere. Where there is money, power, control.

Yes, you’re much better off here – out of the gutter of Facebook.
There’s no point in dwelling on your endorsement of this coalition, that was then. The focus of story now should be on their failure to perform, the dishonesty and the money. If they had performed, you’d be singing their praises. But that hasn’t happened.
The key thing here is Fijians expect better of their leaders. Whether it was the last two or the current group, there’s been too much self-serving and looking after friends going on. And we can all see through woe me, time to retire spin.
As you’re doing, keep following the dishonest agenda and the money.

What a lot of people don’t realise is, even if a married couple had applied for a divorce, and they ‘get back together’, that individual is now legally your defacto. Under law, a candidate for elections is also required declare assets and liabilities of a defacto. An individual like Lynda will continue to bury herself in her own lies.

Clearly she is not a good lawyer. She denied the authenticity of the viber messages, and now accepts that her nude video was for her husband. The viber messages contain still shots from the video. The viber messages were authentic. The video she accepts is authentic. Where to now Lynda? What other lies will you tell us?

I’m in no mood to give these fools another 2 years. This has been the most depressing Christmas and New Years. Even more depressing than 2022, because over the last 2 years, any hope that people like me had in these fools doing better, or becoming statesman and stateswomen, is now lost.

They are barbarians. They do not care for the people. I’ve also noticed that the people are becoming dumber and dumber under Rabuka’s leadership. How else do you explain 13k reactions to a video of Rabuka playing the bloody harmonica? The video has now been replaced with his New Years message, in the same post. Edit History of the post shows that he uploaded the harmonica video, took that down, and replaced it with his new year message.

The whole lot of them are dumb. If you faced criticism over a video, why not delete the post altogether, and why leave your edit history on. But of course, why upload THAT to begin with! Do the people really want to see you playing the harmonica on NYE? No. Well… this is why I said people are getting dumber and dumber. 13k seem to like that video. FFS.

Fully accept your point but it’s not that many. Even I had 30,000 followers on Facebook. Don’t forget a lot of those people watching the harmonica-playing PM aren’t applauding his performance but wondering how desperate he must be if these are his antics. He might be a good harmonica player but in terms of governing, he is next to useless. They are a complete rabble and are toast.

A couple of years ago I had the unfortunate experience of going to community police post near Lautoka to report the theft of my cattle.
When I got there, I was met by an individual cutting grass in the compound. I later found out that he was the SO.
Anyway I explained to him the reason for me being there. He stated that he was on his own and that the other officer on duty was attending to another incident. He said that he could be a while as he had to use public transport there as the community post did not have a vehicle. I offered to go collect him in my vehicle but was refused as the as the SO said he would arrange his ride.
The SO then said that he hoped the government would have funds set aside so that they could be better equipped to be mobile in order to the serve their community better.
Anyway after another wait, the office arrived on a bus. He then took my statement and the rest is history.

So what does the Coalition do when they got into power?
    An $8,000,000 salary increase.
Has the above mentioned Community Police Post got a vehicle yet? No!!!

So much for being a better custodian and a rural community focused government.

All this carry on about a certain women in government who is unable to keep the two together is just sucking air out of the urgently needed development that the country needs.
Any wonder why the crime rate and the criminal activities are on the increase? The police are being deprived of basic resources needed to assist them to effectively carry out their responsibilities.
The Virgin incident in Nadi is just the beginning.

    Solution?
    Get this government out asap!!!

None of them should be shown any sympathy come 2026. No not one!!!

Is this the same police post that did not show up for the women in the Lautoka Hotel? They allegedly stayed up all night and nobody came at all. Imagine two women being robbed and you call the police and nobody shows up. Then she begs a minister to help and he says he’s is too drunk to help her! She has now pleaded with the PM, will he respond or is he too busy playing the harmonica.
I’d call it a Banana Republic but that’s an insult to bananas.
Meanwhile where is Shamima Ali and Lynda Tabuya to support these two women. I am utterly disgusted!

    Darkening clouds over Fiji!
Fiji’s situation is becoming increasingly dire. The country seems to be on the brink of failure, with nothing working as it should. The need for an alternative government is palpable—but the question remains: who can rise to the challenge?

To move forward, Fiji must unite the opposition against the current regime and form a credible coalition, even if it requires compromise. While the world progresses, Fiji continues to regress. An alternative government is essential to halt this decline and steer the nation towards recovery.

The next election will be critical. However, given the cunning political manoeuvres of the current leadership, it’s likely they will secure re-election, potentially with a stronger majority. The National Federation Party (NFP) may not survive this time, as support—even from traditional allies like Ram Lulla—wanes.

To overcome this predicament, Fiji must mobilize its people, embrace democracy, and prioritize fair play. A credible, united alternative as government with a clear vision for modernization and reform is urgently needed. The nation’s infrastructure, leadership, and governance are failing, but there is still hope.

