"Significant progress but could do a lot better". That's the overall conclusion of one of Fiji's most prominent social activists - Father Kevin Barr - in a review of the country's performance over the past two years. Father Barr is an Australian-born Roman Catholic priest and the Chair of Fiji's Wages Council, which determines minimum standards of … [Read more...] about #114 STATE OF THE NATION

#113 A REAL-LIFE SPY THRILLER

Posted on July 20, 2012 13 Comments

“New Zealand Acts To Protect Fijian PM”. Excuse me, but are my eyes deceiving me? Well, no, they’re not and haven’t times changed. It wasn’t so long ago when such a headline would have been inconceivable. Yet protecting Frank Bainimarama was precisely the motive when agents of the NZ Security and Intelligence Service (SIS) raided addresses in … [Read more...] about #113 A REAL-LIFE SPY THRILLER

First we headlined the "Racists at Coup 4.5". Then the "Bombers at Coup 4.5". Now we have the "Assassins at Coup 4.5". Yes, folks, incredibly the principal anti-regime blog is now advocating the killing of what one contributor describes as “the Muslim terrorist” - Fiji’s Attorney General and second most senior figure in the government, Aiyaz Sayed … [Read more...] about # ASSASSINS AT COUP 4.5

Posted on July 16, 2012 2 Comments

Fiji's contribution to United Nations peacekeeping efforts has risen by almost 30 per cent in the past year alone, as the world body defies attempts by Australia and New Zealand to have Fijian troops excluded because of the 2006 coup. Figures obtained by the NZ investigative reporter, Selwyn Manning, for his intelligence company, 36th Parallel … [Read more...] about #110 UN BACKS FIJIAN PEACEKEEPERS

Vijendra Kumar - a long-serving editor of the Fiji Times who left the country 21 years ago disillusioned with its direction - has surged back into the public eye with an optimistic piece on Fiji’s future. It's noteworthy that the article doesn’t appear in the Times – Fiji’s oldest newspaper -  but in its rival, the Fiji Sun, where Grubsheet is also … [Read more...] about # A JOURNALISTIC LEGEND RETURNS

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
