# THE GRIN GETS WIPED OFF SIROMI TURAGA’S FACE

Posted on January 9, 2025 52 Comments

The face of impending doom

Can you believe it, Fiji? As the Coalition government wallows in chaos and dysfunction, the man with the supercilious grin has succeeded in putting Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Christopher Pryde back on the front pages of both dailies today, with the ousted AG and the reinstated DPP on the front foot. It is the biggest resurrection for both men since you know who. And it is largely down to the incompetence and sheer stupidity of one man – Siromi Turaga, the hapless, accident-prone Minister for Justice.

It was Turaga as attorney general who embarked on the ill-fated move to remove Christopher Pryde as DPP 21 months ago that has blown up in the government’s face and resulted in its greatest humiliation. Now Christopher Pryde is all over the papers as he prepares to return to Gunu House with his “Keep Calm and Carry On” sign while the Coalition is anything but calm and if anything, is showing signs of abject panic.

But Siromi Turaga really has to have the magic touch politically to have resurrected the political fortunes of Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, who we all thought was finished but is now in the Fiji Times, of all places, taking a stick to Siromi – his successor and tormentor – and making the entire Coalition look like a ship of fools.

How much longer can this imbecile survive? Only for as long as it takes for the Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, to realise that like Lynda Tabuya, Siromi Turaga is a dead weight on the government’s fortunes and is steadily dragging the People’s Alliance into the depths where politicians drown. It is surely obvious to all but the most deluded that the ship can only be righted when the decks are cleared and Siromi and Lynda are thrown over the side.

You really have to have a special touch to wind up in both papers cast as someone who has no idea of what he is doing. But, hey, that’s Siromi. The greatest gift imaginable to Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Christopher Pryde plus the army of political hopefuls who will be driving a truck through the PAP next year, assuming this debacle is allowed to continue because the captain at the wheel is asleep.

What are you going to do about it, Prime Minister?

Yeah, we thought so.

————

Today’s front pages…

And the details. First the Fiji Sun…

And then the biggest red letter day for years – Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on the front page of the Fiji Times not for his challenges in the courts but attacking Siromi Turaga for his stupidity.

Oh how the mighty fall. In happier days, as the Fiji Sun‘s caption editors used to say – the notorious $86,000 GPH party.

Now on the ropes and fighting for his political life.

“God moves in mysterious ways his wonders to perform”. Seriously. Who’d have thunk?

NOTE TO READERS:

I am in the process of moving out of my home for restoration work and will be unable to give Grubsheet my full attention for a couple of weeks.

    Morning GD,

Come on mate, put off your house restoration for a bit and continue on exposing the hopeless bunch that is in power.

Your informed and substantiated publications has a noose around the government and we cannot afford them a minute’s respite let alone a couple of weeks!!!!

Who is going to feed us the facts in your absence!

Hahaha. Unfortunately it can’t be put off. The great deluge in Sydney last April flooded our apartment and the whole place needs to be pulled apart and rebuilt. We will have workmen here from next week until maybe June. So a great deal of disruption and chaos. Will do my best to keep covering events in Fiji but not guaranteed while we shift our yaya and for a time, ourselves. My regrets.

Siromi, a racist, thinks he was a very important person for Fiji. Same as Filimone, Tabuya, Singh, and Biman. On the side we had the commentator Richard Naidu.
These guys were and still are dead and dangerous weight to the government and the tax payers who pay their handsome wages.

Siromi should be ashamed of his racist tactics from day 1. His intelligence (there is none) doesn’t qualify him for an AG post.

His continued assassination and disregard for the law and the constitution is visible. Fiji has just wasted its taxpayer funds and already restricted resources on two inquiries. One for the DPP and one for Rabuku. Now we with Malimali. I am sure there is also the Commissioner of Corrections case here. These mistakes by Siromi has deteriorated the trust that the Fijians should be having in their government.

Siromi needs to step aside and be investigated himself.

Where is the free media champions? Still asleep.

