Posted on November 21, 2021 5 Comments

The snap decision by the Chair of the Electoral Commission, Suresh Chandra, to resign amid allegations of misuse of legal trust funds has presented the Minister Responsible for Elections, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, with an almighty headache. The pool of people who can be appointed Chair is extremely shallow. And with the nation poised to dive into … [Read more...] about # A POISONED CHALICE

If anyone is wondering why the Fijian media hasn't reported the details of my reporting of the Prime Minister's secret role in the sacking of the Solicitor General, his alleged action in shutting down a police drug investigation into a close family member or his Attorney General's alleged behaviour in inviting his female staff to give him massages … [Read more...] about # A MEDIA GAGGED. Astonishing details are emerging of the secret role played by the Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, in the removal of the Solicitor General, Sharvada Sharma, which has triggered a constitutional crisis in Fiji months out from the 2022 election. # THE VENTRILOQUIST AND HIS DUMMY

Posted on November 16, 2021 5 Comments

Frank Bainimarama cannot have a formal meeting with anyone of consequence without it being fully scripted for him, which is why his iPad or a set of notes comes between him and anyone who sits down with him, as in these pictures from COP26. It is the way in which Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum maintains total control over the Prime Minister. Because … [Read more...] about # THE VENTRILOQUIST AND HIS DUMMY

# THE RULE OF LAW CRUMBLES

When solemn promises before God are broken, a nation grieves for its future. "I, Jioji Konousi Konrote, swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the Republic of Fiji, and that I will obey, observe , uphold and maintain the Constitution of the Republic of Fiji and all other laws of Fiji... So help me, God! " "I, Kamal … [Read more...] about # THE RULE OF LAW CRUMBLES

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
