My apologies but preparations for the building work on our apartment have reached a critical stage and I will be unable to post for the time being. Please feel free to contribute anything of interest in the comments section below and I will endeavour to clear those comments when I can.

Rest assured the interruption is only temporary and as always, vinaka vakalevu to all my readers – supporters and opponents alike – for your interest.

A big year ahead. For a start, the political fallout from the Prime Minister’s cynical ploy in buying the support of the G9 with cabinet positions is intensifying rather than abating.

Yet another broken promise. Yet another lie.

And oh to be a fly on the wall when Christopher Pryde comes face-to-face with those party animals in the ODPP, Nancy Tikoisuva and John Rabuku, when he strides back into Gunu House next Monday.

Not to mention Pryde’s first encounter with the Chief Justice, Salesi Temo, who kept him waiting 21 months for justice, cut off his salary and called him a thief.

Never a dull moment in Fiji, eh?

Lots coming up after the break.

Sota Tale.

The front page of the Fiji Times has Jon Apted saying that the expansion of cabinet is in violation of the Coalition Agreement! How interesting! 🙂

Yes, but Jon Apted’s opinion that the Coalition Agreement is a “gentlemen’s agreement” rather than legally binding means that the Prime Minister breaching it isn’t going to alter anything.

Is SODELPA going to walk away? Hardly. Aseri Radrodro, “Blinky Bill” Gavoka and Ifereimi Vasu might as well enjoy their ministerial salaries while they still have them.

They will struggle to make the 5 per cent threshold come election day. And if they cause too much trouble, the PM has the numbers to cut them loose altogether.

Grubs in the meanwhile, I couldn’t see any article from you on Sugar Minister Charan Jeath Singh telling his 2 hotel guests to go to hell when they complained to him that they were robbed and staff not helping

It is referred to in the following article but no, I haven’t done a dedicated piece because it is claim and counter-claim and there are more substantial issues around. https://www.grubsheet.com.au/sitiveni-rabuka-buys-seven-political-whores-with-your-money/

GD. Of course there are more substantial news around. But for a minister to tell people to go to hell and refusing to help or even discuss an issue with them because they didn’t vote for him (and that he knows this cos he checked the polling station that area) is simply appalling! So essentially the drunken master was saying he will only help or listen to the public if they vote for him. Isn’t this is a serious issue which the elections office or even ficac should look into? BTW when approached for a response the drunk labasia refused to say anything that wasn’t sugar related.
What an embarrassment for his family and the coalition govt. But this is fiji and rabakus govt…no one gives a shit about standards, principles ethics or even manners. They know that most of the public will only grumble, and others have been brain washed thus they can continue to sow seeds of chaos and confusion without any shame or fear.

Completely agree with you. But it is not just one minister. There has been a breakdown of standards across the board. The final straw will be if Lynda Tabuya is retained as a member of the PAP. Then we will know that morality and proper conduct in public life has vanished.

But we have known that for some time. In fact some us knew and warned the public before the elections that it would happen.

Only the Labasias will vote for him if he contests the next election. The rest of the Indians in Fiji won’t vote for him.

You would find very slim pickings, Brett. I have a half-opened bottle of standard 12-year old Dimple from the local supermarket and that’s it. But thanks for your best wishes. 🙂

The blowtorch should be on Charan Jeath Singh. If this minister did actually say (as per the recording) “did you vote for me” to a member of the public, he should be pulled up for this. Ministers represent everyone, not just those who vote for them. No vote, no assistance is not the way in a civil society. AND how does the minister know whether the person voted for them or not? The voting process is founded on the principle of anonymity of who the person votes for! Instead of a ‘please explain’ from the PM to this minister, the PM defends this undefendable act by saying the minister was set up. Set up or not, it revealed the archaic mentality of the Sugar Minister on the self serving gravy train ride this govt has showed itself to be.

If it is so then the Fiji Indian community should put up a petition and ask for the PM to remove him.
Fiji Indians are already being marginalised and a case should be filed against Minister Charan at the Human Rights Council in Fiji.

Where are the feminist activists? Why aren’t they supporting the voices of the two victims? They were missing from the Virgin Air tragedy for the rape victim and now this. But they very fast to open their mouth and go blazing when it is about Tabuya and all things then become patriarchal.

Our Fiji Indian problem is the talk behind the back approach. Get up. Get a petition together and take it to Human Rights. Go see MP Ketan Lal. He is active.

    There is something amiss.

Fiji is going through turmoil and there is loss of confidence in PM. Similarly, Samoa is going through an upheaval in the upper levels of its Government. Let’s not forget Tonga’s PM resigned lately as he was not getting along with the monarchy.

Why are the issues so similar…are all these island countries filled with greedy leadership but not competent?

Are there outside influences to destabilise main players in the pacific triangle?

The fact is that the Pacific Island countries are a failure no matter what government comes in.

You miss a big difference which is obvious but many do not see it. There are no vulagis in Tonga and Samoa. In Fiji, all the issues here are the fault of the vulagis, even though the iTaukei own 95% of the land.
Just imagine what would happen if the iTaukei owned 110% of the land and there were no vulagis in Fiji. The problems in Tonga and Samoa would pale into insignificance.
But more to your point, what is it in the Pacific?
It is plain and obvious to me, but no one else seem to see what is in plain sight. It is the vulagi religion – Christianity. It is not suited to the population in the Pacific. They are just no good at pretending to have the faith. That is the outside influence you are talking about, but everyone is oblivious ——-except me that is.
Incompetence, fake religion, combined with limited mental capacity, tradition and culture and the list goes on. They are just not suited to the mordern world.
      There is your answer.

It explains why FFP rejected Choran Jeet Singh’s application for running in 2018 election. His offer of $10,000 donation was even rejected by the party.
In retaliation Choran terminated Snr. Khayum’s employment from his supermarket. What a low act, absolute scumbag.

Rabuka claims Choran was setup by the 2 girls. Police say they are still investigating. The snake is all wired up with God. He knows without invetigating anything.
I came to know in 1987 that he has direct communication. He must be a prophet. God told him in direct communication to torment and persecute Indo Fijians.
Butadroka was much better than him. He was a ethno nationalist, atleast he was not a liar.
I hope he lives on to see his own politicale demise. A time will come when even the dogs will away when they see the snake coming. He has decimated the counrty and the fijian people.

Tomorrow’s front page of the Fiji Times states there is more drama at DPP with a complaint being lodged against Chris Pryde with FICAC. Nancy Tikosuva’s response to Fiji Times was they’ll be issuing a Press Release on the issue. What is happening?

Apparently there are no antibiotics available for patients at CWM. How does this happen? Is anyone working in FJ?

I read via social media that CWM is falling apart. Judy Compain is trying to assist but I can understand why a government does not, cannot and should not take the help of an individual or an organisation ( the IWB of who Judy is the chairperson) however what is the Ministry of Health doing. On tax payer junkets to learn???

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
