( The following story has now been confirmed after doubts were raised about it by Radio Australia and the historian Brij Lal. Details below): The constitutional submission by members of the former governing party in Fiji - the SDL – calling for the country to be declared a Christian state is surely one of the longest political suicide notes in … [Read more...] about # THE RACIST BIGOTS OF THE SDL

He wrote to Grubsheet in response to our article this week quoting the former vice president, Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi, as saying … [Read more...] about # A KAI VALAGI BECOMES A FIJIAN

# 124 A GROSS BREACH OF TRUST

Posted on August 3, 2012 25 Comments

The jailing of the former prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, for corruption is a personal tragedy for the man who once held the highest elected office in the land. But it is also a powerful lesson for all Fijians that the days of looking after yourself and your kai vata (associates) at the expense of the wider community are over. The pursuit of … [Read more...] about # 124 A GROSS BREACH OF TRUST

# FIJI’S “VITAL” PACIFIC ROLE

Posted on August 3, 2012 3 Comments

For all the nonsense written in Australia about Fiji, there has always been an oasis of reason and common sense at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, the independent think tank set up by John Howard's government to provide fresh ideas on the country's defence and strategic policy options. ASPI has again fulfilled its brief with an article … [Read more...] about # FIJI’S “VITAL” PACIFIC ROLE

# RACE RELATIONS “NEVER BETTER”

Posted on August 2, 2012 19 Comments

The recent observation by the former vice president, Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi, that race relations in Fiji have never been better is an important acknowledgement of unquestionably the Bainimarama Government’s greatest achievement. This is its crusade to bridge the gulf between the races in Fiji and try to draw a line under the entrenched separateness … [Read more...] about # RACE RELATIONS “NEVER BETTER”

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