      @Doomed, well put.

A bunch of political hacks and ethno-nationalist racist religious nutcases led by a snake. A racist dimwitted CJ, compromised ODPP, FICAC, ball less AG, with a blowhard blundering baboon as unjustice minister, and a bloviating, lying BS tourism nose bush complete the casting for this horror show. Oh, with a weed adled porn queen.

Select NGOs, complaint media, toadys, weeping self important minnows and puppets are all happy to ride along the traveling circus. Don’t see, don’t hear, don’t speak no evil is the default modus operandi.

That the separation of powers legislative execurive, and judiciary as practiced by real democracies does not exist in Fiji is lost on all of them.

Our brainless elected officials and appointed puppets do their best (or worst) to pretend to make us look like a functional democracy.

In reality as a country we worship thugs and criminals (treasonous bastards/mutineers/drug users/pron queen/money laundering (ginger anyone?) and a pedo at the tree top. All controlled and driven by ethno-nationalism by god’s bible thumping chosen people with a lost tribe in tow.

A low information voting base, disengaged and least interested populace allows the nutcases to do as they please with impunity.

An enabled and complicit judiciary homes in the final nail to this god almighty coffin.

If anyone still thinks we have a democracy, you are delusional.

I hate to say this but watching as a bystander and witnessing the recent debacle of the iTaukei people in government and judiciary has led me to suggest that this particular bunch of miscreants are totally unfit for public service. Every day the situation seems to be getting from bad to worse and the Prime Minister is unfit to lead this sinking ship.

Meanwhile, the Indian community in Fiji should consider boycotting and refusing to participate in government/civic affairs so that external pressures by the Indian diasporas in the US, Australia, NZ, Canada might come to their aid and save Fiji from deteriorating further followed by mass migration of them to those countries.

I am based in New Zealand. I have refused to tender or be part of any Fiji Government led activities in New Zealand. This also includes the NZ Fiji Business Council who are a group of self serving people closely associated with those in the government now. Their incompetence is so unreal that they got the Prime Minister of New Zealand’s name wrong late last year on their social media posts.

Then we have Mr Lodhia, an absolutely disconnected person representing Fiji in Auckland. What has the guy done for the Fijian people in Auckland? Nothing. He turns up for photo opportunities. We have the same issue with Inoke Kubuabola and his team at the Fiji High Commission office in Wellington. They hardly answer their calls nor respond to emails. It’s like everyone everyday is on holidays. We are an absolute joke.

The PM shows up to NZ like anyone cares. No, we don’t. Just 3 years ago people felt honoured to meet Bainimarama or anyone from the Fiji Government. Not now. Even with a free invite for kana and dance no one turns up. Well except those who have lots of time for self promotion and kava.

I know I am not the only one feeling this way in New Zealand right now. There are many entrepreneurs and many ethical people who just don’t like to be paraded with anyone right now when it comes to anything Fiji Government. We have had enough of incompetent, sexual power hungry and drunk ministers representing Fiji to NZ.

I must say that Fiji Girmit Foundation NZ is a far better charitable institution than any in Fiji or abroad. Kudos to them for the hard work they do. Unlike Biman et al who have nothing to show but a cry and apology fest. All Biman’s cheerleaders in NZ have gone quiet too and don’t want to know him. That says a lot.

So it’s ok if you’re not part of anything Fijj in NZ, because that’s only for the real Fijians and Pacific Islanders. You’re kicking up a fuss while stuck in no man’s land. Turaga should be removed of his ministerial appointment and relegated to being a back bencher for his SHEER INCOMPETENCE.

Like how many more chances does this dimwit with a law degree get?

This is a trait that he has shown over the course of his time in Parliament especially in his short stint at AG and now Minister of Justice.

Who is advising him in that office?

Is he even being advised before sending directives as such?

What are the AG and SG doing to rein this in?

It appears that he has acted of his own accord and with no consultation with the Government’s chief legal advisor.

