#43 DEATH IN THE FAMILY

Posted on August 19, 2011 13 Comments

Grubsheet is in mourning - along with much of the Australian media and wider community - after the death of ABC journalist Paul Lockyer and two of his colleagues in a fiery helicopter crash in the South Australian outback. It's become a cliche to say that someone died doing what he loved. But that is the absolute truth in this instance and the sole … [Read more...] about #43 DEATH IN THE FAMILY

#42 DARK AGE OF ENTITLEMENT

Posted on August 11, 2011 1 Comment

Britain's middle class has been traumatised by the sudden eruption of violence and looting by a generation reared on the notion of entitlement.  Not for them a "chicken in every pot and a car in every garage" - the epitome of western attainment identified back in the late 1920s by American president Herbert Hoover. In the nihilism of modern … [Read more...] about #42 DARK AGE OF ENTITLEMENT

#41 VALE THE WHITE MOUSE

Posted on August 8, 2011 Leave a Comment

In nearly four decades in the media, Grubsheet has encountered hundreds of interview subjects yet few made such a lasting impression as Nancy Wake - the French Resistance heroine who has died in London at the age of 98. No superlative does justice to the unstoppable force of nature that was Nancy, even in her twilight years. To anyone who met her, … [Read more...] about #41 VALE THE WHITE MOUSE

#40 HEAT AND LIGHT ON FIJI

Posted on August 7, 2011 13 Comments

Regular Grubsheet readers will be aware of the occasional blows we trade with Jon Fraenkel - an academic who specialises in Melanesian affairs at the Australian National University.  Well, here's a chance to hear us go head to head on the ABC Radio National program, National Interest. It's a spirited debate on whether it's in Australia's national … [Read more...] about #40 HEAT AND LIGHT ON FIJI

#39 WELCOME TO AUSTRALIA

Posted on August 2, 2011 1 Comment

In a jungle clearing on a rocky outcrop in the Indian Ocean named after the most joyous event on the Christian calendar, a gaggle of Darth Vader lookalikes armed with batons and riot shields prepares for a decidedly joyless battle with unarmed men, women and children. Seventy Australian Federal Police officers are on Christmas Island to enforce … [Read more...] about #39 WELCOME TO AUSTRALIA

#38 TRIBUTE TO A GRAND LADY

Posted on July 27, 2011 Leave a Comment

Margaret Olley had a big weekend by anyone's standard, let alone for an 88-year old. On Saturday, Australia's Governor-General, Quentin Bryce, and her husband, Michael, brought around a picnic hamper for a lunch that extended through the afternoon, as others joined the gathering. And all weekend, The Grande Dame of Australian art shuffled about her … [Read more...] about #38 TRIBUTE TO A GRAND LADY

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
