# NO LONGER PACIFIC

Disturbingly similar. The skies above Nouméa. And the skies above Gaza.

There goes the neighbourhood. A photo essay in the Guardian Australia of the unfolding tragedy in New Caledonia. Just 1300 kilometres from Fiji.

Fiji was blessed by far sighted policies where land could only be leased not purchased from the indigenous population for 90% of the land ,and in the end independence was a peaceful transition, a very different situation to New Caledonia and indeed before that Vanuatu due to strong French opposition there as well. Before that Algeria had a long and very bloody and violent battle for independence due to entrenched French settlers who were opposed to the indigenous population,s desire for independence and control and ownership of their own land.

I actually said something similar last night. Throw PNG and the other Pacific Island nations and we have a huge power get exploding.

    May God help us all.

No word of support for and in solidarity with the Indigenous Kanak people’s demand for self determination by this Coalition Government. Hypocrites.
Maybe its because the French have got imperialist loving Rabuka by the balls on this foreign policy issue. He would rather visit his masters in England to part take in some military pomp and ceremonial military parade.
Assuming that if the French colonialists invited him to Paris he would jump at the invitation dressed up to show off his good for nothing medals.
Recall his nemesis, the late former PM, Dr Timoci Bavadra being a staunch supporter of the Kanak’s demand for self determination back in the day. Just saying.

If given the encouragement and opportunity Fijians are capable of equal if not worse doings to Fiji. History has documented what we can do as well…1987 and 2000.

This government encourages violence and racism each day.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
