The former governing party in Fiji - the deposed SDL (Soqosoqo Duavata Ni Lewenivanua) - has issued a news release taking Grubsheet to task for our coverage of its reported desire to introduce a Christian state in Fiji. The following - a statement by SDL President Solomone Naivalu - was distributed to news organisations by SDL spokesman Mesake … [Read more...] about # GRUBSHEET ATTACKED (UPDATED 16/8)

# THE ABC OF BIAS AGAINST FIJI

Posted on August 14, 2012 21 Comments

Radio Australia’s Pacific Beat has long displayed a jaundiced attitude towards Fiji but several recent reports fail to meet basic standards of journalistic practice, let alone the ABC’s stringent editorial policies. These state that the ABC “has a statutory duty to ensure that the gathering and presentation of news and information is impartial … [Read more...] about # THE ABC OF BIAS AGAINST FIJI

# OUR NEW LOOK

Posted on August 13, 2012 17 Comments

We're changing our name today to reflect something that's been happening for some time - the gradual evolution of Grubsheet from a general commentary site to one specialising in the Pacific and especially Fiji. In one sense, it was inevitable simply because that's where our own interests lie. But we were also keen to add more grunt to the efforts … [Read more...] about # OUR NEW LOOK

#130 DYING OF SHAME

Posted on August 10, 2012 45 Comments

It's taken five days for the main anti-regime news website, Coup Four and a Half, to report that the SDL - the party of the deposed government of Laisenia Qarase - is advocating that Fiji become a Christian state. News that a delegation led by the SDL president, Solomoni Naivalu, had made a submission to this effect to the Constitutional Commission … [Read more...] about #130 DYING OF SHAME

# THE “GRAND OLD DAME” REVIVED

Posted on August 10, 2012 49 Comments

2014 will be a landmark year in Fiji’s history and not just because of the scheduled return to democracy. After an expensive renovation, the once bright jewel in the crown of Suva – the celebrated Grand Pacific Hotel – will also be opening its doors for the first time in more than two decades. Because of what that will mean not only for tourism but … [Read more...] about # THE “GRAND OLD DAME” REVIVED

# SDL SUBMISSION – THE PROOF (UPDATE)

Posted on August 8, 2012 61 Comments

Radio Australia and the historian Brij Lal didn't believe it. Their doubts set off a firestorm in anti-regime circles, accusing Grubsheet and others of being wrong and even fabrication when we reported that the former governing party in Fiji, the SDL, had called for the introduction of a Christian state in a submission to the country's … [Read more...] about # SDL SUBMISSION – THE PROOF (UPDATE)

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
