What you looking at?says
The Chief Justice has lost his authority, the Government is now legless (before they were just rudderless) and has no more authority, the Acting DPP has no more authority and the whole judicial system is now questionable. And whose fault is all this? Yes, as always, it is some one elses fault.
Time for a clean up of the whole government system. This is what happens when you put a recycled crackpot from 37 years ago in charge. But wait, there is more embarrassment to come. You have only seen the clowns so far, the monkeys are yet to appear.
Fiji is a true Third World country and everyone is doing their part to ensure it remains a proud Third World nation. The biggest monkeys are the people of Fiji. Let me qualify that, there are a lot of monkeys in Fiji, what is sad is that they do not who they are.
The lady Magistrate failed miserably in her handling of the case. Wonder why it was given to her in the first place? Totally out of her depth. Made a mockery of the Fiji Judicial system. The charge of abuse of power is never trivial, especially if the one charged is the Prime Minister, the one who shud be leading by example.there are important legal principles that could have been brought out into the open. The responsibility of a public officer to discharge his duties without bias. Duty of care. Presumption of innocence. Seperation of powers. A whole host of them.
Rules of precedent and sentencing guidelines exist on penalties to be imposed. And particulars of the case, here we had a former coup maker and dictator, not some inside clerk in a public office. The person had previously flouted the supreme law of the land, had abused power as military commander, had disrespected chiefs by telling them to go and drink home brew under the mango tree. The case of abuse of office should. be put in this context. It cannot by any space of imagination be described as “trivial,” as the Magistrate did
A sad day for Fiji
