# THE WORKPLACE ETHNIC CLEANSING UNDER THE COALITION CONTINUES APACE

Posted on January 16, 2026 23 Comments

Shaheen Ali

After 14 years as a permanent secretary across two governments, Shaheen Ali has been removed and been replaced by an iTaukei as the government steps up its purge of the minorities from the civil service and offices of state.

There is no question about Ali’s competence. Indeed I know from personal experience that he was one of the stars of the civil service under FijiFirst, so much so that he survived and seemed to continue to thrive with the change of government three years ago. But no more.

They say he is to be reassigned but it is an ignominious end for someone who was notable for being able to dodge the racial and religious bullet (Ali is Muslim) that has now felled him at the hands of the racists who dominate the dystopian Rabuka order.

If you are an ambitious Indo-Fijian or member of one of the other minorities and want to get on in the public sector, it pains me to advise you to look for a job in private enterprise or get out of Fiji while you can. The later you leave it, the harder it will be to establish yourself overseas.

It is self-evident merely on the numbers that people are being chosen in the civil service and offices of state solely on their ethnicity. Certainly if you aren’t iTaukei, you are at a severe disadvantage. Look around you. The minorities make up a third of the population but a third of the public sector is no longer made up of members of the minorities. And no matter how good you are, an iTaukei will always get any job ahead of you.

The dream of a thriving multiracial Fiji that many of us had at Independence is over. It is now Fiji for the Fijians but we know that Sitiveni Rabuka and his acolytes don’t regard the minorities as Fijians. And rest assured that we are going to be stripped of the common identity we gained under the 2013 Constitution just as soon Rabuka and those who keep him in power can get the numbers to do so. It will be back to “Fiji Islanders” and the humiliation of not genuinely belonging in the nation of our birth.

When someone has served successfully at the apex of the civil service for 14 years and suddenly gets whacked – especially when the establishment is riddled with mediocrity from top to bottom – it is a sign of defeat. It is all over. And no amount of toadying or pretending otherwise is going to make a jot of difference.

Biman Prasad, the NFP leader, is so stupid that he doesn’t realise the “Snake” set him up to fail. Rabuka has betrayed him and Biman Prasad has betrayed us. And all the minorities can do now is to punish both of them for their treachery as soon as they can get to the ballot box. And start planning for a better life elsewhere.

The face of Fiji abroad is also now resolutely iTaukei. Is there any attempt to represent the country as anything other than Melanesian? To reflect the fact that a third of the nation is non-indigenous? Not a chance.

Clearly there was no better person for the position if they have to replace Shaheen with a temp for three to four months until a suitable candidate is found.

They are not doing a very good job of hiding what is going on there!!

Another shameful act by a shameless government with an obvious agenda that isn’t hard to see.

      Why is anyone surprised here?

Matter of time now before it happens in the private sector, if it hasn’t already

Leave while you can before they do an Idi Amin.

Wake up for the next generation and make the call.

Perhaps ensure your savings are not with NBF or FNPF long term as a start.

After the Indo Fijians, who will be next? Lau?

Rokovada’s statement does not seem correct.

On one hand he states that a replacement has been found however, he then goes on to say that the role has been filled by Sikivou temporarily for the next few months until someone has been found.

Disappointing to to see another role filled by someone who was appointed based on ethnicity rather then experience and merit. If these types of shenanigans aren’t sending a clear message to non-Fijians about their chances of getting opportunities based on their merit, I don’t know what will.

Get out while you can. Fiji is not for non-iTaukei.

I am surprised that Shaheen has lasted this long.

This Government has turned the clock backwards to the 1990’s, where patronage and nepotism were rife and the PSC has embraced it and allowed it to happen!

They, the PSC, talk about selection on merit but this decision is the perfect example of saying one thing and doing the exact opposite.

Shaheen lasted 14 years because he knew his job, intelligent man.
Under Rabuka’s Government you don’t need to know the job, you need to know how to misuse public funds and get caught and not be punished.

This racism does not only exist in the public sector but is also widely practiced in the state owned organisations. It is an unwritten and unspoken rule that exists in many organisations to give preference to the i-taukei over others in personnel selection or promotions. Totally demoralizing to say the least. Get out of Fiji if and when the opportunity arises.

One of the main culprits is dogla Baiman Prasad who we voted for to protect our interest, but ended up as Rabuka’s bitch.

He is both a bastard and a coward.

Lately, he’s been issuing pathetic statements out of desperation on the NFP policies.

One of his excuses is that he was betrayed by Indians, and did not have a majority in Biman so we could not achieve much.

Rubbish. He is just a weak and pathetic eunuch. A Conman.

Once again, he’s starting to beg for votes, but the people are not stupid.

This dishonest scammer is not only going down himself, but will also bugger the NFP forever.

This remark by this son of a beach betrayer, evil bastard only goes to reaffirm what narcissistic, self-centered maglomaniac bastard he is.

This is exactly the type of person Mirza Ghalib warned about with his words:
“Umar bhar Ghalib yahi bhool karta raha,
Dhool chehre par thi aur aaina saaf karta raha.”

All my life Ghalib, I made the same mistake; the dust was on my face and I kept cleaning the mirror.”

