The shocking recommendation by the Constitutional Review Commission that the secular state be removed from the supreme law is a direct attack on religious freedom and especially the major religions practiced by the minorities .
The CRC tries to pretend that religious freedom will be upheld. Yet if that were genuinely true, the secular state would be retained. Make no mistake, this is the prelude to the introduction of a Christian state in Fiji and is a threat to all non-Christians.
You just have to look at the official photograph of the Commission members posing with the President, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, to see they are not even trying to maintain the pretence of diversity. This is an iTaukei Commission and it is intent on imposing an iTaukei agenda on the entire country.
The common identity – everyone Fijian – is maintained for now but we can be sure that it too is also under threat.
I’m sorry to have to say this, Fiji, but it is time for the minorities to fight back. Our basic rights are being either eroded or questioned in a general effort to assert indigenous supremacy in the country. The tyranny of the majority.
If you are a non-indigenous citizen, you have two choices: Leave the country altogether or stay and take a stand. I am not talking about armed struggle or any use of violence but people of goodwill – in politics and the wider community – coming together in the interests of equality for all citizens
It is now clear that no-one is going to protect you and your rights to equal opportunity, to belong and your religious freedom. Not the RFMF, which has abandoned its constitutional role as the defender of the well-being of all Fijians, nor any of the nation’s other official institutions.
We have yet to see the full horror of these recommendations but what we have heard this afternoon is bad enough. The minorities – just under a third of the total population – have been betrayed and it is a very black day for Fiji.

Boohoo….a bunch of gay trannies can’t wave their pride flag and stake their rainbow claim in the sand!
All the better for it I say. Give the sods an inch and they’ll take a mile
Your minority suppression claim is a farce. There’s clear evidence the world over that the secular narrative is a “front loading ” load of BS used by left leaning drop kicks to unleash their sadistic ways upon the majority, crippling the very back bone of the country.
You are right. As the minority you should sit in the pecking order. Nobody is saying you cannot practice your religion, it’s just that you need to remember where you are , who is around you and why they are there.
Oh I remember alright. And you need to remember what happens when you trample on the rights of others by commandeering the supreme law and imposing your own values. It will be resisted.
Resistance in Fiji…good luck with that one…lol
That’s undoubtedly what the architects of this madness are hoping. It is a hell of a gamble when we know that religion excites strong feelings the world over and has been the catalyst for a great deal of conflict and bloodshed.
I sense you are instigating violence without reason. Here are some words of notable mention that you have recently used in your headings and articles “backlash” , “bloodshed”, “fight back”.
Why encourage this sort of rhetoric and tone when the process is merely at a draft review and recommendation stage? Nothing is set in stone yet you carry on like it’s the end of the world. I don’t see much concern being vented in any of your forums thus far, by anyone else besides yourself, so perhaps it’s best to sit tight and bite that tongue until more is revealed.
Would it be fair to say your blood thirsty opinions are driven by a need to create more opportunity to write more garbage? I hope not. I know a lot of journos rely on this cycle. Perhaps those in FJ GVT have taken a leaf out of the Trump book and realize that most of the damage is created by none other than the media its self. Frank and his monkeys were a bunch of invalids who needed censorship to mute any channel of communication about their crooked ways. I would hate to think what your page would have looked like during that era. I see you were MIA at the time!
A gvt cannot make drastic improvements in one term after a decade of the previous misery. Let this FJ GVT grow some legs first before you question whether it can run with it…
I am not ” instigating violence without reason” I specifically ruled out violence and armed struggle in favour of Hindus, Muslims and others joining fair-minded people of every faith in facing down this disastrous threat to national unity and the rights of the minorities.
May I point out, however, that we didn’t have a bombing campaign in 1987 because Siti – the original rapist of Fijian democracy – was warm and cuddly.
Enough disquiet has now been caused for the Prime Minister to be forced into a statement urging people to stay calm and distancing the government from the CRC’s recommendations. Surely you are not suggesting that little ‘ol me has caused this all on my own?
You come from the strand in Fijian society that thinks you can play with matches in the collective vuvale and stay out of danger. You can’t. Removing the secular state that has prevailed for a decade is a major provocation that I personally want to avoid even if you and your ilk don’t.
You have been warned not to play with fire. Continue to do so and consequences will follow, none of them good for the nation as a whole. And if you think that’s me being alarmist, you are deluded.
It would do you a lot of good if only you research what secularism actually means. Sexual orientation and secularism are not one and the same. The extreme SDAs who drink saltwater can be banned from doing the same while legalizing the arse-loving practices of Christian clergies.
Escape while you can.
The lovo is prepared.
I will be interested to observe whether they push this one draft in a yes/no referendum to uphold/reject the amended constitution, or whether a referendum will ask several questions to address a few key features of constitutional change.
The latter would have more integrity, so I guess they’ll go with the former.
What’s Neelesh Goundar doing? Following in the path of his master Biman betraying the minority.
History taught a lesson in 1999 and will do so again, if Rabuka actually holds the elections. But word on the street is that he’ll use findings of the CRC to delay elections. With the Matavasona Treaty in place with Australia, the trade partners will just look and see while democracy is being trampled.
