Great, they deserve to spend some time behind bars as they hurt too many people and enjoyed the lap of luxury for 16 years.

Why is Salesi Temo presiding over the appeal case. It should be some other neutral judge. Temo needs to rescue himself from this case. Why is he even premtying the appeal court outcome by uttering there is little chance if success. Surely the judiciary is compromised. Wonder why the men in green waiting for so long to take matters into their own hands..

No surprise. The Acting CJ would, in my view, have never granted them bail. To do so would be seen by many as indicating that the sentence he imposed on each was not as valid as he advised in his judgement.

No one is above the law. Why should someone who has been convicted of a crime be given bail? Did you sit in the court room and hear all the facts of the case? Thank goodness that I have read other posting of yours and can conclude that “Stupidity” and “Ignorance” is in your DNA and your comment shows who you are.

Your posting is a perfect example of a liar. Read my other postings? Going back over the last 18 months I don’t think so! Your assumptions on comments equal DNA is absurd.

Why does this guy, Temo, have to decide on their sentence, their bail and make the assumption they are likely not going to be successful in their appeal. From day 1, he is anti-Bainimarama and Qiliho and with him as judge they don’t have any hope of a fair hearing. I wonder what the Military Council is doing as they have the mandate to uphold the constitution.

The moral decay in our society is escalating, exacerbated by the infiltration of drugs. We need to brace ourselves and seek divine intervention if we hope to be saved. The blessings from Ayodhya, as received by DPM-NFP in his recent visit, may offer some hope and epiphany.

The government has been granted extensive freedom, yet it appears to be exploiting this for the wrong reasons. When leadership falters, every branch of government and governance suffers. In Fiji, much of our leadership is focused on the political game and the pursuit of parliamentary seats, rather than on effective governance.

The health of a nation is defined by its political integrity, economic stability, education systems, social structures, technological environment & advancement, and the independence and proper functioning of its legal and judicial systems. Unfortunately, we seem to have created a Frankenstein’s monster that threatens to undermine our democracy in all these ways and more.

We must hold our leaders accountable and ask them: What tangible benefits have you brought to the nation after gaining power through the ‘power of one’?

We need an urgent reset for correction, the sooner the better!

The Drama in Parliament over the salary may be the reason to keep them isolated yet for some time. Perhaps not the right time. Regards

People forget that this is a Third World country with Third World standards. From the top to the bottom. The judiciary, the speaker, the appointments to boards and diplomatics missions and everything else. The people’s mindset is also Third World.
A judge can say and do the stupidest things and get away with it.
I believe the mindset is “This is our country and we will do as we please. No vulagi laws or vulagi people or vulagi things will get in our way”. How far from the truth is that?

Except when there’s a tame white man to give you a pay rise. 🙁 That was the whole point for the generation at Independence. That Fiji could go against the trend in the third world and be a shining example of a successful multiracial, multi religious smart country. The Singapore of the South Pacific.

We were at the same stage of development in the late 1950’s and could have taken the same path. Alas. Those who betrayed that dream have a great deal to answer for. Greed and self interest triumphed over uniting as one nation and working together to grow the economic cake bigger so that everyone could get a better slice.

Imagine what we could have done if Rabuka had not triggered the exodus of our best and brightest. Twice. I would put him on trial and have him shot. But that’s just me. Perennially over the top.

Totally agree, but you only would have shot him, I would use a bazooka. Bai was right all along, he is a snake – anaconda kind….

We all want a better Fiji for everyone and reporting on everyone that comes in to power and leadership is a good way of keeping them on their toes. But to post such actions as having someone shot or blaming them for the exodus of our best is certainly not true. People move to better opportunities and life all around the world due to their own personal circumstances and the thoughts that the grass is greener to where they migrate too. The reality will only materialise when they arrive at their new destination.

I was being facetious about having him shot. But what has been his contribution to Fiji? A disaster from 1987 to 1999 and another period of disaster now.

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
