The Military is behind all this. Perhaps lower ranks below the Commnader. Secret operations must have been working behind scenes with the Magistrate. Well appeal DPP should appeal. Well there are other pending cases and some under investigations. They all will have similar fate. This is a “Conspiracy” between several parties and characters (a show trial-Drama). Look at the persons who gave character reference are they themselves beyond reproach. Perhaps several former and current Military are involved in this.

The irony of it is that your take on the “conspiracy” is in itself a theory based on conspiracy ????

Nonsense. This was a flimsy case to begin with. No-one from USP has been convicted or charged, so where is the perversion of justice. It should not have even reached this far. Kudos to the magistrate.

Agree. I read the court docs and tried to find the rock solid hard evidence. Couldn’t really see much of merit. Case should not have got to this stage – wasted so much resources all around, including state, defence and all those external stakeholders whether directly affected or just in curiosity.
If the witch-hunt is sought and merited, there may be other actions to pursue if backed by credible admissible facts, rather than hysteria and personal vandetta .
Good on the magistrate, shows some spine and a hopeful glimpse of operational robustness of some elements of the Fijian judiciary. She has however, let the process of due process , to take its course and wash her hands clean of the death blow of the dagger being struck by the original schemers…as it looks like will eventuate after Easter.

And you know this how? Conspiracy theories are just that, unproven BS. You don’t mention the village idiot AG meddling in everything. Why offer immunity in the drug case? Why not lower/lighter sentence in exchange for stitching? How much value will the immunity testimony hold in court. The defence will poke holes in anthing they say. Or the state does not have a strong case? Immunity? Wtf!

Back to the ex-PM and suspended compol. The law does not include nor considers revenge and vengeance. The law is the law is the law. The defence attorneys are no slouches. Now the government will appeal their own appeal only because the verdicts did not go there way. And who in their right mind files a new appeal almost immediately, the same day FFS?? Are they mad? If state is so sure of guilt maybe the high might have considered a retrial. Careful now, there is such a thing called double jeopardy. And if the coin flips, watch out! The circus might soon fold tent. Clowns.

    Coalition got lucky.

Blood would have spilled the streets starting with Acting CJ and all the DPP, followed by the ministers.

Kalouniwai is a joke who won’t last much longer.

    This is not over.

Qilihio fined $1500 to affect his reinstatement as COMPOL. Simple
Remember, appeal was made by convicted Acting DPP and few members in judiciary

This is an appropriate outcome. We all know Rabuka is trying to pin his political opponents down, in order to remain in the chair as PM. This witch-hunt has to stop. Get back to governing and improving the quality of life for all Fijians.

The useless Coalition and the useless and illegally appointed ADPP can now get on and do some real work.

One thing is for sure. The lion is awake and take no chances that this is the end of Bainimarama.

What we have seen in Fiji today is the disregard for the law for a while. Getting a woman magistrate to do their dirty job just backfired. Hail the magistrate.

$1.5k in fines and probably $15k in legal fees. Based on the number of cases pending, he will be financially ruined by this time next year.

Amidst this circus, urgent issues plague Fiji, demanding attention. Rampant crime, escalating poverty, the encroachment of criminal syndicates with their illicit activities, a worrying decline in education standards, the steady exodus of talent to foreign lands, and the relentless deterioration of our economy—all portend a perilous journey toward becoming a failed state.

We implore those in power to prioritize the welfare of our country and its people over personal vendettas and egos. Without internal unity, external forces will exploit our vulnerabilities with impunity. We refuse to be pawns in a game where our capabilities are disregarded and our sovereignty violated. Let us not be seduced by the superficial offerings of external powers; our very essence is at stake. Fiji is highly targeted because of the geo-political positioning and laxity in managing criminal activities encroaching our shores. And our leaders seem to have have opened us up to the highest bidder! (as per the 60mins interview).

If our leaders succumb to bribery and coercion, we risk losing everything we hold dear. We need firm and authoritative leadership to ward off big international crime elements exploiting Fiji and controlling our way of life. May divine intervention guide Fiji through these tumultuous times.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
