# SOE’S SLIPPERY SLOPE

Posted on November 9, 2021 1 Comment

The strut has gone out of Mohammed Saneem as he comes under increasing attack over his heavy-handed conduct towards the political parties (“Too Much Power”, says today’s Fiji Times), the humiliation of his failed court case to unseat the SODELPA MP, Niko Nawaikula, and his secret complaint to the Judicial Services Commission that has seen Saneem blame Solicitor-General Sharvada Sharma for that failure and triggered Sharma’s suspension.

Saneem is looking increasingly harassed, as well he might. Because the clock is ticking towards the Tribunal hearing that will determine whether his complaint against the SG is upheld or whether the judges on the panel exonerate Sharma and Saneem’s complaint is dismissed. In other words, the stark prospect of humiliation piled on humiliation.

Yet even before the Tribunal sits, the Registrar of Political Parties and Supervisor of Elections finds himself under attack in a joint report by the Swedish-based International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) and Dialogue Fiji, which says that Saneem has too much legal power to impose sanctions on political parties such as suspension or de-registration.

Mohammed Saneem

Rather than accept what to most observers is the bleeding obvious, the Wonder Boy from Labasa has gone on the offensive and is threatening to sever ties with IDEA. (See the accompanying FBC story). Yet this is just the latest in a series of blunders by the Attorney General’s house elf that have undermined his credibility at the highest levels. Certainly his lack of judgment in putting on the gloves every time someone offends his overblown ego has convinced many of his glaring unsuitability to ever achieve his ambition of eventually becoming a judge.

Time is ticking for Saneem and it is perhaps no surprise that he has been looking for another job. Because his complaint to the Judicial Services Commission about the Solicitor General is extremely high risk. Leaving aside the dismay of other officers of state at the precedent that has been set and the fear that they could suffer the same fate, Saneem has bet all that the Tribunal will uphold his complaint. And if it doesn’t, the whole episode threatens to engulf his reputation and that of his patron, the AG, in an almighty bonfire of the vanities.

Haha, the little boy himself is screwed since applying for another job is a dead giveaway that he isn’t confident that his little complaint about Sharma will be upheld. Now he knows how it feels to whinge like his pathetic patron Aiyarse where logical facts and common sense has often made both of them to look stupid with eggs on their faces.

Its clear that Mohammed “Suckhim” is willing to jump ship that his overinflated ego like the AG has clouded his brain and judgement, because it sure does look like that the house elf “dobbie” is about to reach breaking point like Khaiyum and eventually Frankie since both the latter are becoming so old and senile that politics has drained them completely taking a heavy toll on them.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
