What has prompted the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, to do a complete backflip on appointing Lynda Tabuya as minister for information? Last week it was all in the bag, with the Prime Minister expressing the view that she would be good in the job and PAP’s Vice President, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, endorsing the idea.
And then in today’s Fiji Times, blat! Lynda’s hopes squashed like a toad on the Queen’s Road. A stunning slap-down that has humiliated the Queen of Tarts and will take that strut out of her that she’s flaunted in everyone’s faces in recent days thinking she was back on her perch.
What has caused the Prime Minister’s change of heart? Is he ultimately blaming Lynda for the story reportedly being spread by Manoa Kamikamica that she is the source of the PM’s gold Rolex? Was she meant to immediately repudiate the story instead of letting it fester so that it is now in the mainstream media and doing the PM grave damage?
Oops. Something has definitely happened to turn the Prime Minister so decisively against his former pet. Is it that she just can’t resist being back in the limelight and is beginning to dominate the media once again, reminding everyone of what an egotistical strumpet she really is?
Or did someone sensible get in Rabuka’s ear and tell him that putting Lynda Tabuya in as information minister and the face of Fiji in the election lead-up would just alert foreign journalists to her porn video and her “weed” and illicit sexcapade in Room 233? That this would be the image of Fijian women portrayed to the world and would only be remotely positive if Fiji wants to market itself as a sex tourism destination?
Maybe it was Lynda Tabuya’s folly of going to Sydney for the weekend for her uncle’s birthday and grabbing a quick shot of herself outside the Parramatta Police Station and claiming that she had filed an official complaint against Alex Forwood when she hadn’t? And it was the wrong police station anyway because she was 25 kilometres away from the headquarters of the Australian Federal Police who handle cyber complaints?
That photo was on the front page of the Fiji Times with Lynda saying she was also determined to pursue Victor Lal at Fijileaks when neither he nor Alex Forward could have possibly leaked the porn video.
Or maybe Sitiveni Rabuka has just got sick of the whole sorry saga of Lynda Tabuya’s outrageous conduct, her misuse of the matanigasau and her embarrassment to the chiefs and people of Kadavu. Or constantly stealing the limelight at official events with seemingly more shoes than Imelda Marcos or more pairs of spectacles than Elton John. Or doing nothing to allay the fears of other ministerial wives that their husbands might be next for a “brutal” knee trembler that would leave them unable to walk. Or help with the dishes.
Or is it the rumours of more pornographic videos still in the pipeline and being held back closer to the election. Kemudou! Can you imagine? The minister for information trying to explain the D’Hondt electoral system to a pack of visiting Aussie journos when all they can think about is… well, you know the rest.
Whatever it is, Lynda’s dreams have turned to dust at the breakfast table this morning.

All of which again leaves wide open the question of who gave the Prime Minister the gold Rolex. Surely he wouldn’t be crushing Lynda’s hopes so cruelly if it was her?

Herein is the complete and utter failure of the Coalition. Parliament is not the place to learn how to behave. It is a place to lead and serve the people of the nation. Rabuka needs to resign, or better still, a vote of no confidence and snap elections. He has lost the plot, and the government has lost its way.

Rabuka will kill his own to remain in the leadership. He mentions this in Chapter 3 of his biography. He trained his elite army of 60 to kill their own if they have to too.

I was somewhat surprised that MoE has Mrs Radrodro as their chief guest for women in leadership recently. What on the actual conflict of interest and greasing is going on in this country. We have certainly fallen short of women of respectable leadership in the country. It is just a shame and an absolute disgrace. Anywhere else there would be a “point of order” in the parliament and a demand for an explanation for such an extravagant gift. But not in Rabuka’s Fiji.
He is all over the place. One week promising Tabuya a ministry, the next withdrawing it because is her poor behaviour. For God’s sake, she’s been behaving poorly ever since the antics in Room 233 in August 2023. And undoubtedly a lot longer before that.
There is another possible explanation for the PM’s backflip – what he might have learnt about Tabuya’s false income declaration to the Elections Office. If there is an adverse finding against her from the COI, it could result in criminal charges.
Rabuka has shown repeatedly that he is an abject failure as a prime minister. He goes back on his decisions, has no control over his government ministers and word from within is that he doesn’t even control cabinet. The ministers all go off on different tangents, showing there is no unity within his inner cabal.
He lacks the confidence of his own party who are only keeping him there because of his followers. He was better off bottle collecting, given he was able to do that one thing properly and make a living off it.
2026 is too far off – the people of Fiji should demand snap elections now and boot these apes out of power.
