# OUR BANANA REPUBLIC IN THE GLOBAL SPOTLIGHT 2

Posted on September 8, 2024 19 Comments

Information is starting to flow into Grubsheet in response to our appeal for whistleblowers to join us in exposing the corruption of the Coalition government in the wake of its assault on FICAC and the installation of its stooge, Barbara Malimali, to block the investigations of Coalition ministers.

We will be publishing these stories – one of which is of startling national significance – in due course. But the assault on the integrity of our institutions of state is now also being covered by the international media, which in this instance, is proving just as focused on the main issues as the Fiji Sun, which on Saturday called for the Coalition government and the Prime Minister to stand down.

Here’s Radio New Zealand on the FICAC scandal. And its coverage is now doing serious damage to the Coalition’s image throughout the Pacific – RNZ’s principal target audience.

All of these people are setting the highest standards – Fiji style.
Someone has to maintain Fiji’s Third World standards. These people combined have the ideal qualifications, experience and character to maintain the highest Third World standards and they all are very proud to serve. Just ask them.

Wow. Has Leung taken leave of his senses?

From across the pond it looks like he’s decided to ride his high horse right over the rule of law, trampling it and then letting his horse defecate on it.

The Miss Universe scandal (where a married woman not entitled to enter the contest is declared a winner over a much younger, single, prettier Indian contestant) , the Director of Public Prosecution’s (Rabuku’s) fall from grace and humiliation, the shameless weed smoking Minister still in the cabinet, the Chief Justice’s role in intervening and imprisoning the former Prime Minister, the allegations of potentially serious malfeasance by some half a dozen or so senior gov’t ministers, including the incumbent PM and his Deputy, the shenanighans in the FICAC, the continuing injustice to Pryde’s grievance, and in any Western democracy a single incidents would have resulted in a public inquiry or bringing the government down.

But not in Fiji, it seems that the iTaukei people can’t even assemble a bunch of their cohorts to register and protest against the farce that has taken place. It has taken two non-residents Fijians; the Grubsheet and the Fijileaks to be banging the drums on behalf of the silent majority. Just what is going on with the iTaukei population?

Even in Tonga there was Mr Pohiva and the Pro Democracy movement,
EVEN in China there was the Tank Man – the brave man who stood jn front of the Army’s advancing tanks in Tiananeman Square.
The Arab Spring jn Egypt. Women protesting in the streets of Tehran!
In Fiji ?? Majority are probably not bothered, or unaware of how they are being fleeced, being preoccupied with finding the genuine pure Waka and having the mix. Waiting for their turn for a free chow at the Grand Pacific or next door at the Inn. The mission was accomplished in the last election Dec 2022 – getting rid of one of the best local politicians the country has had because he dared to dream and plan a modern and progressive Fiji ( Yes accepted ASK had his faults but still comparatively with the current lot of parliamentarians and on his own merits, he is head and shoulders above the thugs in power now).
So it’s time to sleep now for most of the subjects while their elites, the hangers on and the wanna be’s run the show with glee.
To the small minority in Fiji who are awake and aware – stand up for yourself, for the person next to you who cannot stand up, but more so for the future generations.
PS In fairness The Miss Universe winner Fiasco should not be blamed on the current govt or the ministry who would have had oversight of the event…seems like another dodgy “business venture” of the cult like leader Aussie Jamie Macintyre…a wolf in sheep’s clothing in my observation of his previous activities.

Remembering Mohamed Bouazizi: The man who sparked the Arab Spring
In December 2010, a Tunisian fruit and vegetable vendor set himself on fire in the town of Sidi Bouzid and triggered the Arab Spring.

RNZ is one of the most reputable media in NZ and the Pacific now.

I am more intrigued to know when did Leung or anyone contact the 5 people in FEO and who are electoral commissioners to get letters of confirmation about Malimali. What was the rationale for this?

Fiji has 2 media journalists with spine.
One is Victor Lal and the other is Graham Davis.
    Both don’t live in Fiji.
Shows how clueless Fijian media is in Fiji.

Too much crocodile tears and kere vei vosoti is holding this country back. We all make mistakes but we must determine not to make the same while at the same time taking ownership. The itaukei are too short sighted in this regards hence why the despots in government know how to manipulate and deceive them. Our false smiles says it all.

I’ve already said before that John Kalouniwai (and the President Willie “Box of Tricks”) need to save Fiji democracy from these politicians.

    It’s getting worse.

