#102 BOMBERS AT COUP 4.5

Posted on June 28, 2012 114 Comments

There seems to be no depths to which the depraved denizens of Coup 4.5  -the anti-government website – won’t plunge in their frustration at failing to derail Fiji’s march towards a fairer democracy. These so-called “journalists” are regular purveyors of racism and hate dressed up as respectable analysis (see our previous posting) but they’ve … [Read more...] about #102 BOMBERS AT COUP 4.5

# 101 WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION

Posted on June 28, 2012 23 Comments

“The guilty shall be convicted and the innocent shall be acquitted”, declared Fiji’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, in a recent address to the Fiji New Zealand Business Council. Stating the bleeding obvious – you’d imagine – except when doubts continue to be expressed about the independence and impartiality of the country’s … [Read more...] about # 101 WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION

#100 AN ANNIVERSARY OF SORTS

Posted on June 23, 2012 9 Comments

Grubsheet marks its 100th posting in a most unfortunate way - the announcement that we are banning one of our readers for overt racism and inciting violence. Wilson Tamanikaira, whose real name is Ilisoni Tamanikaira, is an avowed indigenous supremacist from Fiji who happens to live in the Australian city of Toowoomba. He is educated and articulate … [Read more...] about #100 AN ANNIVERSARY OF SORTS

#99 SMALL COUNTRY, BIG VOICE

Posted on June 22, 2012 50 Comments

The sight of Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Peter Thomson, chairing the General Assembly is yet another reminder that although Fiji is a relatively small country, it punches way above its weight. This week, Peter has been Acting President of the General Assembly, conducting the everyday business of the UN from the famous … [Read more...] about #99 SMALL COUNTRY, BIG VOICE

#98 TWO SAMOAS: ENLIGHTENED VS BELLIGERENT

Posted on June 19, 2012 52 Comments

Part of the reason the United States has been more sympathetic towards Fiji in recent times is due to the efforts of Eni Faleomavaega, the genial US Congressman from American Samoa. In stark contrast with the swaggering Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi – who leads the other Samoa to the west -  Congressman Faleomavaega has always grasped the importance … [Read more...] about #98 TWO SAMOAS: ENLIGHTENED VS BELLIGERENT

#97 THE ATTACK DOG BITES BACK (REVISED 19/6)

Posted on June 18, 2012 26 Comments

“Strive to the very end”, says the family motto on the coat of arms that Mick Beddoes displays  proudly on his website. All of which means that dogged persistence comes naturally to Mick Malcolm Millis Beddoes, the businessman and politician who heads the United Peoples Party in Fiji. Grubsheet has labeled Beddoes the attack dog of the Three Amigos … [Read more...] about #97 THE ATTACK DOG BITES BACK (REVISED 19/6)

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.

(Feejee is the original name for Fiji - a derivative of the indigenous Viti and the Tongan Fisi - and was widely used until the late 19th century)