Baiman’s claims of being betrayed by Indians by not giving him majority is ludicrous.

NFP got the number of votes it deserved.

He is looking for excuses for his failure as a politician- I won’t even call him a leader as he is not worthy of that name.

Baiman had the balance of power but as pointed out by Graham Davis, he was too weak and too stupid to use it. He was there only for himself and did not want to question a rabuka in any way.

Even PAP and Sodelpa leaders and parties are better than Baiman and NFP. At least fight for their people. Baiman and NFP are traitors to their people.

Voters will kick his arse and NFP arse in the election.

Biman’s national federation party is panicking before the election. They are behind Bot accounts set up to attack and discredit people seen as threats in the election like Mahendra Chaudhry and Sandeep Singh. They know in their blood, that Rabuka’s concubine party will suffer its greater defeat in history under Biman’s leadership.

Outside influence, the Chinese and Israelis are very much present in Fiji. Their handmaidens, the minister for disinformation and the widowed local Chinese businesswoman, who is always photographed with the mafia drug king, are procuring funds for the PM. The new PS for information owes her entry into public service to the minister she will serve; rumours abound that she failed miserably in the initial interview, but was rescued by the porn minister and her PM, birds of a feather. Fiji is on the cusp of being sold totally. Sad for the minorities, get out if you can, mediocrity will rule!

Only 6 out of 25 PS are of minority groupings. Speaks volumes of racial discrimination within the system. PS for Policing is a failed SODELPA candidate from te 2018 elections and sacked Police officer. No merit within the system. Only who do you know!!!.

This is all the making of pagla Biman Prasad who because of his ego and personal benefit threw a whole community into suffering. Karma will get to you soon or has already gotten to you . No more NFP in the next elections.

Yep, but it’s not like Fiji needs nuance and sophisticated intellectual ability to navigate international diplomacy or public administration – we’re on the side of the God of the Israelites and will therefore be ok (But what, the US has suspended Fijians’ ability to go to the US- who’dda thunk it?!).

Not to worry about Shaheen though, he’ll be picked up by the development agencies paying handsomely and distorting the local market in a heartbeat. My guess- ABT…

Overseas treatment is the PM’s entitlement. Taking an entourage with him is an entitlement, I am not sure if the daily travel allowance is an entitlement in this case but who gives a f*ck because they can always change the law as this is their country so the vulagi can get f*cked.
In anycase, he got his knees fixed in India, he learned from the Indian army on how to carry out a coup and his government gets as lot of help from India, in health, in sugar and in many other areas.
Even after all this, I do not know why people think he is changed because in my books he is the same ar*ehole he has always been, except a bit older. And he will die an ar*ehole and remain an ar*ehole beyond the grave.
Which means that in the eyes of the Fijian, he is an ideal person to continue in the job beyond the next election.

    Patterns matter.

When competence and experience is discarded quietly and selectively, who decides who still belongs?

It is common where we see power is driven by greed rather than performance, and competence is becoming a threat.

Is this governance, or something far more deliberate?

    Sad.

I feel ashamed about my country. I thought we had turned the page on this racial scar of ours. This is not my government. It does not represent me. I have success because I work hard, because my parents knew better, because they sent me to school and because they told me very early that there is only one way to be successful is to work hard.

This government is busy cooking the books and the constitution to keep their jobs and their perks. They do not give a damn about the people and services. They are so busy trying to keep their jobs that they don’t do their jobs.

I am proud to work in an environment where we have I’Taukei, Hindus, Muslims and a few white dudes. We work hard, we do very well.

This government is so unchristian in its values:
    -cheating
    -lying
    -lazy
    -nepotism
    -bribery
    -racist
    -greedy
    -wrath
    -pride
    -lust

    Shame on you.

One of the major government ministries where ethnic cleansing is advancing in full swing is the Ministry of Education, headed by Love Rat Aseri Radrodro.

This is a reliable anecdote on the deplorable state of the Education Ministry:
Any Ministry staff who even constructively opposes or disagrees with Aseri, he demotes them. Aseri doesn’t tolerate any criticisms, no matter how well intentioned it is. There are numerous staff who have been demoted for expressing views contrary to Aseri’s liking.
Aseri has been packing the Education Ministry with his kaivatas and cronies. Basically, payrollers have increased significantly, putting further strain on taxpayers funds.
Whenever he visits any schools, pressure piles on the school management to undertake traditional welcome ceremonies and prepare lunches. And it costs huge sum to prepare and undertake traditional welcome ceremonies.
Open Merit Recruitment System (OMRS), a good initiative of the former FijiFirst government, is in name only as far as appointments to top positions are concerned. Basically, the OMRS system has been thrown out of the window. For top positions, only recommendations work – which severely disadvantages Indo-Fijians because the iTaukeis only recommend iTaukeis to top positions. Many Indo-Fijians have resigned from the Ministry as ethnic cleansing runs rampant under Aseri’s watch as Minister.

Meanwhile, in another type of ethnic cleansing, minister choron singh tells his hindi subjects to “rethink their spending priorities and invest in temple security instead of prolonged kava sessions, as attacks on Hindu places of worship continue across Fiji.”

Should he not instead be asking his PAP masters to rein in their thugs?

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.
