# THE COALITION GOES FROM BAD TO WORSE

Posted on April 8, 2024 34 Comments

So now the Acting Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa, is set to lose her job for doing her job. And at the hands of the miserable Barbara Malimali – who complained after the election that women weren’t getting enough Coalition jobs until she got one and is now using it to remove another woman from her job.

Yes, folks, next they’ll be eating their babies. And if you think I’m being overwrought, consider this:

1/ Ana Mataiciwa is required by law to refer any MP suspected of violating the Political Parties Act to FICAC – the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption.

2/ She has reportedly done so in the case of three Coalition Ministers – the Deputy Prime Minister, Manoa Kamikamica, the Attorney General, Siromi Turaga, and our old friend, the Minister for Bonking and Weed, Lynda Tabuya.

3/ The official reason hasn’t been given. But according to the Fiji Sun, all three have joined the NFP leader and Minister for Finance, Biman Prasad, in being referred to FICAC for allegedly breaching the legal requirements relating to the declaration of assets in the lead-up to the 2022 election.

4/ Now the Chair of the Electoral Commission, lawyer Barbara Malimali, has written to the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, asking that Ana Mataiciwa be removed.

By any standard, this is an outrage. Make that “another outrage” by a government that came to power promising to restore proper standards of governance and has betrayed the Fijian people by doing precisely the opposite.

The attempt to remove the independent referee is bad enough. But some of these jokers are already mired in scandal. And it doesn’t take much in the public mind to suspect that where there is smoke, there is fire. And for public confidence in the electoral system, even the smallest flicker of doubt about its integrity must be extinguished.

FICAC is there to help the Elections Office keep the process clean. To keep the bastards honest. And it must be allowed to do its job.

We simply cannot allow party hacks like Barbara Malimali – who was made Chair of the Electoral Commission after she complained about Coalition women not getting enough jobs – to dislodge an independent public official like the Acting Supervisor of Elections. As Commission Chair, she is supposed to protect Ana Mataiciwa’s back when she comes under attack, not knife her.

So back off, Barbara. Or you too will face the full force of the Fijian people’s anger that having been promised better standards of governance, things have actually got worse.

Today’s Fiji Sun front page.

With so much to be legitimately unhappy about, Savenaca Narube chooses to be unhappy that the government hasn’t moved quickly enough to abolish the 2013 Constitution.

What planet are you on, Save? This government cannot deliver basic services, let alone proper standards of conduct on the part of its ministers. And you want it to concentrate on challenging the Constitution?

It beggars belief that in this long article in today’s Fiji Sun, not once does the Unity Party leader say precisely what is wrong with the terms of the Constitution. Which bits do you want changed, Save? The common and equal citizenry? The common identity? The secular state?

Or has your sidekick – the Sage of Sabeto, Mick Beddoes – given you his best PR advice to avoid ever saying why you want the Constitution changed, knowing that the gormless journalists in the mainstream media will never ask?

In the meantime, the Minister for Bonking and Weed behaves as if she doesn’t have a care in the world.

If you’ve got away with adultery, drug taking and lying to the Prime Minister, the police and everyone else, what’s a little local difficulty with FICAC?

Turn around, Lynda, and show us your Tatts!

No, I didn’t think so.

Shameless.

Oilei the loud miserable heavy chested Barbra Malimali still getting her jobs using her mouth and other things ! She is a close friend of the Minister for Bonking and Weed so don’t expect any standards from her too! Birds of the same feather flock together so Ana just stand your ground ! You’re doing a great job! What did they think ?

You prosecute Bainimarama for a directive that did not benefit him financially but don’t want to prosecute your own Ministers who’ve gained personal benefits under corruptive methods using taxpayers to vote for you as you misrepresent to them ?

We already said. Retribution is long ! You open that door expect more complaints to come including those against the PM himself!

Everyone is under the LAW including Ministers and if they want to clear themselves they must follow the due process of the LAW – the acting supervisor of election is only doing her job…We the citizens of Fiji including Fijians & indigenous Fijians MUST learn to respect the Rule of the LAW…

Dina taucoko, Paula! Only wished you had the ears of PM, AG, CJ, ADPP, Linda, ….. the list grows. That they would hear and go a step further to act on your counsel accordingly in the interests of good national governance. No wonder our youths have gone berserk, and their younger siblings will, will, will surely follow suit.