You GD are a true patriot for creating an Avenue for other patriotic Fijians concerned about our country to secretly pass information to you to reveal the corruption and poor decision-making by this abhorrent lot.

Make no mistake, what we are seeing unfold before our very eyes is state capture by a grouo of cunning and desperate political gangsters..

Shouldn’t Leung should be fired for suggesting that Pulewai’s actions were due to her not getting the commissioner appt.
And Pulewai should sue Leung for defamation.

That is very unprofessional and inappropriate for Leung, the AG to be making try to make Pulewai look bad.

Please may the best legal team in Fiji step up and represent Pulewai. I believe she has a case and should get her job back, this is absolutely outrageous even for the banana republic.
It’s obvious that there is a pact that all the currupt stick together.
This is how bully’s try to keep the good people silent.
Thank you GD for helping to save Fiji.

I often wonder if everyone reacting to your posts, GD ,are living outside Fiji and therefore react viscerally (if that is the right word!) without reading the statements or knowing any of the characters involved.
To rant and behave like Donald Trump calling names doesn’t really help anyone form an opinion….and that’s a trend of many comments which often cross the line.
Leung makes a very valid point about trend of passing judgement in the court of public opinion. Plus we also know that FICAC was set up as a tool of the previous government to persecute and suppress anyone who didn’t toe the Dictators’ line.
So perhaps the case against Malimali is more fiction? She has a solid reputation; maybe she is the right person to reset this institution…or maybe they should just scrap Ficac so it cannot be abused like it seemingly always has been by the previous government.

Wrong. Ficac is a redux baby of the original thug and dictator SLR created in 1987 as Fiji intelligence service.

Where one lives -Fiji or abroad, is either here nor there. We are Fijians.

Much is made of the previous lot (no saints, they were) 2 years after the fact. That in itself shows a dire shortage of real intelligence to move on and implement development.

Ar try to match or come close to what the previous lot achieved. Nor did they give themselves 80% pay rises with duty perks.

No one remembers post-independence the Alliance one party rule for near 20 years. Nothing to show for it. Other than a jeap of horse manure about multiculturalism until 1987 came around.

Then we had mega racist, religious fanatics of SLR from 1989 to 1997.
One month of Bavadra. One year of Labor government.

Each change of government has had two common denominators: SLR and the military.

BTW, what do we make of the 70m+ Trump supporters? The election hasn’t happened yet and Trump say it is rigged already.

      Gimme a break.

No a lot of comments are from people living in Fiji too. The visceral reaction in the comments I believe are frustrated people watching. It’s not normal for people at the top of National Leadership to behave like this with the scandals.

I am very thankful to Grubsheet and FijiLeaks and their mighty blow torches.

    2nd class:
How can it be established that a lot of comments are from within Fiji.
Or to view that most comments are from overseas Fijians.
Of course there are clues in the pseudonyms used, the style of writing perhaps.
Why it matters is if there is silence from within Fiji on these matters raised it could mean a disinterest or disagreement or even denial of any wrongdoing going on. And just storms in kava bilos created by non resident vulagi troublemakers!
Fijians living abroad generally view these matters in the light of the environment they are in…hopefully more civil, more democratic and equal citizenry among other developed social indicators.
A good Fijian rugby player gets even better playing in Australia/NZ or Europe.
The Fijian frog could be offended or see no merit in the “outsiders” shouting at the frog to jump out of the pot that the frog’s masters are slowly turning up the heat on! When the water boils to the point the frog cannot survive it is too late, but it wonders how it got there. Isa lei!

Hang on a sec, just got back from the milking shed and missed this development.

So now we are tryng to headhunt the messengers? How predictable in a thuggish third world benign bylly dictorship. Full of low moral ministers, adulterers, thieves, rapists, violent sadist sex offenders, weed smoking wanna be sex.symbols. All with ear splitting bible thumping preaching well into the nights-everyday. Whoever they looking for must be deaf.

IP addresses? Fishing much? Living in Fiji or anyplace else in the world does not, should not matter.

The message matters. Focus on the message. Leave the messengers alone.

As for the donkey baimaan, saying this gubmint allows free speech then avoid answering the question is not free speech. Freedumb.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.

Comments are welcome and you can contact me in the strictest confidence at grubsheetfeedback@gmail.com

(Feejee is the original name for Fiji - a derivative of the indigenous Viti and the Tongan Fisi - and was widely used until the late 19th century)