He has shown time and time again that he is incapable of doing the work that he is mandated to do and is doing his voters a disservice.

FICAC should have him investigated and charged for Abuse of Office.

The frequent errors on Siromi’s part raises questions about his qualifications as a legal practitioner and whether he actually knows the Constitution.

Every action by this arrogant and inept minister has resulted in Rabuka and the government being placed in an embarrassing situation.

It is apparent that Siromi is neither fit to be a minister or a person who can be allowed to practice law in Fiji. His bad decisions span back to the days when he was a lawyer.

Rabuka must move to remove this useless grinning baboon from his cabinet because today’s dailies have smashed Siromis glass facade to pieces.

If anything, hire the former AG as a consultant to guide the government through their legal woes, as he seems to be doing a better job from the outside and the current AG (Leung) seems to be busy flying around the globe without any concerns for the job he is really supposed to be doing back in Fiji.

    1. Minister Siromi Turaga; and
    2. Permanent Secretary Selina Kuruleca.

Siromi was relegated from being AG to Justice Minister.

Selina was relegated from PS Education to the newly created and independent ministry of Justice as its new PS.

Both appointments were classified as demotions because of poor performance by both individuals.

GD. As if this siromi/rabuka debacle wasn’t enough…we now have even more chaos which points to the massive infighting thats happening in PAP. It’s this internal bickering and conflict within thats led rabaku to sound out his “reshuffle” call first made last December.

You may recall that Biman was asked about this so called Rambo reshuffle but he immediately brushed it aside saying it wasn’t warranted cos the economy was doing well and nope was doing a good job blah blah. But this didn’t stop baritone buka from making reshuffle noises again..now on the back of “I have too much work and don’t get enough sleep at my age” , baku is now talking about explicitly expanding his cabinet…not a reshuffle!

This is all being done to bring in the traitorous 9 from the faux opposition to bolster his support as PM cos baku is now facing a rebellion from within the PAP ranks. Thats why he said his “reshuffle ” will not change any ministers from their current portfolios???. For a while there baritone had assumed he could keep the 9 feeding off his scraps because he had enough support within the coalition…but not anymore. Now baku will ask biman the bajaru to come up with more ways to squeeze money out of fijian taxpayers to fund the massively expanded cabinet…the biggest and most expensive in Fiji’s history.

Even if you average it out between minsiters and assistant ministers…the 9 new incompetent members of cabinet will cost us taxpayers, inclusive of vehicles, salaries, allowances, medical travel, rent etc, a very minimum of 5 million a year. Which equates to 10 million extra added over two years to the already bloated and overpaid bunch of incompetent fools who couldn’t even organize a village fundraising event. (So whats the final bill that we taxpayers have to cough up for this bunch of idiots?)

The fijian public will get completely f**ked again just so that Rabaku can survive politically.
Don’t forget the current 2 backbenchers, the former fisheries minister who didn’t turn up to court for his fraud case two days ago and the kadavu queen…who just may make a slippery slip back into cabinet pretty soon.

Pray tell why are the likes of wadan narsey, shailendra Singh, stanley the kaidia, Fred the fool, Anish the anus or Vijay the vuji not doing any of these, stories for the public they supposedly represent? What about stories on what happened to the money owed to fiji Airways for the corrupt religious jaunt to the holy land? How come nakarawa and Pride were sent in leave based on an accusation but Bab milamila retains her postion despite being under investigation before she was appointed and now even when shes being investigated under a commission of inquiry that involves criminal issues as articulated by the people heading the COI.

BTW, the whole COI is a sham..the old ashton lewis fallah is rabuka’s mate and his 2ic with a dubious professional background is just as compromised as the old bastard who will give milamila a get of jail free card. ( btw..i didnt think anyone could be as obese as Tanya but milamila beats her by a mile..just take a look at the photos…how did they get up the stairs to the COI??!!)