Rabuka went to great lengths to save Minister for Weed and Bonking, lately seen posing care-freely in her bikini on her instagram page, in a victory sign, and as an ‘up-yours’ ????to GrubSheet and other critics. What will Rabuka do with Ana?

It is an “up yours” to the Fijian people. Is Lynda Tabuya not only an adulterer and an illicit drug-taker but also someone who has lied about her financial assets? We must keep the blowtorch on these bastards to make sure we get answers to that question. And propel them into the political wilderness at the first opportunity.

This government is an enemy of democracy. They have worked with their operatives to systematically weaken public institutions such as FICAC, police, the DPP’s office and now the FEO over the last 16 months, enabled and even emboldened by an asinine media.

Sadly, this is all happening under the watch of the self-righteous but ultimately impotent and compromised RFMF commander, who wears his moral superiority on his sleeve but lacks the courage to do what is right – that is, act in the interest of Fiji and the wellbeing of all Fijians.

Leave the commander and the RFMF out of this misery. We are a democratic country and there are democratic processes that we should adhere to. Everyone should be equal under the law and we should all respect it. Whether it’s a minister or just an ordinary citizen we should be all equally treated under the law.

The problem with Ana is that she doesn’t think. Anyone writing in an allegation like that idiot Alex Forwood or whatever her name is, she just forwards it to FICAC. She could easily verify if the claims have substance or not. She is just acting like a halfback with her eyes closed. Worse than that FJ Drua halfback who got carded. One needs an uppercut and the other a haircut.

Like most people in Fiji who are able to, pack up and leave. Australia and NZ are welcoming Fijians with open arms.

This place ain’t worth fighting for. There are too many crooks and too many crooks being appointed to protect those crooks.

When shame is lost, all is lost. And coalition aint got a gram of shame.

If you are a civil servant, you don’t serve the public, you serve the political masters. We Fijians haven’t learnt and we probably we never learn. We will defend anything our politicians do. We will die poor, without education and good health or social care but what the hell, at least the politicians and their families are well off.

I thought the education system was on the way up, apparently not. Teachers getting direct PR pathway in Australia and NZ now. Soon no Teachers will be left in Fiji. Doctors and nurses and accountants have already left.

The best thing Savenaca Narube can do is just go away.

He is talking about the 2013 Fiji Constitution when he can’t even abide by his party’s own Constitution and convene an AGM.

Oh so that Playboy centre piece is of LT that she posted herself?

I wonder what role of women she projects in the pictures and whether it is in accord with the womens’ rights movement?

Ana has also referred the President, the former AG and the former PM to FICAC! Why should Ana’s removal be pushed simply because she has referred Ministers? Does anybody care about the President? Or was this the easiest way to ask for his resignation and bring in Kepa? Something interesting is happening in the background.

Given this government is founded and funded through nepotism, cronyism and corruption, any moves to prosecute or investigate any of the ministers or government officials means the end of ones career.

    No class.
We’re more interested in the rule of law and justice in Fiji. If you sleep with a married Cabinet minister during taxpayer-funded government trip abroad, you do the honorable thing and just resign.
I’ll be frank. There are more beautiful bodies to ogle in Fiji than your half a century bod.
Sculpt up or just turn around so we can all see those ugly turtles.

I am concerned about Tabuya and her mental health status. She is craving for attention. Haven’t seen a cheap as Minister for Women advertising $12 sulu’s in a bikini. It is creepy as. No moral values.
Do Fiji’s Minister’s not have a code of conduct to abide by? I am sure it calls for basic professionalism and mannerisms.
Anyway, another day for the Fijians to witness. She is giving all Fijians a “f**k yourself” and we the taxpayers have to keep paying her while she models, takes drugs, and has sex with other married men. The President of the Methodist church can pray for her.

Not accepting their wrongdoing and being man enough to admit it but covering up their own lies.
The question is why are the citizens of Fiji still hanging on to this venomous snake ????.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
