Our “Afro-Fijian” Minister for Justice has given short shrift to the complaint by Mohammed Saneem – the former elections supervisor – of inhumane treatment while being held on remand, including rats running over him in a police cell.
The following is the astonishing response from the human rodent, Siromi Turaga, to Saneem’s complaint:
“Everyone else goes through that”? Then why the hell haven’t you done anything about it? No-one expects GPH or Holiday Inn comfort but the least you bastards could do is call in the pest controllers.
What about Fijian families living in the vicinity of police holding cells and prisons? This is a basic public health issue that requires an immediate response.
In any event, Mohammed Saneem is accused of an offence but hasn’t been convicted of anything. And he and other prisoners on remand deserve a lot better.
We were promised better from this government. And what do we get instead? A rat like Siromi Turaga, who can barely contain revelling in Saneem’s discomfort.
The Minister for Justice is a stranger to justice. A racist and religious bigot who is only part indigenous, according to recent correspondence to Grubsheet.

Of course, those rats – rodents and human – are waiting for Grubsheet and anyone else who opposes the “New Order”. Having been warned not to return to Fiji by no less than Sitiveni Rabuka‘s hand-picked High Commissioner to Australia, at least I now know what to expect.
In the knowledge that I am likely to be detained on arrival, even seeing a Fiji Airways plane flying overhead is unsettling these days. But rats?
Sad as it is, I am resolved never to see Fiji again. Or to ever come face-to-face with the “American from Lomaiviti”. Confirmation and more information on this, please Readers.
So the Number One indigenous nationalist in the Coalition is Kailoma?
Oilei!
Siromi Turaga, it seems, is as much a “vulagi” as any Indo-Fijian who might have intermarried. And as a part African, we now know why he is so anxious to take us down the Zimbabwe road.

So he’s a knee-grow.
And the rest of us are knee-bends. As in down on bended knee.
Siromi is a native vulagi. On one side he’s a native Fijian. On the other, he is the descendant of an African American – a foreigner who is not a native of Fiji, but a visitor who didn’t leave like the Indians in Fiji. So, he is two opposite things.
Siromi is racist and nothing less. He is an abuser of human rights too. This is another example of just proving that.
Human rights in Fiji is for the elites. It only applies to the Ratu and Adi and those who are rich and with hierarchy. If you are poor and an Indian then sleeping with the rats and drunken is ok now. Because these lot of abusers are another breed from the 1987 era.
Rabuka said he taught them how to be a menace so no surprises in what we see in all government departments now.
This same stupid fool employed Rabuku. Rabuku used his power to abuse people even when he knew it was wrong. Nanna Nancy says it was the DPPs office that made the decisions and not Rabuku. Is this woman stupid?
This is the calibre of gutter law society and DPP office rulers in Fiji. It is a human rights abuse and about time they are exposed to the world. I hope cases are taken to the highest courts to expose Fiji on human rights abuse. This includes Rabuka taken to task too.
That’s outright abuse on any human.
Let’s put Saneem aside.
This should not happen to anyone.
One can only sense how many rights are being violated and abused in Fiji Police cells by the DPP’s office. This can make headlines globally.
Few years ago a New Zealander died in Samoa police cells. It was a case of human rights abuse. The news made headlines fast and Samoa suffered from this big time.
Fiji should not take this lightly as it can stir a humanity war and impact their tourism industry. If Siromi wants to make Fiji sound like Mexico then be ready for the downfall.
Such a nut job.
Siromi says Fiji is a Third World country and we should expect nothing less. With a third-rate Justice Minister, Fiji is guaranteed to remain a third world and third rate country and proudly so. What is more, with such proud dickheads such as Siromi and not to mention the PM and now the President-elect, not to mention all those others in government and in parliament, Fijians are guaranteed to to have more rats crawling over their feet for a long time.
Every time this fool opens his mouth there is no hope for anything better.
He is a liar, fool, and racist.
Tourism Fiji would love seeing this kind of stuff in news. Why not! Let’s promote the country by telling the world how our police and justice system works.
Amnesty International love topics on human rights abuse, abuse on women, abuse on minorities. Just up their alley.
Well done Saneem. These thugs will slowly expose themselves to retirement with a human rights abuse tag on their foreheads added to the long list of other violations.
Was talking to an investor a few weeks ago. They are selling their resort property and leaving.
Their reasons were that the country’s laws are so poor. Their case has been adjourned so many times and they are facing mental exhaustion and financial difficulties. On top of that the crime rate is high and tourists didn’t feel safe. Their property gets destroyed and broken into every now and again.
I felt for this family. They brought their retirement savings to Fiji and now have nothing to bet on. Like them, there are others. All who came during the Bainimarama feel safe boom. They are leaving because they have exhausted their freedom and energy. We can see this happen to Christopher Pryde and the investors have watched this closely. Rabuku and Siromi thought they are smart but the muppets have no clue how much their incompetency has affected the nation and investor confidence.
I hear what someone said above. This type of statements by Siromi makes Fiji look very bad. Fiji survives on tourism and I can assure you that this will hurt.
