With all eyes in the legal fraternity on whether the judicial Tribunal investigating the allegations of misbehaviour against Christopher Pryde will proceed with its scheduled hearing today without him after he withdrew from the process, another major obstacle has emerged at the last minute to throw the proceedings in doubt. Grubsheet understands … [Read more...] about # FIJI LAW SOCIETY REFUSES TO TAKE PART IN PRYDE TRIBUNAL HEARING (UPDATED)

# THE ODPP 20 MONTHS AFTER CHRISTOPHER PRYDE WAS SUSPENDED. DYSFUNCTIONAL, UNDISCIPLINED, CHAOTIC

Christopher Pryde is finally meant to have had his day in court tomorrow (Monday Dec 2) after he was suspended as DPP in April 2023 for alleged misbehaviour. But he won't be there when the investigating Tribunal of judges gathers at Veiuto and neither, Grubsheet understands, will the Fiji Law Society, which was invited to give its input but is now … [Read more...] about # THE ODPP 20 MONTHS AFTER CHRISTOPHER PRYDE WAS SUSPENDED. # BEHIND THE TIMES BUT BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

Posted on December 1, 2024 20 Comments

The Fiji Times Sunday edition breathlessly splashes something we have all known since the middle of 2023 (or at least those who read Grubsheet) - the business relationship between the Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, and the convicted Chinese gangster - drug and people trafficker Jason Zhong. It's as if the whole story is new but … [Read more...] about # BEHIND THE TIMES BUT BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

# STRANGE TIMES AT THE FIJI TIMES

Posted on November 30, 2024 26 Comments

How hard is it to find out who has written one of your main features? Insurmountably hard for the dear old things at Butt Street led by editor Fred Wesley. Today's front page tells us that Professor Wadan Narsey is going to give us his wisdom on "The Father of all Coups". But turn to page 34 and the author is Dr Subhash Appana. Oh well. I guess … [Read more...] about # STRANGE TIMES AT THE FIJI TIMES

# THE PRYDE DEBACLE WORSENS AS RADIO NZ CASTS IT AS ANTI FOREIGNER

Posted on November 29, 2024 10 Comments

As Grubsheet predicted, Fiji is now getting a caning in the international media for its treatment of the suspended DPP - New Zealander Christopher Pryde - who is alleging a conspiracy to remove him as part of a wider agenda to remove expatriates from the pubic sector in Fiji. And he clearly has a point, when we also know that the sacked … [Read more...] about # THE PRYDE DEBACLE WORSENS AS RADIO NZ CASTS IT AS ANTI FOREIGNER

# FAST-TRACK TO A DUMB COUNTRY

Posted on November 29, 2024 32 Comments

It says a great deal about the lack of home-grown expertise in Fiji that the greatest living authority on the iTaukei language is a "vulagi" - the distinguished Dr Paul Geraghty, Associate Professor of Linguistics at the University of the South Pacific. As the nation from the top down wrings its hands about the miserable performance of our … [Read more...] about # FAST-TRACK TO A DUMB COUNTRY

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
