Posted on May 24, 2024 26 Comments

The public outcry over the proposed salary and allowance increases for the nation’s MPs is intense - uniting a coalition of the National Federation Party, the Labour Party, the Unity Party, the Fiji Council of Social Services and Dialogue Fiji in a chorus of angry condemnation. Yet in terms of the country’s economic stability, there’s one voice … [Read more...] about # “WHAT ABOUT ME?” THE NATION’S MPs TRIGGER A GADARENE* RUSH

# THE QUEEN OF TARTS AND OTHER MPs WITH THEIR SNOUTS IN THE TROUGH

Posted on May 23, 2024 24 Comments

Read the accompanying articles, Fiji, and weep that our elected representatives are so hell-bent on destroying our economic future - the Minister for Bonking and Weed, Lynda Tabuya, her "brutal" sex toy boy and resident Minister for Bashing and Torture, Aseri Radrodro, plus the other members of the "Special Committee on Emoluments" dishing out more … [Read more...] about # THE QUEEN OF TARTS AND OTHER MPs WITH THEIR SNOUTS IN THE TROUGH

# A SIGN OF UTTER DESPERATION

Posted on May 22, 2024 13 Comments

It has now been more than 13 months since Siromi Turaga and the man he and Sitiveni Rabuka handpicked to be Acting Chief Justice, Salesi Temo, suspended the DPP, Christopher Pryde, for alleged misbehaviour. And still they have failed to fulfil their constitutional duty to hold a judicial tribunal hearing into the allegation that Christopher Pryde … [Read more...] about # A SIGN OF UTTER DESPERATION

Disturbingly similar. The skies above Nouméa. And the skies above Gaza. There goes the neighbourhood. A photo essay in the Guardian Australia of the unfolding tragedy in New Caledonia. Just 1300 kilometres from Fiji. … [Read more...] about # NO LONGER PACIFIC

# PAL AHLUWALIA SAID “NO” TO A 30 PER CENT PAY RISE AT USP. THEN THE WHITE-ANTING BEGAN

Posted on May 21, 2024 19 Comments

Universities the world over are hotbeds of competing egos, rivalries and jostling for positions. Academics by nature are smart, strategic and have a high opinion of themselves. And the vice chancellors who manage them are like trapeze artists on a high wire, constantly performing a delicate balancing act. They need to keep their staff happy as well … [Read more...] about # PAL AHLUWALIA SAID “NO” TO A 30 PER CENT PAY RISE AT USP. THEN THE WHITE-ANTING BEGAN

About Grubsheet

Graham Davis
Grubsheet Feejee is the blogsite of Graham Davis, an award-winning journalist turned communications consultant who was the Fijian Government’s principal communications advisor for six years from 2012 to 2018 and continued to work on Fiji’s global climate and oceans campaign up until the end of the decade.

Fiji-born to missionary parents and a dual Fijian-Australian national, Graham spent four decades in the international media before returning to Fiji to work full time in 2012. He reported from many parts of the world for the BBC, ABC, SBS, the Nine and Seven Networks and Sky News and wrote for a range of newspapers and magazines in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Graham launched Grubsheet Feejee in 2011 and suspended writing for it after the Fijian election of 2014, by which time he was working at the heart of government. But the website continued to attract hits as a background resource on events in Fiji in the transition back to parliamentary democracy.

Grubsheet relaunches in 2020 at one of the most critical times in Fijian history, with the nation reeling from the Covid-19 crisis and Frank Bainimarama’s government shouldering the twin burdens of incumbency and economic disintegration.

Grubsheet’s sole agenda is the national interest; the strengthening of Fiji’s ties with the democracies; upholding equal rights for all citizens; government that is genuinely transparent and free of corruption and nepotism; and upholding Fiji’s service to the world in climate and oceans advocacy and UN Peacekeeping.