Let us work towards an epiphany—towards common sense and a collective strategy to establish a better government that Fiji truly deserves. A change in government seems like the only answer.

As we welcome the New Year, let us also wish for a Fiji that rebuilds itself into a model for our neighbors and beyond. Together, we can create a brighter future for our beloved country. The current regime has proven they cannot do this.

Happy New Year for us all, hopefully!

All PAP ministers will become greedy by the time their 4 years in office is up and they will think they are invisible. These is a common problem in politics and is very common in Fiji because the Fijians have that mind set and get corrupt very quickly as we have seen this cycle over and over again.

If you look closely at every ministry and talk to people from within the government it is shocking to hear the level of back door deals that is going on which is also visible by the appointments at every level. This is only because every minister thinks they do have to go by the oath they took and they can have their goons around them so it will be easier to milk the system.

By the end of this 4 years PAP will surely fall apart as a party.

The same thing happened to me. I had to give the officer a ride in order to show evidence and get my statement. After all that months later I find out the officer never read or looked at any evidence as was illiterate. I specifically requested someone competent and they went out of their way to give me someone incapable to handle my case. This is how they avoid arrests or doing any work at all. I am an investor into Fiji. Nobody has helped me.
To date they have not made an arrest or done anything.
What kind of joke if a police force is this without vehicles. And selectively showing up if the victims are someone they want to help is appalling. No police officer showed up for these women last night. Has anyone attended to them yet? What a disgrace.

The Fiji Police Force is a shambles. There’s no disputing the fact.

    1. The Namaka/Nadi police are deep in with the drug dealers. If there is a raid to be carried out within those principalities, the Suva branch is secretly advised and they turn up without prior notice to do raids etc. What inner sources have revealed is that if the Namaka/Nadi stations are advised, the criminals are forwarned and all evidence hidden.

    2. The Traffic Officers who do roadside checks and RBT/RDT and license checks, negotiate deals with the drivers who fail these checks. I was in n one such situation in late 2023 so I know exactly what I’m taking about.

There’s obviously many more tales similar to these, so there is one thing that is very very clear is the huge corruption within the force and the inability of the current government to take action.
What else can we expect when police officers are probably on $120/week?

Rabuka has no idea or plan in place to even think of doing anything.

Banana Republic, it’s not the same Police Post if I’m correct.

Police officers in Savusavu and Labasa are so good. They attend promptly. Simply because the public has to provide them the transportation. Then they get the goat, chicken, lobsters. Just ask them. They are the best in Fiji. Even past thieves are now police officers in Savusavu. They know who they are. Some have even robbed the bank.

Dated at Suva this 30th day of May 2024.
    J. EMBERSON
    Secretary-General to Parliament

Start>I have cut and pasted above from the PDF of this Gazette notice this particular section – as I observe it has a critical period of validity as noted below: UNTIL 31 DEC 2024.
Who should be on the ball on this matter – so that the Ministers are NOT paid the increased package past the end of Dec 2024. Or have I gone senile in my understanding of the effective date of the increased ministerial allowances and salary benefits being only for the period noted.
I would hope J Emberson, if they are still in the role, is aware of this. What about the PM! So that the MP’s don’t get paid more than what has been gifted them by the Queen of Tarts committee and themselves and for a period beyond what is legislated. End>

The Coalition cares for the elites only. One just has to see the government’s selective application of rules. Hardworking lowly paid rubbish collectors are exposed to health hazards as they are never required to wear masks to protect them against the awful odour of rubbish while riding and emptying bins all day.

The Labour Ministry is more focused on NEC issues for free trips to ANZ while the Local Government Department is still grappling with holding municipal elections. Come on, Boso’s, please wake up and apply the occupational and health and safety rules equally to everyone.

By the way Graham, we have reached the halfway mark of the Coalition’s term in office. Any latest news on the new political movement known to be developing below the radar, as reported in GS last year, to displace and replace the current corrupt lot at the next elections?

From memory, I recall some years back Rabuka threw down the challenge that he and Bainimarama should both withdraw from politics for the good of Fiji and if Frank left politics so would he , but Rabuka did not go on to quit.

Maybe he couldn’t resist the last temptation of winning an election to gain the redemption he needed to try to right his past before his mortal days reached their end as it does for us all.

On Tabuya , perhaps he saw her as a soul he could save , which suits his image of himself as a pastoral carer and possibly why unsuitable MPs are not weeded out from the party or the parliament .

Fiji could be a thriving country , her people work hard and are resilient. These wasted years are seeing an exit of people that the Fiji needs . This is the tragedy of 37 years of hand to mouth living for many Fijians . God bless and guide Fiji to better days .

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