The Africa of the South Pacific….300 Islands in the Pacific Ocean. (Flight diverted from Singapore)
Are they even sure of where they come from. Israel, Africa. USA, fiji. Ethiopia.
Siromi Turaga quote” We are not a first nation country”…he obviously was degrading Fiji as a third world undeveloped country as it suited his agenda against the vulagi Saneem.
As a so called champion for the indigenous, Siromi should be aware that the term First Nation(s) is used to refer to indigenous peoples…eg Canada, Australia.
Faux pas.
That bloody snowflake. Leave his sorry ass in there. I dont remember hearing anyone else complaining. The late PM, Qarase, Nawaikula, etc. They all accepted their fate. Throw his brother in there with him to keep him company and hold his hand at night when Ben comes crawling around. Pho king Dobbie, I swear!
I would be advocating to throw Rabuku and his uncle PM in prison.
Saneem and his brother were in business well before Frank Bainimarama regime. Please close that mouth of yours if your want to accuse without evidence. These are hardworking families and they don’t rely on dogs like you to feed them. Stick your conversation to the person and not their family.
If they did wrong then why aren’t they charged and convicted till now. Where is the glitch huha! It doesn’t exist. Only exists in your head, rent free.
The beauty of time is such that the clock makes a whole turn and comes back.
Saneem has seen the flip side of the clock like many others. He once enjoyed a very powerful position but today he is a nobody.
Maybe the people in coalition should learn from others mistakes. The clock will definitely make another round.
Nobody? Not everyone stays at the same job unless that is how Fijians see a career in government and politics. People move on and have their own successful business.
Grow up with time.
While ‘status’ has some people to believe their status equals entitlement in reality it will only apply if recognised. In the case of Saneem his ‘status’ was his belief but clearly not that of the Police or DPP.
Having said that his treatment by the Police and DPP do not meet the basic human rights outlined in the Fiji Constitution or what is accepted across the world. the denial of bail is the perfect example of excessive power.
The lowering of legal standards and basic rights in Fiji does not auger well for either investment or tourism. Watch out Fiji, acts like this have a way of becoming known across the world!
Many Muslim Fijians ran Fiji over the past 16 years. Almost of all of the institutions that they helped run are solvent, financially viable and infrastructure was outstandingly good..albeit for the CWM hospital during the covid pandemic.
That there was very few covid deaths in Fiji is testament to the goodwill and excellent leadership of Frank Bainimarama and Aiyaz Khaiyum.
Rather than take the positive impetus from Fiji First, they are now seeking out to denigrate and crush the very people that saved Fiji from cannibalism during the 2000 coup and mutiny.
How will this witch hunt from the current Justice Minister improve foreign investment and bring in jobs in Fiji?
Muslims? What happened to the Christian i-Taukei? Aren’t they Gods chosen people who own majority of everything?
How many Muslims in Fiji Army?
How many Muslims in parliament?
No need for Islamophobia. Get civilised.
Got that right! We’re not a first world country but welcome to the Banana Republic of Fiji.
Most unfair of you, GD to disparage “Kai Loma,” in reference to ST’s mixed heritage. If you mean a non Kai Loma is someone with purity of blood from one ethnic group alone, then everybody in Fiji is a Kai loma, including your self with your mixed Celtic, Norman, German and who knows maybe some Roman ancestry.
It depends how far back you want to go. Enough indigenous Fijians have done DNA tests to date that we can say there is no pure itaukei – mostly part Tongan, a bit of Samoan, Micronesian, Melanesian and even white genes or two.
By this criteria you could say most of Fiji’s Prime Ministers, if not all of them, are or were Kai loma.
It’s just this ridiculous requirement for registration in the Vola Ni Kawa Bula by male descent that identifies who is indigenous and who is a Kai loma.
A taukei male who marries a European woman can register his Kai Loma kids as itaukei but his sister who marries a European or other race cannot.
It’s absurd. There should be a law making it compulsory for DNA testing for all those claiming to be itaukei and the results accessible to all who wish to find out.
I tell it would make Fiji a far more peaceful and loving place than it is now.
I was not disparaging kai loma. I was making the point that if “Malcolm X”‘s account is true, Siromi Turaga is only part indigenous when he has made himself standard bearer for the Coalition’s pro-iTaukei agenda at the expense of the minorities.
That is a legitimate point to make, and especially given the furore over Turaga and others legitimising the use of the term “vulagi” (visitors) to refer to non iTaukei. Surely the logical conclusion to reach is that if he is an Afro-Fijian, Turaga is a vulagi himself.
Sorry, he cannot be vulagi – he has fuzzy hair but more importantly he is a religious bigot and an etho-nationalist idiot.
Better places to visit in Australia GD. Nothing going in Fiji, hotels expensive, food tasteless, violence and robbery, medicals stuffed.
Siromi is so dumb that he doesn’t even know “first world country ” from “first nation”.
What a contrast from the man who occupied the minister of justice position before in intelligence, eloquence and everything else.
There was a time when we hated Aiyaz, called him Dr. Evil but these jokers have really softened our attitude towards him, and really elevated him in our eyes. His superiority to these jokers is clear as daylight. They will never be half the man that he was.
