# USP UNIONS TO STRIKE ON FRIDAY. UPDATED THURS EVENING

Posted on October 17, 2024 20 Comments

The two staff unions at USP haven't wasted any time in announcing strike action tomorrow, including a demonstration at the university's Laucala campus. The announcement - circulated to union members today - doesn't say whether it is a one day stoppage or the commencement of wider action. But USP is making it clear that salaries will be docked … [Read more...] about # USP UNIONS TO STRIKE ON FRIDAY. UPDATED THURS EVENING

# THE PM REVEALS A SPLIT IN THE PEOPLE’S ALLIANCE (UPDATED THURS PM)

Posted on October 17, 2024 35 Comments

It cannot be a surprise to anyone given the chaos in the Coalition government that even some members of the dominant partner - the People Alliance - have had enough. But it's certainly surprising that the Prime Minister himself has gone public revealing that some PAP members are intending to leave and form an alternative political grouping to … [Read more...] about # THE PM REVEALS A SPLIT IN THE PEOPLE’S ALLIANCE (UPDATED THURS PM)

# USP. UTTERLY SELFISH PEOPLE

Posted on October 16, 2024 21 Comments

So the unions at USP are going ahead with their strike demanding the removal of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Pal Ahluwalia - jeopardising the education of the region's young people to assert their right to choose their boss. The Fat Cats have got their pay rises but it isn't enough. So they are withdrawing their services until the USP Council … [Read more...] about # USP. UTTERLY SELFISH PEOPLE

# THE ACTING CJ STEPS UP HIS ASSAULT ON THE RULE OF LAW

Not content with debasing the entire criminal justice system, the Acting Chief Justice and head of the Judicial Services Commission, Salesi Temo, now wants to debase the standards of conduct of members of the legal profession. The increasingly erratic Justice Temo says the Legal Practitioners Act is unnecessarily punitive, "is very much against … [Read more...] about # THE ACTING CJ STEPS UP HIS ASSAULT ON THE RULE OF LAW

# HAVE THE RUMBLINGS IN THE RFMF BEGUN AGAIN?

Posted on October 14, 2024 33 Comments

Long-time readers of Grubsheet will recall that I came under withering attack in the aftermath of the 2022 election for suggesting that elements in the RFMF were extremely unhappy about some of the new government's policies and conduct. I came in for particular criticism for publishing (on my old Facebook page) a series of purported military … [Read more...] about # HAVE THE RUMBLINGS IN THE RFMF BEGUN AGAIN?

# SEARCH FOR THE TRUTH. SITIVENI RABUKA’S ROLE IN THE 2000 MUTINY (A DETAILED WEEKEND READ)

Posted on October 13, 2024 38 Comments

A Truth and Reconciliation Commission is one of the Coalition's signature policies as its constituent parties turn their attention to the 2026 elections. Yet few people believe we will ever get to the truth about precisely who was behind the three major upheavals in national life since Independence - the Sitiveni Rabuka-led coups of 1987, the … [Read more...] about # SEARCH FOR THE TRUTH. About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
