#YET ANOTHER SELF INFLICTED KHAIYUM DISASTER

Posted on September 22, 2020 21 Comments

Shooting yourself in the foot

As my old Grubsheet sparring partner, Dr Marc Edge, observed in the wake of the attack on me by the Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, on Sunday, "there is no such thing as bad publicity", and so it has proved to be. I would like to say that I can scarcely believe the ineptitude of the Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, in encouraging the PM to … [Read more...] about #YET ANOTHER SELF INFLICTED KHAIYUM DISASTER

#THE BEGINNING OF THE END?

Posted on September 21, 2020 28 Comments

True to form, the Fiji Sun has tried to please its political masters in government by burying the latest results of the Fiji Sun/Western Force research poll published in today's edition of the paper. It leads with the relatively unremarkable news that the Fiji Labour Party has "leapfrogged the smaller parties to secure third place after FijiFirst … [Read more...] about #THE BEGINNING OF THE END?

# FRANK BAINIMARAMA “SLAMS” GRAHAM DAVIS

Posted on September 20, 2020 23 Comments

Stung by successive Grubsheet articles revealing how the military wants changes to the government and also revealing the name of his designated successor, Frank Bainimarama has made an astonishing personal attack on me on the front page of the government-controlled Fiji Sun newspaper and on the government-controlled Fijian Broadcasting Corporation. … [Read more...] about # FRANK BAINIMARAMA “SLAMS” GRAHAM DAVIS

#THE SUCCESSION: FRANK NAMES HIS CHOICE

Posted on September 17, 2020 49 Comments

This is a story that will be read with intense interest in Fiji, not only by the Fijian people but foreign diplomats and development partners, who will finally get an answer to one of the most frequently-asked questions about the country’s future direction - who will replace Frank Bainimarama as Prime Minister when he eventually chooses … [Read more...] about #THE SUCCESSION: FRANK NAMES HIS CHOICE

#SETTING AN EXAMPLE IN THE COVID ERA

Posted on September 16, 2020 9 Comments

It will obviously be critical when Fiji's borders re-open that intending visitors are confident that the country has adopted international best practice when it comes to dealing with the Covid-19 threat. Which makes it all the more perplexing that the country's leadership is so demonstrably failing to set an example to the nation, especially in … [Read more...] about #SETTING AN EXAMPLE IN THE COVID ERA

#TROLL ATTACK ON GRUBSHEET

Posted on September 14, 2020 26 Comments

Within a month of its return, Grubsheet Feejee has already become a significant contributor to the national debate in Fiji, with a surprisingly high number of visitors for a small country with relatively limited Internet access. On Friday alone, we attracted 6,705 views for our exclusive on the Military Council's blueprint for the future and our … [Read more...] about #TROLL ATTACK ON GRUBSHEET

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
