# FIJI’S OTHER LOOK NORTH POLICY

Posted on March 15, 2013 53 Comments

The Fijian Government’s Look North policy in global affairs is well known – the change of axis forced on it by the uncompromising stance of its neighbours, Australia and New Zealand, in the wake of Voreqe Bainimarama’s 2006 takeover. What’s not widely appreciated is that the Government is also pursuing a Look North policy of a different kind – a … [Read more...] about # FIJI’S OTHER LOOK NORTH POLICY

# TACKLING A CULTURE OF VIOLENCE

Posted on March 7, 2013 148 Comments

Few people with access to the Internet can have failed to be shocked and distressed at the extraordinary video that emerged this week of two recaptured Fijian prison escapees being ill-treated by their captors. The clip that has appeared on local television is a sanitised version of the original, which at the time of writing has been viewed almost … [Read more...] about # TACKLING A CULTURE OF VIOLENCE

# CRAVING THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE

Posted on March 2, 2013 26 Comments

The aural island idyll of gentle breezes wafting through swaying palms and waves softly breaking onto pristine shores is taking a real battering in Fiji. You can’t go anywhere without being assailed by rock music played at the highest decibels and Grubsheet, for one, has had enough. We want paradise restored - to not only be able to smell the … [Read more...] about # CRAVING THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE

#TESTING TIMES

Scandalising the judicial system has come at a heavy price for the venerable Fiji Times, its former publisher, Brian O’Flaherty, and the current publisher and editor, Fred Wesley. Sentence was passed on the paper today after it was found guilty of contempt for republishing comments about Fiji’s judiciary made to the New Zealand media by Tai … [Read more...] about #TESTING TIMES

# GETTING OUR HOUSE IN ORDER

Posted on February 15, 2013 16 Comments

What is the appropriate size for Fiji’s new parliament? How many MPs can the country sustain? How many do we need to adequately represent us and provide the nucleus for an effective government? All these questions are currently being considered as the Government’s legal officers put the finishing touches to the new Draft Constitution that will be … [Read more...] about # GETTING OUR HOUSE IN ORDER

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
