# O SORRY, EH? BUT WE’RE STILL TAKING THE MONEY

Posted on June 4, 2024 21 Comments

The utter cynicism and insincerity of this Prime Minister and this government screams from the contents of extraordinary statements made by Sitiveni Rabuka this afternoon in which he apologises to the Fijian people for "not having handled the MP's pay rise issue well" but also insists that his Finance Minister, Biman Prasad, just has to find the … [Read more...] about # O SORRY, EH? # IS THERE NO LIMIT TO THE HUMILIATION THIS MAN WILL TAKE? (UPDATED)

Posted on June 4, 2024 21 Comments

Biman Prasad makes much every Girmit Day of the humiliation the British and Australian colonials visited on the first indentured labourers. But the "kuli", "yes, sahib" mentality evidently lingers on as the NFP leader happily munches the shit sandwiches continually dished out to him by Sitiveni Rabuka, Lynda Tabuya and his other Coalition … [Read more...] about # IS THERE NO LIMIT TO THE HUMILIATION THIS MAN WILL TAKE? # THE TRAGEDY OF A FIT BODY AND AN UNSOUND MIND

Posted on June 4, 2024 11 Comments

Sitiveni Rabuka is the opposite of Joe Biden - seemingly fit in body yet losing his marbles one by one as the months progress, as opposed to the physically frail US President who appears, from this distance at least, to remain sound in mind. Today's Fiji Times not surprisingly makes a virtue of the Prime Minister competing in the Oceania Games … [Read more...] about # THE TRAGEDY OF A FIT BODY AND AN UNSOUND MIND

# FRANK BAINIMARAMA “CANNOT BE LEADER OF FIJIFIRST”

Posted on June 3, 2024 16 Comments

We now know why there is a standoff between FijiFirst and the Speaker of the Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, and the Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa, over the status of Frank Bainimarama as party leader and why the 17 MPs ousted from the party for supporting the emoluments increases are stubbornly insisting they are still FijiFirst MPs. … [Read more...] about # FRANK BAINIMARAMA “CANNOT BE LEADER OF FIJIFIRST”

# THE FIJIFIRST LEADERSHIP FIGHTS BACK. IN A WEAKENED STATE.

Posted on June 3, 2024 9 Comments

FijiFirst issues a statement amid the standoff between its leadership and the Speaker of the Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, over the status of the 17 of its MPs who have been expelled from the party and the standoff with the Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa, over the position of Frank Bainimarama as leader. The statement suggests … [Read more...] about # THE FIJIFIRST LEADERSHIP FIGHTS BACK. IN A WEAKENED STATE.

# ANOTHER WEEK. MORE POLITICAL TURMOIL

Posted on June 3, 2024 13 Comments

So this week is set to be dominated by a burning question. Is the sacking of the 17 FijiFirst MPs illegal because Frank Bainimarama can't be the leader of FijiFirst when the electoral laws specify that no-one who is convicted and jailed for the length of time he has can preside over a political party? That's the position of the 17 FijiFirst … [Read more...] about # ANOTHER WEEK. MORE POLITICAL TURMOIL

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