There are countless f**k ups and corruption by this incompetent govt that the fiji media continues to deliberately ignore. But their demise is nigh. They are slowly turning on each other just like the old days…where the victors consumed the losers and the poor commoners got the scraps.

A painful wait of over 2 years for Pryde to get justice. The charges looked more like framed to get rid of Pryde, to then appoint itaukeis to the job. Pryde’s salary was suspended for over 7 months by the same person who suspended him. Temo, the Chair of Judicial Services Commission (JSC), who has now been appointed Chief Justice, has some explanation to do. His recommendations to the president in both cases were misguided.

As Chief Justice of Fiji, what signal does he send to the judiciary, government, and the people of Fiji and indeed to our investors and development partners.

Is he fit to be the Chief Justice? The COC and the President should look at what Temo did to bring disrepute and embarrassment to the legal system and the government. Should such a person be the Chief Justice of Fiji? Certainly not.

He needs to be suspended and a tribunal appointment to investigate him. Or might I say he should be summarily dismissed.

And what about the witnesses comprising ministers and senior civil servants who, with the exception of the Permanent Secretary for Finance, came with a set narrative against Pryde. Ministers like Siromi, Biman, Charanjeath, and PS Parmesh parotted the same narrative.

All these shameless and selfish people should resign, or an investigation should be instituted for ganging against Pryde. Parmesh has been the beneficiary of the government’s favor on several occasions by being appointed as acting PS Civil Service, later being confirmed and then now appointed as Fiji’s Ambassador to Japan. He was a failed PAP candidate in 2022 general election. What has he done as PS Civil Service?

The main culprit in the Pryde case is former AG Siromi Turaga. Rabuka dethroned him from the AG position but yet gifted him the position of Minister for Justice. And now he has created another blunder and embarrassed the government in case of the Commossioner of Corectional Services. The fact is he is not fit to be a minister. I hope that he is relieved from his position and someone better appointed instead.

I still believe Bainimarama was vengefully/wrongfully jailed by Temo. His time in prison means he can’t stand for the next election. I don’t know what is happening to his appeal. I believe Fiji needs a leader like Narube or Bainimarama to pull back the country from shit.

If the CJ entered the venue, the COI process is now tainted. It is common knowledge that witnesses cannot sit in on court proceedings before they have given evidence because hearing others evidence first may taint their evidence. Temo is a witness. He’s potentially entered the Inquiry ahead of his designated slot. To what extent will this impact his evidence? To what extent will he tailor what he has to say to suit somebody else’s evidence that has already been given?

Yes, this is an inquiry and not a court case. But the commission of inquiry has very similar powers to a court and will likely have very similar rules. And if they don’t, they ought to maintain the integrity of the process.

Yet another glaring example of the CJs total lack of understanding about court process procedures and etiquette.

I agree that this is deeply disturbing. The CJ shouldn’t be anywhere near the place except when called to give evidence himself. The way things are, no-one can have any confidence in the COI. It is neither transparent because it is being conducted secretly nor accountable to the public except at the discretion of a hopelessly compromised President, who has the power to suppress its findings.

      A 24 carat farce.

Graham, please repost that famous photo of this ex-AG when, as street language here would dictate, “the fala kaicolo the business class seat to the US on Fiji Airways”. It clearly reflects his unworthiness…. from a mere local magistrate to AG … a tamani undeserved jump!

The bush lawyer is getting exposed thick and fast.

I’ve heard from people that he doesn’t write a single word of his speeches and can’t speak without having to read a prewritten speech.

I cant help seeing the funny side of it, but it’s actually a sad disaster for fiji having such low IQ individuals making major decisions for our country.

The Dream is over – an insightful self prophesy that is now fulfilled!
And he is relieved of suffering Imposter Syndrome – way out of his depth as an Attorney General.

    Fiji village Jan 21, 2023:
……Siromi Turaga says he never dreamt of becoming an Attorney General because there are many others in the People’s Alliance Party that deserve this position and there are many outside of Parliament that are fit for the Attorney General’s position.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
